what exactly is your criticism? that it is wrong for the Ravens to right their obvious mistake? what kind of logic is that? if you make the wrong decision initially you should just continue to defend it?
This is damage control plain and simple, if you really believe the NFL or Ravens haven't seen this new video before it was released I got a house on the moon for sale.
There was no good way for the Ravens to make this right short of releasing him. The NFL could have taken the Ravens off the hook by suspending Rice for the entire season. That would have provided cover for the Ravens and a way back on to the roster for Rice after he served out his suspension. Another missed opportunity in a episode riddled with missed opportunities.

Not a race thing at all... It is a matter of QB being wayyyyyy more of an important position than RB... QB is the most coveted position in all of sports. Flacco goes nowhere.
