ILB is not a premium position. There's no way it should be in the top spot for needs. In addition, what about Ik Enemkpali? They could also bring Harris back or sign a mid-tier FA. RB is not a need at all.

Top 3 areas of need are CB, OL and OLB right now. I think Coples will have a breakout year but could still use another pass rusher. This draft is very heavy at WR again so we could always go mid to later rounds. I don't think our CB situation is that bad it's not good either. It's servicable. I don't want to use another high pick on secondary. I'm all for a Revis reunion but only if it's cheaper, but in any case don't see it happening. As the 2015 draft prospects stand now there are lots of good OL prospects at the top. I would look to address that in the first round.
Re-signing Harris is something I expect, but he's in his twilight years and not a long term option. My needs list doesn't correspond with what round the Jets should draft what position. I put ILB at the top because I believe the team will spend multiple picks at the position. Inemkpali is a pass rushing specialist, and therefore not suited for ILB. Running Back isn't a need right now, but it's a position that takes such a beating that I don't think you can stop bringing in more players. It's also at the bottom of my list. Outside of the first two rounds, draft strategy needs to be about predicting future holes, because most of the players you get in the draft aren't going to be ready to contribute in a starting role. You have to draft players that you can coach into taking on a bigger role. I constructed my list to reflect that approach.
OK, thanks for the clarification. That makes more sense to me. I don't think the Jets will use multiple picks on the ILB position. I do think they may look to invest a mid-round pick and either bring back Harris or sign a younger FA. We'll just have to agree to disagree. Again, it's just not as important as other positions, particularly when you don't have two quality starting CBs or safeties. Davis will hold down one spot, so they'll only need one. If George doesn't develop and win the spot, they'll still have Bellore as one backup and hopefully George can develop enough to be a quality backup at the other. RBs do take a pounding and as we know Ivory has some injury issues and Chris Johnson is older, so I could perhaps see them taking a RB in a mid-to-lower round. They do have Richardson on the PS however, unless some other team signs him away, so if Ivory stays healthy and Johnson can still produce at a high level, they may opt to hold off drafting a RB for another year or two.
Past 2 years have been strange I mean this team can draft Todd Gurley and I wouldnt be shocked I just want talent in the first 2-3 rounds and fill needs later on
I'd like to think that, Jets must get day 1 starters out of the first three picks. If 3rd rounder happens to be WR or QB [which could be the case] then at least the top two picks must be day 1 starters. Of course, the overriding philosophy has to be BPA, unless that best prospect happens to be a DT [then they should trade down.] That said, I'd like CB and OLB for the first two picks. If they can trade down and grab another 3rd/4th, that would be fantastic. All in all, Jets need another CB that can start, and a blue chip OLB. Round 3-5 are for developmental picks that will remain; so, I'd like a QB/SS/WR or, if Geno pans out, SS/WR/C or LT or TE. Last two picks, I'd like OL depth and ILB depth.
we need to be a bit careful labeling rounds 3-5 as developmental picks. there is mucho talent in college these days and teams have only 7 rounds to get it. The last 2-3 years good talent has "slipped" into these mid rounds and teams have been gobbling up real good players that can start. 10 years ago yes these mid rounds were known as flyers and teams would be considered lucky to get 1 starter out of that area. IMO teams now should/need to expect to get 1 eventual starter out of the middle rounds. hey we got it with LB davis a couple years ago and kerley before that. not sure we'll be so fortunate from our most recent drafts and thats a bummer..... spot on about CB and OLB. if they dont spend the premium for a CB we are looking at yest another hi round corner next year. its not a good pattern to be locked into.
Four years ago this would have been right. The problem is that there has been an explosion of underclassmen coming into the draft process since the new CBA went into effect. I'm not sure you can make best use of your 3rd and 4th round picks at this point without taking some shots on projects.
This is exactly where my concern comes in. In the past - but not that long ago - it would have been a must to find day 1 contributors, with 2 starters, out of the first 4 picks. With the huge influx of underclassmen these days, it is not even likely to get a day 1 starter out of 2nd round pick. That said, I still believe it is imperative that Jets find a day 1 starters out of first 2 rounds. They shouldn't commit any more stupidity a la Stephen Hill or DuCasse. [Both were project picks from T-Bomb era in 2nd round. Stupid all around.]
I'll just go by players that I like..Gurley and Yeldon top the list. I know RB isnt a need. And most Jet fans would probably flip if we took a RB in the 1st round. But to me both of these guys are going to be studs. And not for nothing but how good would this team be with a top RB? In my mind CJ is a one year stop gap. Ivory isnt a guy that can handle the full load. And Powell is just a complimentary. Other teams have stud RB's and because of those guys they are considered better than they would be without em. If we dont have a top 5 pick (Im predicting we wont) and miss out on Amari Cooper, then RB is a safe and smart way to go. Gurley could go top 10 and we could easily have 3 RB's go in the 1st round.
I want a stud LB that can replace Harris. With skill level somewhere in between Patrick Willis and Harris
We need to get an offensive lineman and a pass rushing OLB. RB shouldn't be taken in top 4 rounds. It's just not a critical position for the league or for us
Its a huge advantage though if you have a dual threat guy like Charles, Forte or McCoy. What would those teams offenses look like without those players? Even a Gio Bernard would be amazing to have. The Decker and CJ signings were great but were still thin with playmakers and as it stands right now there is really only 1 WR that is a for sure 1st rounder. I dont expect us to take one. But if we did I wouldn't be pissed about it.
I agree we are thin at playmakers but i don't know if a RB is the way to go. Those three teams you mentioned surely might have weaker offenses without those backs but none of those teams are even close to being in the Super Bowl discussion because a dynamic back just isn't that important. Charles is useless when placed on a team with no offensive line and no defense. Same thing with Forte. We have to find a left tackle to replace Ferguson, a center, a true WR threat and a pass rushing OLB. CJ2K and Ivory are more than capable of handling the load. How many carries / touches would this back get next year if Ivory and CJ2k are healthy? I'm fine with a fourth round pick being spent on an RB, maybe a third. But nothing higher as we have holes to fill and RB is low on the list.
CJ is pushing 30 - Gurley is one talented back. It would be hard to say no if he's on the clock. I do believe we need to continue rebuilding the offense line, and grab a linebacker if we don't sign Harris. Draft is all about BPA tho.
For me I wanna go WR and ILB the first two rounds Re-Sign Harris while the LB develops for a year WR steps in day 1 opposite Decker
