I'd really like to see Allen play CB against some real passing teams before I consider him an option to really start at the position and not just fill a desperate need. He did do well against Oakland, let's see how he does against GB and Chicago.
These are my sentiments exactly. If AA is struggling to cover the Packers WRs, move him back to S or Big Nickel S when he covers the TEs. But give him a chance this week. Who knows? Maybe the Jets hit on something big here.
The Jets will probably keep Allen at CB for at least this week. It's not even clear Milliner will start, and is unlikely to play every defensive down. They are still woefully thin there.
Just curious as to why? He played decently against AJ Green and then the Giants and again in Game 1 against the Raiders. He would hold much more value to this franchise going forward as a solid CB then S.
I think Allen could have a Kam Chancellor like impact on our defense. He hits hard, he tackles well, he can go one on one against TEs, his coverage ability has gotten better. I value the safety position in today's league far more then CBs. I think we can win with average CBs and good safeties. Watching the Seahawks all year last year opened my eyes in regards to that.
http://www.sportsonearth.com/articl...eties-are-evolving-into-very-valuable-players Safeties are becoming more of a priority and I think having a great safety has higher value in today's league then a great CB.
Kam is one of those players you only see once or twice in a decade. Allen is never going to reach that level, but I think he'll end up being a very good safety in his own right.
I think his potential to either shut or slow down greatly opposing TEs at the S position and cause havoc in the box is of more value to us than him being a serviceable CB. Not to mention it can possibly free up Pryor to make plays in the back end.
OK... Between Pryor and Allen, Allen is a FS... He is the guy I would rather be back there in center field because we do not know how Pryor covers yet... And you want Pryor up closer to the line anyway because he hits like a truck... Antonio Allen - FS Dawan Landry & Calvin Pryor - SS
Yes but if we are talking prototypical safeties with the guys we have....... Allen would be your FS and Pryor your SS.
Allen isn't as good as Kam I know - but I am saying the guy is very versatile, he can make plays all over the field like a Kam. No Pryor is better playing deep, he played deep the majority of the time against the Raiders. His coverage skills are underrated. They are interchangeable which makes it even better to have them both at the S spots. In this offense Pryor is the starting FS.
Neither of them are prototypical anything at this point. But they are flexible enough to play both positions. Which is what Rex has been looking for since he got here. Btw, between the two of them, Allen is the better SS candidate.
This is strictly YOUR opinion and yours only. Someone didn't watch the Raiders game. I had an argument about this about Pryor and Allen after the draft. Pryor's coverage is underrated as hell on this board.
You actually have those reversed. Just because AA is thus far a more accomplished one on one cover guy that doesn't automatically makes him best suited at FS. Of the 2 Pryor has more experience playing in space, seeing the entire field then reading and reacting to what he sees. Tackling in the box is very different from having to do so in the open field coming from deep center field. Pryor has more of the range and understanding of the proper angles needed to make those plays.
