This is ridiculous! The ref was waving his arms and blew the whistle. That play was not gonna count no matter what happened on that play.

I can understand being upset, but blaming the official for giving the Jets a timeout they were asking for seems just silly.

Agree completely. MM saw something wrong in the line up and tried to alert Rex. Trust the QB or not, when you see something wrong at such a crucial time, 4th down and long to boot, you freaking pull the plug....
Rex needs to stay tuned with the whole game.

The bold is besides the point. As obviously no random person can go to the Jets sidelines without getting apprehended

Based on our history that's not farfetched at all.

Yup.... exactly, Ty Law made him his bitch what 3 years in a row so they add the 5 yard rule. The Seahawk DB's did the same so now they get even tougher on the contact. I think something like that really hurts a guy like Sherman who plays physical and likes to run his mouth.

I understand that the ref can't turn around. I just have an issue with the fact that they granted an illegal timeout. I understand about blown whistles and dead balls. None of that should matter since the appropriate person didn't call the time out. That's the rule.
Only the head coach can call a timeout. They granted a timeout from someone not named Rex Ryan. That's their rule. Had Rex called the timeout then there would be no dispute on my part.

Yeah it's a flaw in the rule, just explaining.

Okay I guess I had to put up a disclaimer that says if we were a part of the Jets staff and we yelled TIME OUT!!!! would they grant it.

the refs are instructed to accept the timeout called from the sideline without looking when the play clock is winding down so yes. I think the trick is to not have unauthorized personnel requesting timeouts. if the head coach is paying attention to his offensive coordinator instead of his precious defense this is never an issue.

they can also prevent this issue from happening in the future by giving the head coaches a timeout buzzer connected to the refs.

And every D-back says he didn't interfere. What's your point?

Has anyone figured out why Mornhinweg wanted to use that timeout anyway?

There would be no dispute from anyone if after they showed the replay that Rex is clearly calling for a timeout.

meh, i put alot of blame for this loss on rex and the coaching in general, but his explanation to why he was on the defense channel was very pausible. the offensive play call was already in, he changed over to prepare in case it was a turn over on downs. of all the things that went wrong, that is pretty far down, and its a long list

He said the formation was fucked up so he needed to call TO but that before he could communicate the TO to Rex Geno fixed the issue. But at that point Richardson saw him signaling and was so concerned about the noise and he was just trying to help out and he called the TO into the refs ear.
