I don't get the logic of this post. Are you saying that it is better to have bad cb's in the NFL right now? I watched a big chunk of the Giants game. One big problem for them is that Prince is not playing up to his draft status, not even close. But that does not belie the benefit of focusing on the secondary in forming your team. It was just a bad draft pick. Meanwhile Cromartie looked very good for Arizona. Jets should have resigned him.
I just can't agree with settling on a field goal or settling for three straight runs up the gut and kicking a field goal in that situation like most can. You're going to need to win this game in a shootout style why not try and score after several successful runs and underneath throws? He had Sudfeld open I really can't understand why more blame isn't put on Winters for almost getting Geno kills multiple times from the blindside yesterday. He's a liability and should be benched. Marty called an awful second half and I can understand the frustration with him and the entire coaching staff. It's tough to hate on the guy going for the kill shot to try to bury this team down 28-6 at half time when we've had the most conservative play calling of the last decade that lead to sitting on leads against big time quarterbacks only to lose the game.
Actually on the big plays Pryor was up top but he positioned himself terribly and ended up being no help. And missed the help tackle at that.. Pryor looked awful out there yesterday ..
Green Bay was deflated, they tried and onside kick, proving how desperate they were. Ivory bounced a nice run to the outside for a first down or near a first down. You got to keep pounding him there. Take control of the clock, take a nice lead to the half, all the momentum. On top of that we were receiving to start the 2nd half and I would have called run on all 3 downs or maybe mixed in one screen play to POwell; if you pick up a first down you keep running the ball. You play defense and run with that kind of a lead, this kind of a running threat and this kind of a defense. We were pitching shut outs the whole first half (up until the last drive). Field Goals that's it. **one other thing to note is there is no telling the run wouldn't have led to 6 instead of a field goal** we had Green Bay on their heels. We gave up all the momentum, should have been pounding. I don't hate Marty, yesterday was his worst as an OC with the New York Jets. He managed a terrible game with a nice lead. That's on him. The TO was awful too, you are not the head coach, you don't call TOs.
Yes exactly. Milliner looked slow reacting all day but regardless a one man route with one safety over the top and the guy is late on that play including a horrible angle? Pryor didn't even get in his way, nor stay on the back hip of Nelson like players are taught since they're 7 and 8 years old. Use the sideline to your advantage and the fact that you have Milliner trailing. Instead he gives up the inside and there's no one else home.
As for the OP... There were obvious coaching problems, but imo they were not the dterminative reasons the Jets lost. There were two key moments. The first was Winters getting beat on that pass play that led to Smith's interception. I thought Winters played well against Oakland, but it was disheartening to see him play so badly yesterday. But it also seemed Smith was a different player after that play, too, which is not all on Winters by any means. From that play on, Smith looked to have less and less confidence, and his passes lacked accuracy or were timed poorly, or both. The other key moment was something alluded to before, that being the single safety back on the Rodgers to Nelson TD pass. Milliner is hobbled by a bad ankle, and Pryor was too far off the coverage to help. Bad scheme, and a black mark on Ryan. But really, the need to have played Milliner yesterday was really on Idzik, since the Jets were desperate to have Milliner back with Walls and Allen giving up way too much to Rodgers. Notice Milliner did not get into the game until the Pack had shown they had their passing game clicking against those two. Rex probably felt he had to put Milliner in. To be clear, I don't think it was any one part of the team that lost the game. The loss was a team effort, including props to Wilkerson.
Jet, I know, the issue I have with that play is the fact that you just tied the game, momentum is swinging to the jets side and Rex gambles, as you know, when you are on the road you have to play so as to not give up the big play, force them to go the lenght of the field a little at a time. I'm not talking about a dime prevent defense, just don't let them get the big play, play cover 3, make them work for it.
I agree with all of this outside of the hate on the play call at the end of the half. We went conservative against Oakland at the end of the game to an extent and it kept them an onside kick away from being in the game.
If it was a TD pass, like it looked like it might have been (had Geno not been hit) there is no discussion here. I think the wiser call there is to protect the football and take the nice healthy lead to the half. There are mental things that can take the will of teams. We were on the doorstep of taking the will from Green Bay. Marty needs to manage the game better than he did yesterday.
I don't agree that Walls and Allen were giving up way to much. They were keeping the play in front of them and often made quick and sure tackles setting up numerous 3rd downs. I don't think Milliner has shown anything in his NFL history that suggests he's better than either one of these two. It was bullshit to put him in period. He fucking sucks--there, I said it.
Milliner was defensive player of the week twice down the stretch last year. He's hurt now. But that doesn't make him worse than Walls or Allen. The Jets CS obviously felt that Walls and Allen needed help. Can't say i disagree with them.
Clearly the Jets offensive philosophy should be built around striving for FG's not TD's. We should have kept Sporano.
Time and place, there you run the ball with the upside of possibly breaking a td, controlling the clock and receiving to start the second half. Worst case you kick a field goal, there shouldn't be much to any time left on the clock with two possession lead heading into the half where you are receiving the ball. Plain and simple, Marty managed a bad game plan when we had a nice lead.
He WAS wide open. If Geno is not hit that is likely 6 points. Even then though it is bad situational football. Needed to control the ball and clock and maximize the potential for a positive outcome by scoring AND not allowing GB to have enoght time to score.
Understood but we were up 21-3 .. It was TIME TO PLAY CONSERVATIVE ! Thats bad coaching, and geno had the wide open check down i know ivory always drops passes but I'd rather that drop pass and a opportunity to really put the game away with even just a FG but nope.. Not the jets. We play consersative when we should be attacking and we attack when we should be conservative
Coming out of the 2 min, warning up 21-9, ball on the pack 27, why in the hell are u throwing it there, even if you get 7 on that play, the pack get the ball back with Timeouts. Why not run it twice and throw a safe bubble screen so at least you make them use all 3 timeouts, take the three and at worst say you give back the 3, its 24-12. Interception, pack TD and a swing of 10 points. Game over right there. That's where Rex is gotta tell the coordinator what he wants. All he does is manage the defense and do post game press conferences. Herm might have managed the game better. We will never win a championship with a coordinator as our head coach.
