Can't argue with this at all. I agree competely. While we can't be any worse than last year, we could have also been a ton better. Whether it was resigning Revis, who wanted to come back, signing Davis, Rodgers-Cromartie, anyone. We had chances and he swung and missed. Agree completely, he dropped the ball on this one BAD
We also had a lighter schedule against lower tier qbs.We have the usual Brady (who doesn't scare me anymore but he is still Brady)Peyton,Alex Smith,Cutler,Rodgers,Stafford,Big Ben,Rivers and most of them have serious weapons to throw to.And if anyone of our corners gets injured during the season we are in major trouble. We are paper thin when it comes to depth
Yup. "A source told the Daily News that when Revis knew the Bucs were getting rid of him, he compiled a wish list of where he would like to relocate based on non-economic reasons. The Jets were first. The Patriots were second. The Jets were made aware of Revis’ desire to return, but they were not one of the more than 20 teams that expressed interest in signing him. He never was in a position to compare offers from the Jets and Patriots because Idzik never called Revis’ agents. There was no interest, there was no offer."
Agreed, but you can tell he wanted to come back based on the responses he made in interviews. When asked if he wanted to return, he said things like "there was always a possibility of that" and "they did what they felt they needed to do". He wanted to return here. He even said that he has a profound respect for us, we drafted him, traded up for him, gave him the dream he always wanted as a kid. He had been with us for his entire career. He sincerely sounded like he wanted to be back.
I honestly think that could be a huge possibility. There is one way that Idzik could right the wrong by making fans happy and making the secondary dominant again, and that is resigning Revis. The fan base would love him, the secondary would love him, and our defense would be stacked.
I don't think it'll happen but if it did we would have to make the playoffs this year and show that we could make a SB run with a few improvements.
But the fact remains we knew we had a terrible secondary and that position, along with WR was the most important fix this team needed going into the off season. WR was improved, although I think they also could have done more here but I digress, yet CB was like the Partridge Family Bus(showing my age, I know),PATCHWORK. a mismosh of castoffs and haveneverbeens. We could have really improved this team as a whole, a whole lot better imo, but I still think we are improving so we're heading in the right direction. I just think we could have been further along at this point .
Revis is the only non signing that I was pissed about. Best corner in football for 12million who your head coach loves. Woody johnson was to stubborn to make it happen. Put revis on this team right now and I believe we are a huge threat to everyone on are schedule. At the same time it keeps the pats secondary weak. Now the patriots will be back to playing great defense IMO. As we should all know, revis completely changes a defense and changes how a dc makes calls. Imagine the pass rush we could have with revis locking down a third of the field. We could afford to send the house. Revis-milliner combo with Pryor and AA backing them up with this beast line. Man it was a dream when he was released and it was all crushed lol
Lol yep....it was a sad moment for me when we traded him. I understood the trade but was made at the prior holdout situation where we gave him a band-aid contract but never took that band aid off to replace it with a long term deal. I understand 16mil was to much for a corner and why we traded him. Then we had a chance to bring him back a year later and didn't even make a phone call. To me that was woody telling idzik don't even think about it because I'm not dealing with revis or his agent. If cavs owner could make it happen with Lebron then woody should have been able to put his stubbornness aside. Oh well, we have a solid team and I'm a big believer in geno. I'm just ready to see some football!!!!
I know. I don't even know why people mention Cromartie after the way he played last year. He looked like an old man with a walker out there. Too much emphasis on CB in Jet fandom. I do not believe that Idzik thinks he need shutdown corners to win in his plan. Lots of teams win without them. And by not getting them maybe he is imparting this wisdom to Rex. In future the Jets salary cap will be a more balanced affair.
Keep in mind this Revis "wish list" came out after he was already signed with the pats. Could be excellent strategic move by BB to stir the pot. If you know Revis, he was always going to sign to the highest bidder (as all mercenaries do). It wasn't like he had the Jets "first" bc he wanted to play for the team and fans he started with first. He could have made that much easier years ago. The whole "wish list" is bs; Revis is a whore.
