Pass defended is a statistic also known as "pass deflection". "In American football, a pass deflected, also known as a pass deflection,[1] a pass defended, a pass defensed, a pass knockdown, or a pass breakup, is an incomplete pass that is caused by a defensive player."
Now you're getting into PFF's paid subscription territory LOL Don't think I can come up with those stats
Well to put it in perspective, in 2010 Revis was ranked the 23rd best corner according to PFF. In 2008, he was ranked 2nd, and in 2009 and 2011, he was ranked 1st.
I was wary of your quote because you again did not provide a link, something that has become a trend with you. Yeah, you got that from Wikipedia, the exact quote. I'd avoid making that my source for football terms if I were you.
Ok, here's the definition from a website built for sports statistics: "It is sometimes referred to as pass deflected or pass breakup." http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/passes-defended/2013/ It is the same shit man. Jesus. You're critiquing a fuckin word that means the same thing? It's labeled with a / in between with the word "deflected" on many sites. What is a deflection then? It's a pass that was deflected by the corner, or defended away.
They forgot to add "It is sometimes referred to as pass deflected or pass breakup by people who don't know the actual term." Jesus man, look at the website you just posted. They call it Pass Defense and Pass Defended everywhere. They made that note for people like you. And you're actually the one that is making a big deal about it, you've already consulted 2 different websites to defend yourself. Guess those little green nuts still haven't dropped.
I'd take Revis at his best over Sherman at his best any day of the week. As others have stated in previous posts, Revis would follow the opposing teams best WR, and LOCK them down. His 09 season may have been the greatest season ever played by a Corner, and I'm glad to say I witnesses it as a Jets fan and a football fan. As for Sherman he's great in his own way. We all know Seattle has the best secondary in the league, which allows him to play one side. I'm not going to bash the guy or discredit hs play, because he happens to play on a great defense. That's just not fair, after all it's out of his control. But I think we can all agree, that he's pretty damn good at his job. If Revis is healthy he's cleary the beter cover corner, but none us know if he's fully recoverd from his Torn ACL.
Revis was drafted when 07? And then dominated the league by covering the best WR in 2009? Maybe this is Sherman's peak, maybe it isn't. But he isn't in the same category of Revis when they're both at their best. If he doesn't start following around the #1 WR and play man, then I don't think you can even bring up in the same conversation. They do different things and in my opinion what Revis does is much more difficult
Sherman isnt as good as Revis was, Sherman gets major help from the safeties, its litteraly his safety blanket. I would love to see him play with Eric Smith.
Okay, so I have a follow up question? If we take Revis out of the discussion, do you guys think Sherman is the best (2nd best) CB in football? I'm not too sure of that even.
Who would you put over Sherman, when it comes to being the 2nd best corner? I think Haden's overrated, and Patrick Peterson tends to get lazy with his technique. He's definitely the 2nd best Corner; I can't make an arguement for anyone else.
Clearly we need to see what Revis brings this year before we judge. But watching the game Sunday didn't show me that Sherman was the best in the league. He plays one set position, so teams can just keep their best receiver away from him. While it is a sign that teams regard him as the best Seahawks defender, it left Nelson open to do some damage. The Packers were in the game for almost 3 quarters. I'm anxious to see if BB puts Revis on Clay Sunday. Talib got that assignment last year.
I'll say that Sherman sure did a great job covering Green Bay's 3rd and 4th receiving options on Thursday. And that might be all you need to say to end the debate. With how Seattle plays defense we'll never get to see how good Sherman is until they change their scheme or the talent around him falls off significantly, but right now teams just keep their best receivers on the other side of the field and pick on Maxwell and Lane.
