We aren't we using CJ like Eagles are using Sproles?

Honestly if you had asked me if I would have traded a 5th for Sproles this offseason, I don't know if I would have said yes. He only had 220 rushing yards in 2013, and can't handle a heavy load carrying the ball. He had 604 yards receiving, but we all knew that was a Drew Brees/Sean Payton offense, and compared to his previous years it sure as hell looked like he was slowing down a lot. He had 4 total TD's that year. He is on pace to destroy those numbers, and even Chip Kelly can't have known that was going to happen. A 5th rounder for a 31 year old RB with a lot of miles... Even though a lot were receiving miles all conventional wisdom says he's got very little time left.

He's 2 games into the season, so I'd be willing to bet he can't hold up this year. If he does, he's the exception to the rule but lets not go around acting like everyone in the world but Idzik knew Sproles would be really good this year.

It does kind of suck that our one "explosive" player on offense, Johnson, used up all his explosion before he got here.

At this rate Sproles is on pace for 1,328 receiving yards, and 776 rushing yards, for a combined 2,104 total yards and 16 TD's. Lets all stop the bitching, because who really expects this pace to last? If it does, my mind is blown, and if you say yours isn't you're a liar.

    824 total yards, 4 TD

    1,422 total yards, 10 TD

These are two players' 2013 stats. Guess which player the Jets signed, and didn't give up a draft pick. We are two weeks into the season, so people need to quit bitching.

And now one of them is on the Jets and the other is on the Eagles so switch their stats for this year

Keep in mind the Eagles have played the Colts and the Jaguars, two dreadful defenses. The Jets have played the Raiders and the Packers. The Packers defense seems to be developing into a pretty good D, and when we played the Raiders we put up over 400 yards of offense. How quickly people forget how good our offense looked for 6 out of 8 quarters of football. So a good defense made very good adjustments at halftime, and all of a sudden the Jets offense sucks again.

Wasn't aware there was bitching going on. I actually would not have given up a 5th round pick for Sproles. Only because I think Sproles is a luxury piece you add to what you believe to be a championship contending roster. We're not that; so I would rather keep the pick. I also don't think that he will keep up the pace his on. So no need to jump in front of Idzik; no one is shooting.

I find it better to be negative and grumpy because positivity jinxes us and doesn't go well with whiskey

Didn't know total yards was metric for explosiveness. Learn something new everyday on TGG.

I'm not specifically defending Idzik, I'm just tired of hearing fans bitch about this and that, or whatever is the first thing that comes to mind. I don't expect fans to be blindly optimistic but the self pity Jets fans constantly throw around is pathetic. Some people are mostly joking, but the whining of so many has ruined the sentiment entirely for me.

No but 5.2 yards per carry and 91 total yards and a TD is a pretty good indicator.

Dunno, someone mentions they would trade a 5th rounder for Sproles then I make reference to CJ's diminished explosiveness, then you come in guns a blazed about total yards and guess who Idzik signed. Sure came across as though you were another member of your majesty's secret service.

CJ hasn't avg'd more than 4.5 ypc in 5 years dude. Last year he was under 4. If he was avg'ing 5.2 ypc, he'd still be in TEN.

Put the stat book aside for a second. From what you've seen of CJ in 2 games, do you still think he is explosive?

Yes, he passes my eye test as much as one can 2 weeks in. He wasn't particularly well utilized against Green Bay, and I would have liked to see a screen pass to him away from Clay Matthews, or a sweep run. We'll have to talk again late in the season at which point I'm fine with eating my words should that be necessary. I don't think CJ will be a pro bowler, but I think he'll bust out a few big plays this year.

We have different eye tests and different definitions of explosiveness. CJ is still fast so of course he will get his fair share of chunk yards on highly executed plays. However, the suddenness to get those on his own, I don't see. He's not breaking arm tackles, I don't see the quickness in the hole or traffic and the same change of direction. Hence, my claim. At this point, I see more explosion from Ivory than I do CJ, even though we all know CJ is faster.

I didn't think hate or like the CJ acquisition; thought it was a lateral move to be honest. We were the 6th best rushing team in the league last year; not sure how much better CJ makes us. I know CJ brings the catching passes out of the backfield element, but we had that in Powell. CJ is just taking those touches away from Powell. What we gained in speed, I feel we lost in elusiveness and toughness. At this juncture in their careers, Powell is a lot harder to get on the turf than CJ. Anyway, that's just my view.
