After 30+ years I can't , just CAN'T get excited after one 5 point win at home. I've been burned way too many times. That being said I do "see" the OP point that there is a way to navigate the schedule if we play well.
It's interesting to call the Chargers game a win consider we usually struggle in California regardless of who we play. He has a career 95.8 passer rating and 64.4 completion percentage. Danny Woodhead could gives us fits without any linebacker that can even remotely run with him. That being said, all of these games are both very winnable and lose-able. The only team I would confidently say we would lose to 99 times out of 100 is Seattle. Outside of that drawing Denver at home helps a lot, as Rex Ryan's defense, despite not facing all these weapons, has always given Peyton Manning some struggles and by some struggles I mean he doesn't light them up like he does everyone else. We'll need to score some points on the defense or special teams to roll with Denver.
Nah, at 1-6, we'd be in full cut and fire everybody mode. Then we go to should we suck for _______ mode, then we talk about who to hire, then FAs, THEN we talk about who to draft.
You often hear the saying "football is won in the trenches". Well, we now have some pretty good trench units on both sides of the ball. On defense, we have the heaviest front seven in the NFL (and these are athletic big dudes, not just dead weight), and a very big, strong and fast D-Line, and on the offensive line, we also have some good players (Mangold + Ferguson) and penalty prone but mean and big-strong dudes (Colon and Giancomini). Even Winters seems to be playing better. Throw in an excellent running game with Ivory, CJ, and Powell, and I think we will provide evidence to the saying above this year. No matter who we face, I expect most games to be close, and our Lines to keep us in them. We might lose some, win some, but I don't see lots of easy wins for our opposition this year. Even last year, when we had a very atrocious offense and no secondary, we still managed to finish 8-8, and give some good teams a run for their money. This year, the lines will do their job, and it will be up to our skill players to put us over the top.
No team ever looks good on Thursday nights. All of the teams end up playing shitty. Familiarity will help but at the same time the Jets need a gameplan to shut down New England. Kind of agree with the way that the defense is being built. Having top heavy defenses never helped the team as in a passing league you need pash rushers. Nice to see that they realized that and spent 3 years drafting to improve the pash rush and this year to get a hybrid safety.
Our schedule last year was way more difficult then this year. Obviously we play our division twice each, but here's the other 10 for each season. 2013 - Bucs, Panthers, Saints, Falcons, Bengals, Browns, Steelers, Ravens, Titans, Raiders. 2014 - Packers, Bears, Lions, Vikings, Chiefs, Chargers, Broncos, Raiders, Titans, Steelers. The Jets under Rex tend to lose against teams with good defenses way more then they lose to good offenses. If I go by total defense for 2013 for these 10 games, in 2013 6 of those 10 were Top 15 defenses. This year only 3, two of which are the Titans and Steelers who we played last year as well, and one is the Chiefs lost nearly half their defense in free agency. I couldn't give two shits about what offenses we are facing. The Jets year in and year out overcome QB's like Brady, Manning, Ryan, Brees and Rivers. Its the teams like Baltimore,Pittsburgh, Cincy, and Carolina that end up beating us because their defense's shut down our offense so the point where no matter how great our D is, it doesn't matter. If our offense can keep putting up 400 yards per game and just keep the turnovers to 1 per game instead of 2, this is a 26 - 28 point per game team, and that is going to take down a ton of teams this season.
Meh. The Patriots have to play on the road at Buffalo that same sunday we play the Broncos, which from a "short recovery time" standpoint may be worse. The Bills are better in the trenches then the Broncos and with the home field advantage will put a physical beating on the Pats. Who knows if they actually win but no matter who you play, Thursday night games suck for both teams.
Jets are going either 15-1 or 16-0 this year. Having already utterly dominated the toughest team on the schedule (Oakland; btw, shoulda won by 60 points instead of 5), there is no doubt in my mind.
GODDAMN IS OUR DICK HUGE RIGHT NOW. Rock hard, long as fuckin flatbush, and we about to bitch slap err'body wit'it. Yeah, fuck this hard schedule shit, we're awesome, we're the fuckin Jets, we can breathe in space like batman bitch!!!
The season rests on this 6 game stretch. I think the GB game is very winnable. They aren't locks to win at home like they were in the past. Interesting tidbit, the Jets are 8-3 lifetime against the Pack including a 4-2 record on the road. The Chi game could be rough, Jeffrey and Marshall against our CB corps. I hope bad Cutler shows up. Detroit showed a lot against a tough Giants defense. Megatron will get his catches, but we will also score a lot. Det's secondary is trash. We do pretty well against San Diego, should still be a tough one though. The final two games will really test our resolve. Denver and NE in a 4 day stretch. Denver will most certainly beat us. I'm fairly confident we will sweep the Pats this year though. Think we go 4-2 over the stretch.
Lets not get fooled like we did in 2012. After that Bills game it felt like we were on top of the world. Sanchez was the #1 QB in the league and the offense looked awesome. Yeah we dominated the Raiders, but it's the Raiders. I'm not ultra worried about those 6 teams, but Broncos and Lions are going to very tough. Milliner, get well soon!
I think it's almost hopeless. 1/3 of the board is over the moon thinking we're marching into Green Bay ready to get our perfect season 1/8 of the way over.
Strictly talking about the Lions game I disagree. They looked great against a poor Giants team. This is not an automatic loss. Especially in our building.
