I think the quote in my signature speaks to the validity of your emotional conclusions. The Patriots run defense was brutal last year and they made it to the AFC CG. Brady is now 5-7 in Miami. Conditions were brutal, they played terrible, it's week one. Their defense is vastly overrated, as well.
What brutal conditions??? Heat??? It's September and every NFL team just got through 6 weeks of camp in brutal heat. That's no excuse for week one. The Pats always have an excuse when they lose, though. It's never that they lost to a team that played better. It's always "we were horrible." I can't tell you and everyone else how much I hope this is the beginning of the end for this team.
It's early but the Brady magic wasn't there and the Pats couldn't stop the run. Those are both really bad indicators for the dynasty at this point. Revis probably played well but he's a CB, so if the QB is nothing special and you can't stop the run you can be the best CB of all time and you're still going to lose a lot.
You didn't hear them talking about the conditions during the game? Oh, you weren't watching it? Oh, you don't know what you are talking about? Oh. That's a surprise. They have won 75% of their games in the last 13 years. When they lose, it's typically their lack of execution. Mental mistakes, bad penalties, poor tackling is what did them in today, but don't let that get to you. The Patriots are not run like most organizations and, as such, they will likely be a perennial contender much longer than Brady's career. It's good that you have hope. It will help you get through adverse situations, such as football.
So this has nothing to do with anything but it also has everything to do with everything. When the Braves pitchers started to get old their dominance of the NL East began to fade. They had other talent on the team but the pitchers were what all the championship runs coalesced around. It's going to be the same thing with Brady and the Pats. Maybe not this year but when it happens it will happen because Brady is just another guy at QB and no amount of throws that they give him will change that basic fact. The defense is another question. You and I both know that the Fins offense is nothing special. None of the guys playing for them at QB, RB or WR is likely to still be a Fin in 3 or 4 years. That they made the Pats defense look bad is not a good sign.
Yeah, like I said their defense is entirely overrated. I agree with your Braves analogy. I would add that, unlike what most teams in the NFL would do, the Patriots will cut ties with Brady well before he is no longer a useful asset. It's a business and the majority (not all) decisions they make are for the long term. This concept plus an elite QB has resulted in never before seen success in the free agency era.
It's interesting, because I think this might have been the year to cut ties with Brady, however the Pats didn't like where Mallett was (obviously) and Garoppolo was a rookie. Montana got hurt and he was done in SF because the 49ers were happy with the heir apparent.
I don't agree that we've got to that point yet. I still see this team winning 12-13 games. Brady has lost this game more times than he's won, including when the Patriots were the best in the league. I think this is a combination of people hoping this is the end / fearing this is the end jumping to conclusions. It's the first game of the year, on the road, in the division, against a team that almost made the playoffs last year. Additionally, Gronkowski only played like 50% of the snaps (could be wrong, but he was out a lot). My concerns coming out of this game were: 1) Amendola is useless 2) The offensive line could not protect Brady and 3) The DE/OLB provided very little pressure on Tannehill. One last thought: Does anyone else notice how much better the picture is when you watch a game at Cowboys stadium as opposed to Miami? I know it's a new stadium, but I feel like you don't really see what is going on in Miami but you get up close shots in Dallas.
it's an obvious defense mechanism to claim that the Pats championship contending success, which coincidentally started with the emergence of Tom Brady, is based on how the Pats operate as a football operation and is not because of Tom Brady. The reality is it is due to Tom Brady, not any brilliant football operation strategies, that is the greatest contributing factor that has made the Patriots championship contenders, and with his deterioration so will deteriorate the Patriots.
It also coincided with Belichick becoming head coach, the defense becoming dominant and the Patriots adding elite offensive weapons. But let's not let facts get in the way. Do you realize that Belichick has been to 8 SB's as a coach? Ugh, facts...
Bill B the HC has helped the Pats become a dominant team over the past 15 years. Bill B the GM has created holes on their team ever since he started doing that. Bill B and Brady's greatness help cover those self created holes.
Patriots should trade Brady for Kaepernick straight up, Brady wanted to play for the 49ers growing up.....
