The problem with this argument is, YOU DON'T KNOW IF THAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. They HAD a shot at it, probably - like so many other cases along the game. I keep telling you, JETS DID NOT NEED TO BE IN THAT SITUATION IN THE FIRST PLACE. Is it THAT hard to comprehend?
Why the hell are you getting so emotional? Calm down. They shouldnt have been there but they were so its too bad. Nobody knows if they would have scored but they never even gave themselves the chance to score. How hard is that to comprehend?
we don't know if the offense would have scored, it would not have been easy against a very good D but what we do know is the O wasn't given a chance to score. I was in that Stadium the building was as nervous as could be when we scored to pull w/in 5 and they did not want to see our O get one more chance.
There was no doubt that we would have scored if we had gotten the stop. It felt like destiny, and just perfect.
Sanchez played really well that game, Crappy first half but that wasn't all on him. Our entire team, not just Offense, not just defense, both combined played bad. Then in the second half both played very well. It was vise versa from the Colts game the year before. I'm not going to blame the defense for not getting off the field at the end of the game when they held that QB and offense to zero points and actually beat them by themselves 2-0. They couldn't get off the field at the end against what could be a HOF QB, it happens. I always go back to the play calling on that drive where we didnt convert on 4th and goal right before the safety. If I remember correctly that was a long drive we went on. To not come away with a TD there was huge. I'll never understand why Greene didn't get more touches down there. I believe we went to LT twice and Sanchez almost threw a pick on a quick slant. Shonn Greene was running thru people on that drive. He should have got the ball down there. If we score there, it's a one possession game with a lot more time on the clock. Instead we didn't, got the safety (which saved us) and then went on another equally long drive to finally score. By that time though we really needed the defense to shut the Steelers down on O, they didn't, it happens. We would have had a lot more leeway time wise though if we scored that TD in the first place.
The D didn't force a safety, Pitt got the ball on their 1 and fumbled the snap. had we scored we have more time but how do we know Pitt doesn't run it down our throats? we had a great opportunity and we failed. a big time D doesn't fail in that spot. they at least give the O a chance.
They still get credit for it is my point. They played extremely is what i'm getting at. Pitt may have run it down our throats. We'll never know. But I would have liked our O to punch that TD in on 4th and goal is all i'm saying. I thought it was a poor decision not to give Greene a touch in that situation. He was running so well. EDIT* I actually just went back and looked at the box score. He did get a touch on first down, then they called two pass plays and then LT was stuffed. I still would have given Greene one more crack to put it in.
Alcohol should have been my friend. Maybe not, I almost wrecked my 60 inch sober; with alcohol in the mix it would have definitely been wrecked.
D get's no credit IMO. You can't call yourself a physical team and get manhandled in the way we did in such a big game. When we lost to Indy the year, before I tipped my hat off to Manning. After the Pitt game, I was embarrassed.
D gets no credit for the second half? I said they played horribly in the first half. They didn't give up a point in the second. Game very easily could have got way out of hand but didn't because the D kept them in it. And yes Sanchez and O played well in the second half also.
Oh yeah, good thing you didn't do that man. Jets were such a joke that day that honestly, I didn't even get mad about it.
For those who are unaware, Cotchery asked to be released. It was fairly well documented at the time of release. See: http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/6833667/new-york-jets-release-jerricho-cotchery (there were a bunch of articles on it at the time) Essentially, he wasn't happy that the Jets brought in Plaxico and Mason. He felt he was a starting receiver and was pissed that the Jets looked at him as a 3rd receiver.
He's earned that right. He was a very reliable #2. Hell, I could deal with Braylon/Santonio, but Santonio/Plax/Mason in front of Cotch? That was more than a slap in the face. I cannot say I didn't like Santonio deal - 5th round pick for such a talent is always a bargain. That said, I was hoping Jets would retain the nucleus of Braylon/Santonio/Cotchery/Keller. That's a very solid WR line up in my eyes, especially since Sanchez had good chemistry with Braylon to make other connections work better. If one had to go between Santonio and Braylon, I was hoping that one would be Santonio. Braylon made the whole passing game go with his vertical dimension. Once he left, Sanchez's passing game went down the drain as well. I still think Jets could have done a lot better that season with Braylon/Cotchery/Kerley/Keller. Grabbing Tone in place of Braylon was a big mistake.
To me, they never should have brought Mason in. Cotchery was basically a younger Mason who also happened to be a career Jet.
I'll never understand why they brought in that shitbag Burress. Forget about Mason. Cotch with Holmes and a burgeoning Kerley might have been satisfactory. Mason was an afterthought.
Burress was the prototypical tanny move. Talented, juicy, high-profile player. He was actually ok here . . . he just needed more speed around him. He would have been a much better fit with Edwards.
