overall there was some positives and negatives to come away from with this game for starters, people have to be happy with how Geno performed for the most part. Anyone who doesn't understand that Woodson made a great play on the INT is kidding themselves. It's apparent Geno has command of the playbook as he has better footwork, arm mechanics, looks off receivers, and has better pocket presences. With him not worrying about the plays and staring down receivers, it's definitely helped his game. I'm not thrilled with how much he is running and the fumble. Running never ends well for QBs the Chris's looked really good today. CJ2k is clearly a threat in the passing game and still has great acceleration and burst. Ivory really can pound the ball in between the tackles, but can also take it outside. I'm really impressed with this RB core. Receivers looked pretty good for the most part. Salas had a drop, but even the best WRs have a drop every once in a while. It hurt the team and Geno, but I was still overall happy with the team's performance. Cumberland, Amaro, Decker, and Kerley all did fine. Offensive line had too many penalities, but did a great job for the most part at giving Geno throwing lanes and time in the pocket. Also made huge running lanes. It's not super impressive against the Raiders, but they have looked good all preseason as well. Defense was stout. I don't want people to get too excited about Antonio Allen because it's the raiders with a rookie QB. I always thought Walls would be fine and I'm excited to see Dee back. Pryor looked pretty good out there and I wish he came down with his first INT. I also seriously believe this front 7 can be like REALLY REALLY good. The rush defense we had today was absurd and we got pretty good pressure even though we didn't always end up with a sack. I think the Babin signing has gone under the radar, the dude has a motor. Also, Mo with those 2 PDs was pretty awesome. He's the 2nd best 3-4 DE in football I was not completely impressed with the play calling today, but I think Marty will learn from what worked and what didn't today. Overall, a win and that's all that matters
The wildcat has got to go. Our running game was awesome. The penalties will catch up with us. Our CB's played well today.
Too many penalties overall, which is a sign of a lack of discipline. Its ok against a shitty team like the Raiders but not against the murderers row we have coming up. Something like that reflects directly upon the head coach. I like Rex but he needs to get a little less of a players coach and a little more of a disciplinarian. In the first half Geno tried doing too much and channeled his inner RG3 by not sliding. He can't take those hits continually like the one that caused the fumble (his knee was down btw fuck the refs). Luckily he did a better job in the 2nd half of sliding. The sack on 3rd down that took them out of FG range was inexcusable, but I put most of the blame on Morningwood for that. It was 3rd and like 3 and they were already in FG range....give it to Ivory and let him try to get a first down. But Geno has to know the situation and get rid of the ball. On the positive side I was really impressed by AA at corner. He made some really good tackles and didn't get burned from what i saw. I'm hoping he continues to improve with experience. Overall it was a good debut by Geno and the Jets. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes and improve each week.
The o-line gave Geno all day against a pretty solid pass rush. Even when he was pressured, he still looked poised and in control. I think we might have an actual offense for the first time in a long time, it's really 3 dimensional. Decent in the pass, well above average in the run and the QB can run if all else fails. I also think that Rex has a bunch of stuff up his sleeve to mask the secondary that he didn't have last year. Coples lined up at CB and gave a bump off a receiver's release. Weird stuff like that. Also Pryor looks like he could be a solid immediate impact and can help protect the corners too (gotta catch that ball though). We gave up 25 rushing yards so I'm confident we'll be just as dominant this year. Overall, this team looked like the same as last year's with a noticeably improved offense and a slightly better pass defense (albeit against a rookie). Really, that's what we asked for.
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get a lot of hate thrown my way but who cares............how much can you really take away from that game going up against the Oakland Raiders with a rookie QB making his 1st start? Next week will be a real test for your secondary and oline.
Observe what players have gotten better since last season. That's what you can take away. Raiders spent a lot of money on their defensive line, Geno only missed about 5 throws the entire game, and his fumble wasn't a fumble.
http://www.spotrac.com/free-agents/nfl/punter/available/ Take your pick. I like Matt Dodge's leg, but that Miracle at the New Meadowlands punt still sticks in my head.
Raiders in my opinion aren't that good, I agree. The Jets if anything shot themselves in the foot several times we should have blown them out.
What I liked about the game was how we responded to adversity. The score at the end of the half was huge. The offense looked like a real offense. The OL penalties looked like last year constantly putting us in bad positions. Our blitz protection again was terrible. I can only recall one bad throw by Geno the overthrow to Cumberland but he he made two bad plays while being rushed turning blindly into a rusher leading to the fumble he recovered himself. That play lacked poise as did the sack late in the game. I don't have a problem with the goal line fumble. He was trying to make a play like he did many times last year. Recall the two big runs he made vs. NE which changed the direction of the game firing up the team. If he has a chance to score at the goal line he should put his head down and fight his way in. Plus it was not a fumble as his knee was down. The INT was a great play by Woodson and possibly a bad decision by Geno thinking he could squeeze it in there. But give Woodson credit and hope Geno learns his limits. In regards to the defense I will reserve judgment until we play the Packers but the offense was the best its looked since 2008 moving the ball at will only being stopped by our own mistakes.
Running game and Eric Decker were the highlights of the game, for sure. The CB's, and secondary as a whole, played well. Next week will be a huge test. This was a game we had to have, so it feels good to put it in the books as a W.
Roughing the passer call was complete bs. Officiating in general blew. If Oakland is getting all those calls, there were a lot of penalties left out there, not called for the jets. Fuck the back judge #27
Happy with the win. The Jets continue (Iv'e been a fan since 67) to be one of the most stupid teams in football. The game should have been 40-3. A lot of good things, but a lot of stupid things.
Our running game has a chance to be elite. Geno is better than he was last year . . . if he can just learn to limit the costly mistakes, we could be on to something here. Also, when the officiating goes bad in the NFL . . . you get the point.
So far as of right now gang green is leading the nfl wit 212 rushing yards.. Seattle is 2nd with 207. *raises shot glass, toast for idzik*
Overall the offense and defense both looked good but we were WAAAAAAAAAAY too sloppy and let too many opportunities slip through our hands. If we can clean those things up we could be a tough team to beat but if not, we'll need to get lucky to go anywhere. Our guards and there tendency to get flags might be the death of our offense.
Gotta save my takeaways for next Sunday evening. Think we'll have a much better state of the union against a quality GB team on the road.
