A warm spot in my heart no doubt, but just not close to the best.

Seriously? Anderson was pretty awful. He fumbled too much, was given way too much credit as a blocker, and was meh running the ball. He was better as a receiver, but I never liked him and was glad to see him go even though he was a solid citizen and teammate. He just wasn't a very good football player.

I had to look that season up, because I couldn't remember who the RBs and OLmen were. The RBs were Bruce Harper, Clark Gaines, Scott Dierking and Kevin Long. Solid RBs, but nothing spectacular. The OL was a pretty good one with at least a couple of them being among the best at their position the Jets have ever had (Ward and Powell): Chris Ward, Marvin Powell, Joe Fields, Randy Rasmussen and Dan Alexander.

I don't want to turn this into a CuMar thread, but I disagree. I think Freeman McNeil and John Riggins were both much better RBs. CuMar worked very hard to stay healthy and in tip-top shape, but his running style and luck played a part in his longevity, which is what enabled him to compile such great numbers. He also got a lot of his yardage against bad teams and on third and long draws. McNeil had a lot of injuries and had to split time with Hector.

The best runningbacks we've ever had were Curtis Martin. They almost never missed a start and there was no situation where we were better off with somebody else in the game. Between them they were our best runner, short yardage runner, pass blocker and pass receiver out of the backfield.

The only thing they couldn't do was to lead block for themselves but they could juke an octopus out of it's cleats and frequently did.

I think as far as YPC goes they have a shot. 09 we led the league in rushing but also led the league in attempts by a good amount. I want this year to be a little smoother than that, bigger gains on our runs so we wont wear them down or get them hurt (we all know Ivorys durability). Plus i wanna see Geno shine and be apart of the success (if we have any) this year and show he's our guy for the long term. Though i doubt anyone would or should complain if our running game takes us far... i dont wanna hear more sanchez like excuses! "Geno didnt have anything to do with that good season we had it was our D and run game" blah blah blah

They were a pretty good trio. As great as Curtis was i still enjoyed watching Freeman more! He would just shake guys out of their shoes! Believe they called it the stutter step. Man he was fun to watch!

Hector/McNeill was the best combo I've seen in my lifetime.

Martin is the best individual by far.

Ha!!! My Dad and I still make Dierking jokes about it being 3rd and 1 on the infield dirt at Shea. Dierking and a cloud of infield dirt!!!!

Better than Greene for 3 I guess.

Sorry I don't agree with the by far. Freeman is close and was more fun to watch run.

I loath posters who routinely reply:

"Can we let them take one regular season snap first"
    or
"Get back to me in two years"
    or
"They haven't even played a game yet"

Ya. We get it. They haven't played a game yet. Maybe that's why there ain't shit to talk about so when someone gets creative and starts a poll or starts a thread about our d-line or whatever just fucking go with it.

i read it and completely agree with abyz. besides the fact that the running back by committee bullshit just became en vogue about 8 years ago.

I definitely think they have the potential to be.

I think Johnson is a perfect compliment to Ivory and Powell. To me, the group's overall effectiveness comes down to two relative unknowns: 1) The future durability/health of Ivory and 2) The amount CJ truly has left in the tank.

Time will tell, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

    From now on,

No discussions about Geno Smith in 2014.
No discussions about the cornerback position this year.
No discussions about how good the defensive line is gonna be.
No discussions about how good of a year or bad of a year we are gonna have.
    None.

After all, they haven't even played a snap yet.

Well, it was a thing in the past. There were numerous committees before the Super Bowl era and there had been some into the 1970s. The 1980s through 2000s was the era of teams usually relying heavily on one runner. Those were really the oddball decades in league history as far as running is concerned.
