You say it like it's easy to draft a Dez Bryant, lol. If Bryant does hit FA, which I doubt, I'd hope Idzik would try to go after him.
Right now, (yes after one game I know) we have a great chance to win the AFCE. The Pats aren't who they were, Miami are on the rise but still not in our ballpark and the Bills are ... well who knows yet. We have a fantastic stable of HBs that can do it all, I like that and view it as something that also helps out Geno and somewhat takes the heat of him having to win games. Why we would would to fiddle with that is absurd. No
One guy who I'd love to get is Demaryius Thomas. His TD in the Tebow PO game an his all around assume-ness. Plus with 'coach' Manning honing his rout tree skills and giving him ump-teen pass attempts, the dude is at the TOP of my 'must get' list. But...how could any team get him? 1) out bid the Broncos for him. 2) have a player already on the team he knows and trusts for straight answers to coaching, team, and quality of life questions in the big apple. 3) offer Decker & his smokin momba a weekend at Woodys summer estate in Hawaii if he get's Thomas on board, even if his wife has to 'take one for the team'. If I were a GM this shit would be easy
Both are in winning situations. I could see Crabtree leaving now that I think about it, remember seeing an article that SF didn't want to pay him. Thomas on the other hand I expect he will have his contract sorted out before offseason hits.
I'm sure he would make a play for him but we wouldn't give him the money he thinks he would command. Another great receiver draft class is coming up in 2015, I think Idzik will go that route.
No way. This is the first time in decades when the Jets are actually deep with decent running backs. Given Ivory's history as a rough runner and the Jets history for bad luck I feel much more confident having our 3 guys on the roster with Richardson in the wings just in case. With Decker, Kerley, and Amaron the Jets have a decent set of receivers. Jones is no Megatron, he isn't going to make an impact.
Jacoby Jones stopped being really effective when they let Boldin go but he's a decent player and can stretch the field. It's wouldn't be bad at all to have that extra deep threat that's really quick. Didn't he have 2 TDs in the superbowl a couple years back? He'd certainly get more reps than Powell, but I have a feeling the Jets would like to keep it young and stick with Hakim.
Crabtree can't stay healthy don't want him plus he is a mediocre wr Now Thomas would be awesome but wont happen
Powell is too valuable to be traded for a marginal talent increase like Jacoby Jones, especially one who'll be looking for a payday soon. Keeping him would definitely be the better option. The only way that i could see trading Powell is like @jcass10 said, for picks. Even then, it would have be something that Idzik couldn't refuse. Sent using Tapatalk
I don't think there's any chance Bilal Powell garners anything higher than a 5th round pick, most likely less.
Powell is a versatile and durable back that gets carries in a very deep backfield. I don't think it's out of the question that the Jets could get the same amount for him that they gave for Chris Ivory - a 4th - from a team whose offense is in dire need of a tough runner with a handful of moves and middling speed, plus excellent hands out of the backfield and good blocking ability. That said, I'd rather have Powell on the roster than an extra 4th round pick in 2015.
If someone was offering a 4th right around the trade deadline I'd really have to consider it, since Powell is only under contract until the end of the year. It would be a little risky but it would be worth it for a 4th I think. In all honesty I really don't think anyone would offer more than a 5th or 6th.
You wouldn't take that deal if the Jets were still in a wide open playoff race, right? Bilal Powell is worth more than a future pick if the Jets are still in the thing. He's excellent depth and he has the attitude of a starting HB. That's really important when you consider injury scenarios. Some guys come into the game after an injury and they're just trying to prove themselves. Powell will come in knowing he can do the job. That's a big difference.
Would you tale Crabtree right now over Salas for example? Thats my point. Crabtree is better than what you have now, minus Decker
The only person i've seen report this on twitter (and i just skimmed it quickly after typing in Powells name) was Incarcerated Bob who is not a quality source. Jets Press mentioned it as a question. But it does make sense. We don't need Powell and could absolutely benefit from adding another receiver. It depends if the Jets share those views though. If you want to add a player via trade you usually have to trade from a strength and RB is the Jets strength.
IMO, Powell is better at his respective position then Jones is at his. Unless it came with some draft picks ( which i doubt it would ) I would pass.
I absolutely wouldn't take anything under a 4th, and I really couldn't tell you if I would take a 4th for Bilal, I would definitely at least consider it. Especially if we were trading him out of conference... I mean I probably wouldn't but it would be tempting to take a 4th for him.
