McIntyre and Gates were hold the fort kind of guys who were replaced by younger players with higher upside. If the competition in training camp is even or only slightly in favor of the vet you need to go with the rookie who has a chance at a higher ceiling.
Yeah, Reilly and Enunwa could probably do their jobs about as well as McIntyre and Gates could, only the former pair has a chance to improve in the future what with their being rookies and all, while enough time has passed that we can assume the latter won't get much better. Its really a lateral move with potential upside. besides Gates and McIntyre were nothing special, its no great loss. I for one want to see if Reilly can become our replacement for Pace one day, and am glad that he made the squad.
Apparently there are some fans here who didn't bother watching the Jets much last season, missing Clyde Gates production in the regular season. Dude can play, period. Quincy Enunwa, on the other hand, is a 6th round pick who has shown nothing so far, not even a glimpse. Barely a practice squad candidate. .... Smart Idzik, real smart. smh ...keeping Reilly and George was OK, keeping Enunwa and IK Enumwapalasioiuweroiue (or whatever his name is) were head scratchers.
Dude I think you're on to something. Clyde Gates might actually be the next Megatron. And here we all thought it was Hill who would be the next Calvin Johnson. It was Gates all along!!
Gates is small and his performance last season was not impressive. We have better small receivers with Kerley and Saunders. Enunwa is way bigger. If he develops well he can be a great big WR for us. He just needs some more experience. He is also very tough and I've never seen a WR that embraces contact as much as him. Even if he flames out at wideout he has potential to be converted to safety.
hi clyde, thanks for posting here. good luck wherever you end up signing. p.s. thanks for costing us the patriots game last year. that drop in the end zone was perfect
… you're joking right? We're talking about Clyde Gates right? Wasn't this the same gates that couldn't grab a TD vs NE? the guy that had a constant case of the dropsies? i mean he earned his post in the PS last season, i won't deny that, but seriously this offense wasn't exactly missing his production before the got hurt...
Who is your player of the game for Jets at Eagles? WR Clyde Gates 33% S Rontez Miles 12% LB Jeremiah George 16% TE Chris Pantale 21% RB Daryl Richardson 19% 290 Total Votes http://www.newyorkjets.com/ Apparently, for John Idzik preseason performance means nothing.
Gates had his chance to step up last year when we had no other options and he failed miserably. Off the top my head is the Pats loss when he had drop after drop including the TD. His fate was sealed when Idzik signed Decker and drafted 3 WRs.
Lmao You're basing your argument on fan votes for game MVP in a preseason game against the 2's and 3's?! Hahahahahhahahahaa!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!
Are you sure it was Gates who had the drop at NE? I don't remember that....I thought it was Stephen Hill, or somebody else. ... in fact, I don't remember any drops by Gates - you sure you're not mistaking him for Hill? Gates had pretty decent production for a terrible offense last year; to me, he stood out a little bit. Not big time production of course, but he made some pretty nice plays for us as I recall.
Mrs. Gates, I'm sorry your son was cut. I'm sure he will catch on somewhere else in the league. Yours truly, jets fans.
Preseason games are for guys like Enunwa and Gates to prove they deserve to make the team. That's what those games are supposed to be all about. Enunwa had no catches, and Gates had several including a long TD grab ... but let's just ignore all that ... why do they even bother playing the games then?!?!
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/shutd...rk-jets-sloppy-game-turns-040506478--nfl.html gates is nothing. if we miss him we are screwed anyway
