From what I saw, it was close to 50/50 in terms of him being LCB in zone and moving around the field following Jennings in man. I didn't realize just how much the Vikings put Jennings into the slot. A LOT. I had to back up and realize many times that Revis was inside the hashes.
I remember Revis following Welker in the slot back in the day too... he really can line up anywhere. Most outside CBs don't like playing the slot but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. I think we'll know how BB really plans to use him when they play a team with an elite receiver, and when Browner is eligible to play. Just hoping they don't waste his talents by sticking him on one side and keeping him there.
I was surprised to see him playing LCB the entire game vs the Phins. This game he was used more like Rex used him years ago. Fuck.
I'm looking for it just to see if Revis comes out of it healthy. I would never root for the guy to get injured, but Belifaggot tested his hammy years ago and got an injury out of it. Putting him on Megatard might yield the same results.
Might be my bias towards Revis kicking in, but I never ever remember him getting fooled this badly that he got spun around
I think him playing LCB in Miami was more about not really thinking that one of Wallace or Hartline is better than the other (and a bad game plan, the defensive aligned drastically different in week 2 and the results were clearly evident, against what is, in my opinion, a similarly talented level of offense). Clearly, Greg Jennings is the best receiver in Minnesota at the moment, obviously Patterson is a more explosive player, but all of his production comes from out of the backfield and the kicking game, not down field plays.
I don't agree he's the most overrated player, he's still a damn good corner, obviously top 5, but he's not the best corner let alone best defensive player that some (not most) would call him. If it was a unanimous vote on him being the best I would agree he's well overrated, but there is a fairly large debate going on.
Yeah, that looks silly in isolation, but you can't see what they were calling there. He had help on the inside and may have had primary responsibility for the outside.
Yeah not in coverage but i remember Reggie Bush breaking his ankles and tearing his ACL without contact. Yikes.
I'd rank him top 10. He's strictly zone and was able to rack up a lot of stats last year because he had the best safeties behind him and a very good pass rush to force errant passes. He's only considered top 5 because he tells anyone that listens that he is the best in the game and cites his padded stats to prove it.
Oh, of that there can be no doubt. I just think that's a suspiciously closely cropped vid, almost as if to make him look foolish. Look at where his face is, I'd almost bet someone was coming in motion towards his side of the field. He takes his eyes off his man for a split second, then realizes he needs to take the long way around to get back to him. We need to see the entire formation.
Revis. He plays the one no matter where he lines up. Lcb, rcb, slot...wherever..doesn't matter. I believe he thrives in any defense on the planet. Sherman just doesn't move around enough for me to call him the best, he's never left in iso with anyone and has the the best security blanket in the league. Nobody takes chances on Sherman not because his ability alone, but because the defense scheme they play just eliminates anything over the top..the ball will stay in front of the safeties no matter what...if they have to give you a 20 yard cushions to make that zone work while sheman presses all day so be it. Revis never had the luxury of above average safties backing him up, covering up would be mistakes. I also believe while Sheman has better hands (if you throw a duck in his zone, its a wrap, its gone), Revis plays the ball 100 times better in the air. Revis wins for me.
Btw Rivers torched Sherman last week. When's the last time a collection of dudes beat Revis 5+ times in a single game? I can't even remember. If Patrick Peterson played in seattle he would look like the best corner in the history of football...
He torched him? Really? Sherman gave up 54 yards and no TDs. If you are considering those stats "torching" it shows you how high of standards people hold Sherman at. Just because two TDs were thrown to his side, doesn't mean it was him. He was not involved whatsoever on those plays. 54 yards and no touchdowns. That's what he let up
Torched may be a bit harsh, and I do, despite this critique, value sherman as a top 3 corner in todays game. He's still Imo not in a true shutdown, the term in itself is thrown around too loosly. 09-12 revis is the only cb that deserved that title, and before him, Primetime. That said I recall a cross and a slant, one where Sherman gets turned completely around and is effectively not even in the play anymore. Had it not been been for the saftey sliding down on both occasions Allens gone for considerably more yardage and 55 easily becomes a lot more then that. 2 double moves as well. 1 where allen was open that they never connected on, the second where sherm recovered nicely after being beat and ended in a sack while rivers stared allen down. I can't recall a time where I have ever seen Revis spinning in circles while playing strait up man. randy moss is the only person I have ever seen legit beat revis... and that was a crazy 1 hander with no safety at all in the entire play. Had moss not been 6'4 with arms like a vulture he doesn't make that catch.
Sherman let up 54 yards against San Diego. That's more than he let up in one game the entire year last year and the playoffs. He didn't have one game allowing more than 50 yards last year, including the post season. That's a shut down corner lol if it's not, then Idk what is.
