ESPN keeps shitting on the Jets. I hope Rex can post this to the locker room. Got I hate those Pats loving dbags. We were 8-8 last year, we got better at every position except CB but we are still behind the abysmal Giants. http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings/_/year/2014/week/1
Its not as bad as you think, they have us ranked #9 of all AFC teams. Typically the 9th ranked team is playing week 17 for a potential playoff spot. Ill sign up for that. I do think we are better than the Chiefs though, and the Ravens.
No soxxx They need to explain what below teams did to be ranked better than the Jets? We were better than below teams last year and what they did in the offseason isn't enough to put them ahead of us. Geno has one more year under his belt. His backup is a solid backup in Vick. We got upgraded at WR by adding Decker and our running game will be much better than last year. D Line will improve further. Okay we are suspect at CB but why are we behind fucking Giants, Bucs, Falcons and Steelers?
This is like the "Sports Illustrated 5-11 thread" I say, "Who cares." We play better with a chip on our shoulders anyway.
Too high - Ravens , Steelers , Panthers Too low - Jets , Redskins , Falcons , Jags The Giants being higher than the Jets is laughable. Giants are going to be lucky to win 6 games this season. As bad as our secondary is their o-line is just as bad. They have no TE's or LB's. If Beason goes down (big possibilty) they are screwed. Bucs and Panthers being higher than us is also dumb. Id put us at 15 or 16.
hey junc Fair assessment but we had terrible CB play last year as well, no? Where would you rank Jets by the way?
we did but the media doesn't see a name like Cromartie. it's all about name recognition. If there was a year we were going to have subpar corners this is it w the front 7 we have. My hope is they minimize the corner issues but it is a valid concern. I am very happy w/ what I saw from geno this summer, now let's see that continue into the reg season. I love our RBs, the WRs are upgraded, good TEs, decent OL. I think our O will be pretty good. I think anywhere from 15-20 is fair for a preseason power ranking. I expect we'll end up higher but we'll see.
Agree, totally. I was encouraged to see the continuation from the end of the regular season through the preseason...
21st seems reasonable. There may be a couple of teams ahead that maybe shouldn't be like the Giants but with a proven QB, even if he did have a bad year last year, gives them an edge. TB made some improvements but until Lovie pulls it all together and they show it on the field I am not convinced yet.
We shouldn't be almost on the middle of the pack? Based on what? 8-8 last year? One WR addition? A RB whose best years might be behind him? A backup QB one big hit away from the rocking chair? A still unproven TE? C'mon guys, be honest. This Media Hates Us stuff is getting pretty pathetic. The Jets are ranked exactly where they need to be. Almost in the middle of the NFL pack. They're not elite, they don't suck either. They're not SB material and they are not upper echelon. Honestly, they are mediocre right now and at this point of development, that's where they should be. Idzik is making slow but steady progress. Give the man time and stop rushing shit. Blaming the Media is becoming an unwelcome pastime around here. Almost as bad as blaming the Refs during losses as no one blames the Refs when we win. I guess they only make bad calls when we lose. Of course the Media is the 13th man on the field. Like I said, Pathetic. Show some pride and balls for once. GTFU. Take the ranking for what it is. Not some vendetta dreamed up by the Media to get the Jets.
I agree with all but the Steelers, they are better than the Jets because they have Big Ben. Just because Smith has a year under his belt doesn't mean he'll be better. He doesn't have it between the ears, just like Sanchez.
I don't have a problem with the ranking. I think it is lower than it should be but it's not the usual poorly thought out rationale for trashing the Jets. I'm thinking this is one of those years where the Jets will rise in the rankings rapidly for several weeks and then settle in. I think it could be a 5-1 start that nobody fully believes and the question then becomes whether the Jets can keep it up.
