Time to see what the collective people of TGG have to say on this subject...I personally think there are tons of problems behind the scenes that the NFL is doing to protect their image. They obviously don't have a Ray Donovan or a Michael Clayton to solve their problems (my tv/film pun ) Do you think its time Roger Goodell should resign, especially after word was released that the NFL received the knockout punch tape in April...Along with a bunch of other issues?
As an ardent Goodell hater, I think the media witch hunt in this is ridiculous and he doesnt deserve to be fired or resign whatsoever. Everyone at ESPN should be killed for pushing this agenda while Ray Lewis is employed at their network
whatever it takes to get rid of the fuck head is fine with me. I just fear the next guy will be even worse. the owners supposedly love Goodell.
If Goodell goes then the pace of change in the game will accelerate. A new guy coming in is *guaranteed* to be a lawyer with a fresh set of eyes on the concussion issues and he (or she - a likely result of a Goodell resignation or firing) is going to push to accelerate the rate of change in the game. They're going to have eyes on the liability of their employers first and foremost and on everything else as a secondary concern. I happen to like the current pace of change. The NFL is giving us a slowly evolving rule set that mitigates the worst violence in the game on a continuing basis. A new set of eyes right now is going to be a disaster in my opinion.
I don't know. This is a huge mess though & it seems like cover up after cover up... Its to early for me to pass judgment...
Too early to tell. It seems someone in the NFL saw the video according to the police. Maybe that person hid it, maybe someone above them hid it, maybe everyone saw it and it was a cover up. It also begs the question if the NFL saw it, why they went to bat for Ray Rice. On top of that, it also means were they lying to reporters (side note it was strange/a spectacle to see Schefter mad at the NFL) and what not. All that could be distanced from Goodell, or he could be included. Wait and see approach in my opinion
This is just the latest in a series of disasters involving Goodell: Spygate - destroying the evidence, so while the Pats were punished harshly nobody really knew how deep it went Bountygate - where he overstepped his bounds and Tagliabue reinstated all the players Replacement refs - that couldn't have backfired any more publicly than it did And this was botched as badly as it could have been botched from the start. From the ham-handed original penalty to the clumsy and repeated attempts at a coverup.
It may be time for change, but keep in mind that Goodell is running a billion dollar industry and he is making more money for the NFL each year than the year before. His job status, first and foremost, is about the NFL's profits; if controversies like his handling of the Ray Rice incident start to pull back on the NFL's revenue stream, then he will be gone in an instant. But if the NFL keeps making money as an entertainment organization (which it is), Goodell should be fine. Ethical or not, it's about the bottom line.
Pretty much this, Roger Goodell destroyed the players in the last lockout, he then destroyed the ex NFL players in court to. (although that is still not over). Goodell's value is very high, John Mara has already come out supporting him. Until the money starts dropping, nothings changing, heck CBS is going to get a huge rating tomorrow night, just watch. In a week or two all of this will be over and everyone's gonna forget about it.
They just rolled out their 'independent investigation' trump card...it buys them time and unless there's a smoking gun on record it'll be swept under the rug.
I love how Boomer went on a rant on Inside the NFL about how damaging this is to Janay and that he'd refuse to do the show if they showed the clip... Lol dude, do you watch MNF? National audience. They showed it during half time of both games. Everyone watching probably already saw it anyway.
I hate Goodell because he has watered down the game too much. This incident is just the excuse we've all been waiting for. If it's true that he already saw the video and then didn't react accordingly until it was officially released then it shows pure hypocrisy on his part and that he is unfit to be commissioner. His stance on drugs is absurd. This man is ruining the game in an attempt to attract more female fans. I hope he gets exposed and proved a liar so we can be rid of his ass. He tried to pretend the video didnt exist but I'm sure he saw it. He probably figured people would forget about it so he lied in a attempt to protect the NFLs reputation, despite it being loaded with criminals for the past 20 years+
Now they are saying that some gal from the NFL called one of these law related agencies or the casino & said on a voice mail, basically, yeah we have seen the video & its terrible. So the NFL did know... Saw this on CNN. If it turns out the NFL did try to cover this up. I'm done with football. I cant, I won't support any organization like that, knowingly.
He goes on one condition. He either saw the tape or purposefully refused to see it and covered THAT up. If it's determined to a certitude that he lied about seeing the tape or demanded not to see it he's a goner. Anything short of that and IMHO he stays. This country has become a nation of folks looking to squeeze every last blood out of a stone. Stirling HAD to go. ARod HAD to go. Ray Rice HAD to go. Goodell HAS to go. Clinton HAD to go. Bush HAD to go. Obama HAS to go. Once those folks go, all the people crying for vengeance no longer give a fuck and move on to the next public figure they want to crucify. _
The NBA wanted Stirling out for being a sleazy owner and his slur was the ammo they needed. Baseball wanted ARod out and they did all they could do to make that happen. Folks hate Goodell so this is his smoking gun. 6 months from now nobody is going to give a crap about any of these issues. It's just like the right and the left attacking each other. It's all grandstanding. _
