Yes. I agree. Some fans seem to blame the OC for every failing of the offense, even where to the objective it should be clear that the OC cannot force proper execution by every player. Sometimes the fault is in the players.
I'm not against using the WC, but I'd like to see it actually fool someone and work for a big gain, using it on the 5 seemed foolish. Someone should tell Geno he's going to sit the bench if he doesn't start sliding when he should. This game was a lot closer than it should have been, that worries me, but we did find ways to score points. We don't really know anymore about this team today, than we did last week.
I think you are mistaken. The first year vick was there they used the wildcat. They didn't use it with vick as the starter. So I am guessing marty likes using it with vick seeing as he has used him in that role on a different team
There's a reason why almost no teams in the NFL use the wildcat anymore. Because it sucks. I'd be curious to see how Geno would be running the Read option but let's not get ahead of ourselves. First I just want him to keep fine tuning his pocket presence and making good reads and decisions. He keeps that up, doesn't turn the ball over and they stick to basic packages with a strong running game and they'll be fine. But Marty has to stop calling those stupid packages because those plays fool no one and they take way too long to develop.
Regardless of the fact that it almost worked, I do question the "cuteness" on the goal line. I'm all for trick plays to be in the play book for 2nd and shorts to attempt to hit a big play but I can't imagine why they tried 2 or 3 of them on the goal line. You have 6'5 David Nelson 6'2" Eric Decker and two tightends at 6'4"+. Not to mention a ground game that's been moving the ball very effectively. Smoke and mirrors on the goal line isn't going to work at all against good defenses because there simply isn't enough room to operate in the back of the end zone. Let your guys go make a play.
Perhaps it is not all that clear cut, but overall Marty used the wildcat less than Ryan did with Schotty and Sparano. Anyway, I am not so down on it as some, but the main point in this discussion is it should be clear it's not as if Marty is the one who brought the wildcat to NY, and also the obvious point that if Ryan didn't like it, we wouldn't keep seeing it used regardless of who the OC is.
The other thing I think is that Oakland's D gets weaker as you move from front to back, so there may have been some reluctance to attack their (relative) strong point.
The wildcat is fine by me. You guys overreact, it's not completely broken. We just missed a TD to Decker in the back of the endzone, wide open. Especially, since we have 3 capable backs and 2 capable running/throwing qb's we are going to see the wildcat a fair amount this year, get use to it. MM made a mistake throwing on the down Geno got sacked and we could have kicked and easy field goal instead, gone up 2 possessions and killed some more clock. He also got robbed on the Offensive Pass interference call on Decker which was a bad ticky tack call that took away a big gain.
Im never too big on YPA or passer rating or even completion percentage for that matter. But 82 % is impressive. And if the gameplan continues , it will stay around 65. That would be a more than solid season for Geno in all likelyhood. It was a perfect combo of short easy passes where the WR's got the YAC , and some passes over 10 yards. Is Oakland's D that bad though? Was Marty's gameplan that good? Is Geno now good enough to where he isnt staring down his targets and hitting the open man? Combo of everything? Guess we'll find out in the coming weeks.
Seriously? How about flipping the finger at opposing fans? How about all the brash boasting? How about getting into a pissing contest in the media with a Giants rookie RB? How about getting a tattoo of his seemingly naked wife under the jersey of his starting QB? If those aren't "classless" acts in your opinion, then we definitely have very different opinions of what constitutes "classless" and will just have to agree to disagree. If memory serves me correctly, Reid was hired almost immediately after leaving the Eagles. I think it was a month or so before the Jets contacted Mornhinweg and I believe that other teams were looking for an OC at the time.
If flipping the bird is classless then every person on Earth is classless. The only thing Id ever give Rex a shitty label for was in 2010 when the strength coach tripped the Miami player. I believe Rex knew about that "wall". Not the trip itself but the players and coaches lining up like that. But thats about it. Either way though the term "class" is very overrated. Give me a douchebag of a guy that wins any day of the week.
Time an place bro. Flipping off a smack talking fan at an mma event? Meh. Tattoo of his wife that you don't see unless he is at the beach being stalked? Meh. I promise you there are guys working on wall street wearing a $5000 suit covering up way racier tattoos than what rex is sporting. And not just a few individuals. boasting about his team and talking down a rookie? Rex keeps the focus on him and off the team. Its good for the team. Overall i think we put too much stock into how football coaches are supposed to act.
Not sure waht is meant here. I think the Jets have a perfect fit with Rex in Marty, and he's the best OC the Jets have had in a long, long time.
