X-wing @aliciousness is also a player to keep your eye out for, along with Harvard University, and The Player Formerly Known as Mousecop (though he might drop in the draft somewhat due to being schizophrenic and hearing voices in his head.) But you're right, Fudge is the kind of back you can really build an offense around. I never imagined that a 350 lbs back could be that fast, agile, and evasive.
Top 5 I like for the Jets so far 1. Shilique Calhoun (DE, Mich St) - will most likely be a OLB in the NFL. 2. Devin Funchess (WR, Michigan) - 6'5 230 reliable hands. Hybrid WR/TE. 3. Cedric Ogbuehi (OT, Texas A&M) - very solid overall linemen. 4. Ifo Ekpre Olumu (CB, Oregon) - could have come out last year, he's ready. 5. Sammie Coates (WR, Auburn) - another reliable receiver.
Markus Golden 6-3/260 @ Missouri is off to an expected fast start. They talk about him like an Aldon Smith OLB clone.
Is Randy Gregory coming out this year? He has the talent to be whatever kind of pass rusher we ask him to be. He also splits between having his hand in the dirt and standing up, we could instantly upgrade our pass rush with him or Calhoun.
Calhoun is a 43 end, putting him at OLB is probably worse then having Coples there (which also limits him). I see that thought about Calhoun all over, but he's a marginal pass rusher with limited pass rush moves. He's strong and can play that right end spot pretty well, Shaun Ellis style; but you ask him to straight rush and you're left with two OLBs who are no better than average at getting to the QB. I love Funchess, Olomu, and Coates though. They're all studs.
I'm just ripping off the OLB prospects. Leonard Floyd OLB @ Univ. of Georgia. He's a sophomore but spent a year at Hargrove Military Academy, - so he's 3yr eligible in case he wants to go.
What do you guys think about this kid Sean Mannion from Oregon State? I don't think he's all that mobile, but he looks pretty cerebral with very good arms. I don't think he'd be a 1st rounder, but do you think Jets have a shot at this kid in round 2 or 3? [That is, if Jets go 8-8 again with Geno shitting the bed all over. Just in case.]
Watching MD-WVU. Diggs has been impressive, but so have the receivers for west virginia. I would like to see us pick up Kevin White, if we miss out on the top receivers in the draft this year. He played well against Alabama as well.
Mannion has a good arm, but it's hard to prioritize a guy who gives you so little athletically as a priority without great arm talent. I haven't seen him this year yet, but based on last year he still had work to do on consistent mechanics which affected his accuracy. I thought White played out of his mind vs Bama, a local kid too from a Plainfield, NJ. I think he'll end up with a much better outlook by season's end than where he's listed now.
What kind of guards are we looking at in the coming draft? Colon needs to be replaced and I'm not really sold on Winters.
Receivers Kevin White and Amari Cooper are the best guys I've seen so far. Really like Diggs from Maryland also.
Walter Football projects his 40 time to be around 5.29. I've seen little of his tape. But looks to be an athletic guard with a lot of upside.
He'll get tried out as a tackle first, that's where his best value would be if he can make the move. At his height it's hard to get leverage inside at guard, and he doesn't seem to be an overpowering guy who can compensate. That said, his feet looked pretty sloppy as a freshman playing tackle, so we'll see.
I remember seeing cut ups of Calhoun from near the end of last year and nothing about his game said great pass rusher In regards to Vadal Alexander, he and the whole LSU line with the likes of La'El Collins, have not been great this year. Even though he's not a big guy and he wasn't great against Auburn, I really like Tyler Lockett.
