The point is, Bellicheck is greeted as one of the greatest coaches in the NFL. Yet no one wants to look at why. He had one winning record coaching in Cleveland. He had a sub 500 record overall.

He goes to New England, they draft Brady and now he's one of the greatest coaches? Does no one see the coincidence here lol

Rex will never rise to the "greatest" level because he does not have a franchise QB. It's sad too, because what Rex did in 2009 and 2010 was remarkable with Mark Sanchez running the show. The most remarkable year might have been last year when we finished 8-8 with one of the worst teams in the league.

All this will be overlooked because he doesn't have a Brady on his sideline.

It's very likely that Tom Brady isn't Tom Brady if he lands on the Jets (or a number of other teams) instead of the Patriots. That's what you aren't getting. It takes a village to raise a QB. Brady and Belichick spend time going over game film together. We've seen video of the sessions.

    Keep on homerin on.

    Now you're on speculation.

You're speculating that Brady wouldn't have become Brady had he been away from Bellicheck. You can play that game all you'd like, but that's a game you will never win.

And what if Brady was drafted by the Jets and became what he is today? How do you know the counter of that argument isn't true either?

Maybe he wouldnt have as good a career. Probably likely he wouldnt. But lets not act like Tom Brady would be a scrub without the tutelage of BB. He'd still be starting somewhere in the league and he would be one of the all time greats.

you're completely missing the point. that's likely because you're to blinded by your own homerism.

    Of course he would be.

A coach has a huge part in developing a player but Brady is talented as hell. You can't take away talent from a guy and Brady is fuckin talented.

Sanchez: the master of the quick slant interception AND the almost impossible to achieve screen pass interception. Vick is just inaccurate. He misses easy passes just like Mark did. Difference between them? Vick uses the lower half of his body---for football, I mean.

I agree that Belichick gets too much credit in the realm of all time HOF coaches and a lot of credit should go to Brady but at the same time he has done a lot for Brady's career. I hate the man but I gotta give credit where it's due. Here are just some examples.

For starters, he recognized Brady's talent. I'm not talking about the draft which is a crapshoot but I am talking about once he was there. He recognized Brady had a lot of talent and as a result kept 3 QBs on the active roster his rookie year instead of trying to stash him on the practice squad because he didn't want to lose him. I don't think Rex Ryan does that in the same scenario.. (he'd keep an extra LB for special teams)

Second, he had the balls to even stick with him. I don't see a Rex Ryan who is loyal to a fault sticking with a 6th round pick over his long time franchise cornerstone once that guy got healthy enough to play. Idk if you remember but Brady was moderately successful initially - when he hit the playoffs his first year he was still a question mark. Either way a coach could've thought it was flukey.

Next - He had the foresight to recognize Brady's strengths and built an offense around that... i.e. getting the ball out quickly and throwing to the middle of the field. That's why for just 2 examples he grabbed a Wes Welker for him and designed a two TE quick-strike offense in later years.

They've gone through all kinds of OCs over the years and you are insane if you think he hasn't had his hands in that offense and isn't deserving of credit on offense.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the argument that Ryan is partly to blame for not having a better Qb. I know it has been raised before here. Maybe you missed it, but the point is that the lack of franchise qb thing is not a complete free pass for Ryan.

Ftr I know Palmer has his issues, but he's a better Qb than Smith. Stanton is a better qb than Smith. And as for Kelly, Foles certainly is.

But having said that, I do believe Ryan is part of the problem with the Qb situation during his reign.

Of course when I first came to this site the vast majority of Jets fans here believed that Brady's success was based on the system he was playing and not on any special talent. And that any decent QB could come in and run it and be successful.

So did a lot of Pats fans during the offseason between '08 and '09, every fanbase has a vocal doofus contingent.

As far as Belichick not having a lot to do with the success on Offense like Fartco is saying, Beli spent a few summers with Urban Myer learning the intricacies of the spread they had so much success with, and during those years the Pats went from a pretty standard Erhardt-Perkins philosophy to a quick attack spread that attacked the middle of the field more than outside the hashes.

I must say, it's just hilarious to read these posts from the negative ninnies that harp on how much better the Jets would be replacing Idzig and Ryan after only 2 games into the season.

If this were 1968 after 5 games , theses same idiots would be calling for Weeb's head on a platter in front of Macy's window. Do you know what happened the remaining 9 games?

Jets will beat the Bears this weekend and will be 2-1 ......and the same ninnies will be crying even more about nothing.

And if they don't beat the Bears....?

What you seeing out of Rex is what it is. Either you can live with him or you can't. Just don't sell this bullshit line that Rex Ryan is the ONLY PERSON ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH THAT CAN COACH THE NEW YORK JETS. Nothing could be further from the truth. Fact is, Rex has been here 6 years and we're mediocre. You can sell potential until a Mars landing takes place but in the meantime, you got nothing but conjecture and wishful thinking. Rex is only what? 4 games over .500 over the entire span of his tenure here? 43-39 gives him a life time pass? Based on the historic failures of prior Jet HC's, Ryan should be in Canton. I guess it all depends on how low you wanna set the standard. As long as Rex isn't Joe Walton or Rich Kotite, we can all sleep comfortably knowing that the Jets will always be better than 1-15 not never good enough to really challenge for the Lombardi. Good thing we don't care about little things like championships anymore. Now before you trot out the rotted old argument: "If not Rex, then who?", I ask does it matter? We haven't won a fckn thing in almost 50 years so it couldn't possibly be the legacy we're concerned with here.

Rex can stay as long as Woody wants him. That will be predicated on how Rex keeps this team in the headlines and asses in the seats on gameday. Nothing else matters to Woody and at the end of the day, Woody has the final call on this. Not you, not me, not Idzik, not anyone else. I've learned to accept it. Makes being a Jet Fan a lot easier than being a Mets fan.

Somebody name me a HC considered to be an all time great that doesn't have a HOF caliber QB tied to his success . If Rex goes 8-8 year after year with the obvious tools in place to win, then yeah, he has to go. No question. But I can't ignore the fact that he has watched his his team go through a rebuilding phase and has somehow managed to keep us afloat for the most part. No he is not the only qualified guy in football to run the jets, but I believe he has done more with less then alot of guys out there. I believe if rex has the tools to win, he will. When I look at the roster he doesn't have the tools yet to be at his most effective.
