Inspired by Sproles' performance last night... Anyone else feel like some designed plays for Saunders could do us well? Get him the ball at the line of scrimmage and let him work. I understand we have CJ but it would be a different look out there. When Johnson is in the game the defense knows it's a possibility. If you throw Saunders out there with Decker and Kerley and a tight end plus CJ in the backfield, teams won't know where to look. Hell even go empty backfield and bring in your best blocking WR with Cumberland at TE. I don't think it's an "omg how are we not doing this" situation, but you drafted the kid knowing he's a speedster who is tough as nails. Seems like you should lob (not literally) a few his way and let him do what it is that impressed you in the first place.
Amaro has been on the field a handful of times. Saunders, I keep expecting to see him get chance. Not sure why it isn't happening. It's not like we are deep at WR. I'm guessing the practice reps are really being designed to give Geno chemistry with the same exclusive set of receivers. Could be this week that we see Saunders, since Decker is nursing his hammy.
I don't understand why Saunders isn't getting. He was drafted in the 4th round. It's not like he's just on the team to return punts, they expect him to make an impact at some point. Only thing I can think of is that they don't feel he is ready to have a role in the offense yet due to missing time in the Pre season. But if Decker's injury is going to keep him out for any length of time I say get him out there.
I don't see any reason why we can't use him the same way the Eagles used Sproles. He's obviously not Sproles, but their roles can be similar. Line him up in the slot, motion him to the strong side of the field, snap and toss it his way, let him work.
We need the rookies to get better roles on this team. Put them in position to make plays. First 2 weeks, haven't gotten Amaro any major looks or Saunders. I don't get it.
Soon I suspect. Not using Amaro pisses me off more though. Cumberland has 5 catches in 2 games getting 80% of the snaps while Amaro already has 3 on a small handful. You go and draft a beast TE in the 2nd round and then sit him in favor of nothing. It's a shame.
saunders missed quite a bit of time ... hopefully he gets an opportunity soon salas has been a disappointment, outside of special teams
Agreed. I understand the threads about Saunders but Amaro is a matchup nightmare down the seam regardless of his speed. He'll certainly box out any safety for the ball and out leap most linebackers. I'd like to see more two tightends sets. We can still run these in shotgun with a pistol look to respect the run and the pass. You have a 6'6" tightend with sure hands and a 6'4" former wide receiver at the other one with speed. The size and big bodies on this team is what puzzled me against the Raiders in the red zone with the trick play bullshit. I don't see why Saunders isn't given a look either. He seems like a virtual Jeremy Kerley clone and I would assume Saunders is the #4 coming into this week if Decker is out. We have David Nelson whose a big body to block on those bullshit flat screens and two little quick receivers to run them. Get em going.
Saunders has some good speed to get down the field, think Desean Jackson. Kerley utilizes his quickness better - they could co-exist on the field easily. Right now, Saunders could be our best deep threat and he plays physical. Him and Salas at the very least should be splitting reps. I won't even get into Amaro because him not getting reps in the passing game pisses me off.
Yeah, I don't understand why he can't see some reps in place of Greg Salas who has done nothing for us. We have more invested in Saunders anyway. It's time to see him IMO.
Greg Salas is this years mr August. That's why I never get excited over these kinds of players. Sudfeld too. We need another receiving option besides Decker and Kerley. We might as well give Saunders a look.
I'd like to think that Amaro is that legitimate receiving option after the 2 that you mentioned. It's somewhat puzzling that he was drafted for just such a reason and his reps, at least to this point, are low. Hopefully he gets the opportunity to show what an asset he can be receiving...
The thing is that Saunders is almost exclusively a slot guy at his size, and do we really want to take Kerley off the field to play Saunders? I suppose we could try a couple 4 WR sets, or perhaps put Kerley outside every couple plays.
Kerley can and has had success playing outside. I don't think there is anything to lose by playing decker, kerley, saunders. Its not like nelson is doing alot. It might give us a bit more big play potential than we have now
I would love to be able to use Saunders in some if the plays the eagles ran last night. Send a a wr in motion to the 2 wr side and let them get out and block. Or like how harvin is used in jet sweep and gets the handoff
Amaro struggling early doesnt shock me..look at Ebron and ASJ. They're both struggling too. Saunders would get immediate work if Kerley went down. Until then I dont expect to see much of him on offense. From what I saw of him at OU he was never used in a Sproles-like way. Might wanna sign LaMichael James if we want that type of player.
