Stokes Looks like you know about Vermont. My wife is eating my head saying I didn't take her to Vermont since we moved to USA 10 years ago. Please advise a place to say to go there in October during foliage time. We will take our boys with us preference is a place with Indoor Pool. Thanks as always.
Im not sure about a hotel but the Berkshires in MA are beautiful that time of year also maybe Bennington VT
Brooks I was kidding about that. Google maps Beecher Falls. Vermont is a BIG state to ask where Everclear is sold. Having said that, and because I can't stand the thought of your wife eating your head, my utmost recommendation would be the Equinox Hotel in Manchester which is very very nice but a bit pricey. Manchester is a great town to walk around in, good restaurants and the wife will love the shopping. I've stayed at B&Bs there too but those are more couples places, not kid friendly and no pools. I'm sure there are probably major hotel chains nearby that would be great for kids, pools, breakfast, the whole deal but I've not stayed in any. Usually when we ski up there we rent a house. Burlington is beautiful but it is WAY the fuck up there. If you're just going for foliage and a weekend trip, that's a hellavu drive. Took us 6 hours one time in some bad weather. _
Edit: Rambo said Bennington not Burlington. Another very good suggestion and even closer than Manchester. Same deal, nice little town, good eats, B&Bs but there has to be some of the larger hotels near there too. We have family that has a house outside Bennington and we've stayed there when we ski Stratton. I think my father-in-law still owns a piece of property there but it's almost unbuildable. Very nice area. _
Stokes Thanks. I will check both Manchester and Bennington and pick a chain hotel. Like you say B&B's are for couples mostly. Appreciate it as always.
Cool monument in Bennington. Looks like the Washington Monument and from the top you can almost see Ireland. I'd imagine it'd be a spectacular view if the foliage is in full bloom. One great thing about Vermont is the breakfast. It seems everyone does it well. I guess they want to show off their maple syrup which is outstanding. Bring home a bottle. _
I would say screw both Vermont and NH and go to Maine instead. You can collect sea shells by the sea shore and eat lots of cheap Lobster and other great seafood. If you're a Foodie, go to Maine. The leaves turn lovely colors there too.
Thanks Grandpa. But Maine is a bit far and not really a weekend spot. But probably during spring break, we might listen to you and head there. I am now back in front of my computer and I will check places Stokes suggested.
Ok settle down. Brooks is looking to (i) get his wife to stop eating his head and (ii) look at fall foliage. He could look at fall foliage in fucking Westchester ,Bergen, Orange or Putnam Counties. He wants to leave the tri-state area, or rather his wife does. But not TOO far from the tri-state. The closest state for that is VERMONT. Further away is New Hampshire (add another 3 hours) and Maine (add 5 hours). Hey Brooks, you should drive 11 hours to Nova Scotia to see the leaves. So much prettier than anything a billion times closer. Geez guys we're trying to help out one of the good guys. A little sense here. _
Doesn't Brooks want to know where he can find Everclear in Vermont? Fine Americans have been partaking in pure gain alcohol for centuries. This could be an enlightening crusade.
byz The one who wants to see Everclear is another poster. I am just hijacking his thread to get some tips on foliage as my wife is seriously eating my head for not taking her to Vermont for foliage. And Stokes is helping me big time. Today I told her about Bennington and she was very happy. We will drive up on October 11th- Saturday morning and come back on October 12th-Sunday. On our way to New Jersey she will drop me at Metlife stadium so I can watch Jets against the Broncos. All good. 186 miles. 3 hours drive to up north. Stokes Seriously. Thank you. This is the first time I will write it here but I have to. You are my hero. Your suggestions put ease on my mind during my wife's illness. You are truly a great guy and I hope one day I can pay my debt to you. Drinks on me anytime you want.
