You can tell these cuts are all Idzik. Cutting Hill, keep Enunwa? Keep IK and Reily, cutting McIntrye,? McIntrye didn't even play on Thursday, clearly Rex thought he was safe. I try not to get this upset over final 53 man cuts, because a lot of these players won't even make it to tomorrow. And even more of them won't be impact players. But it's still annoying to see Idzik keeping "his" players, over players that are better (I think are better anyway).

    OFFENSE

    Quarterbacks (2)
    Geno Smith & Mike Vick
Analysis: With Vick’s arrival, the Jets are in excellent shape if Geno Smith struggles or goes down to injury. Many teams don’t keep three anymore and Simms — days after QB coach David Lee said had improved as much as any player he could remember coaching — could find a new home. Both Simms and Tajh Boyd, a sixth-rounder from Clemson, are practice squad eligible.

    Running Backs (4)
Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, Bilal Powell & Tommy Bohanon

Analysis: The Jets decide to stick with their three-headed monster at RB along with their lead blocker in Bohanon. Former Ram Daryl Richardson had a good camp and flashed against the Eagles, but the Green & White might have the best RB depth in football.

    Wide Receivers (7)
Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley, David Nelson, Greg Salas, Jalen Saunders, Saalim Hakim & Quincy Enunwa
Analysis: Stephen Hill had the prototypical size and speed combination for a receiver, but the 2012 second-round pick never was able to fully turn the corner. In 23 games with the Jets, Hill finished with 45 receptions for 594 yards and four TDs. Salas earned the coaching staff’s trust, making plays at practice and games while showcasing good hands and solid route running. Saunders and Hakim get over the top with their special teams value. Enunwa, a 6’2”, 225-pounder from Nebraska, has an NFL body and made some eye-popping plays at Cortland.

    Tight Ends (3)
Jeff Cumberland, Jace Amaro & Zach Sudfeld
    Analysis:
Wayne Chrebet told me Wednesday that the Jets haven’t had this kind of talent at tight end in long time. Hopefully Jeff Cumberland won’t be slowed early this season by that nagging Achilles injury.

    Centers (2)
    Nick Mangold & Dalton Freeman
    Analysis:
Freeman earns the right to back up Mangold as the Jets released veteran OL Caleb Schlauderaff.

    Guards (4)

Willie Colon, Brian Winters, Oday Aboushi & Dakota Dozier
Analysis: Aboushi can kick out to a tackle if needed and the Virginia product had a tremendous offseason on the interior. Dozier, who was a tackle at Furman, shows a lot of promise at guard. He also got some snaps at center at camp.

    Tackles (3)
D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Breno Giacomini & Ben Ijalana

    Analysis:
The durability of Ferguson has been incredible and Ijalana will back him up at LT.

    DEFENSE

    Defensive Ends (3)
Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson & Leger Douzable
Analysis: Mo & Shelly are stars while Douz is an awfully valuable reserve.

    Defensive Tackles (3)
Damon ‘Snacks’ Harrison, Kenrick Ellis & T.J. Barnes
    Analysis:
How ‘bout big T.J. Barnes? After being a member of the practice squad last season, this 6’7” monster dropped a lot of weight and had a heck of a camp.

    Inside Linebackers (4)
David Harris, Demario Davis, Nick Bellore & Jeremiah George
    Analysis:
The Jets received a big scare the other night when Bellore, a key special teams performer and reserve, went down with a calf injury against the Eagles. A.J. Edds made a good run at the roster, but the Green & White stick with George, ith the speedy rookie from Iowa State.

    Outside Linebackers (5)
Calvin Pace, Quinton Coples, Jason Babin, Ikemefuna Chinedum Enemkpali & Trevor Reilly
    Analysis:
The Jets opt for youth over veteran Garrett McIntyre. Coach Ryan praised the effort of Reilly, a seventh-round pick from Utah, after watching the Eagles film. Enemkpali, who missed the club’s final two preseason games with a foot injury, was all over the field in the first two preseason games. He even blocked a punt against the Bengals. Antwan Barnes is

    Cornerbacks (6)
Dee Milliner, Antonio Allen, Darrin Walls, Kyle Wilson, Ellis Lankster & LeQuan Lewis
    (RookieDexter McDougle is on IR)
    Analysis:
The Dimitri Patterson saga comes to an end. If Allen passes concussion protocol, will Double A and Walls start on the outside against the Raiders? Milliner remains day-to-day with the ankle injury and the Jets will need their No. 1 CB in Week 2 against the Packers. Walls had a strong camp and carried it over to game action with an INT against the Bengals and solid play vs. the Giants. Lewis, who joined the club a couple of weeks ago, has experienced ups and downs. But he provides special teams value as well. Rookie Brandon Dixon could be a practice squad target.

    Safeties (4)

Calvin Pryor, Dawan Landry, Jaiquawn Jarrett & Josh Bush
Analysis: Antonio Allen’s versatility makes this group five. Landry told me late Thursday night that this is the deepest safety group he has been a member of in his nine-year career. Bush holds off a challenge from a hard-charging Miles.

    Special Teams (3)
Nick Folk, Ryan Quigley & Tanner Purdum
    Analysis:
    Chalk.

    Note:
OLB Antawn Barnes is on the Reserve/PUP list.

you guys know that every single coach and the GM get together to discuss cuts. the whole process takes hours. it's not "idzik's cuts" or "rex's cuts"

Also, keeping 9 O-lineman is just draining this team of depth in other areas.

Of course, but there are obviously going to be disagreements. And when there are, who wins? The GM.

This... Idzik is certainly putting HIS stamp on the team. Rex at this point can only work with the talent he's being given. This will be one helluva challenge for Rex as after all these changes from the old regime to the new, only one chair is left. Rex's chair.

I kind of get the feeling McIntyre could be back after week 1, and maybe Simms. Sounds like one of those "handshake agreements" to come back without a guaranteed salary for '14 some vets are forced into. Of course, they could get picked up by another team, but low enough players on the totem pole to take the chance. That's jmo.

A lot of the rookies made the 53. I agree - they are younger with more upside, and the vets didn't really separate themselves in the competition. Maybe Enunwa catches on late and helps us.

These cuts should all be Idzik, he is the GM after all. Hill sucks, and McIntrye didn't separate himself from the competition.

Helluva gamble by Idzik. Vick is one hard hit away from the IRL and Simms was serviceable. I guess they need the roster spot for..... CB?

i like what he did. you find starters at the bottom of the roster by keeping it turning over. hill and mcintrye have shown their ceilings and its nothing special or in hill's case dreadful.

He will end up on the PS. We will be adding at least one guy on waivers and the most likely casualty would be Enunwa. I'm a huge fan of his but no sense in having him as the 7th guy over an upgrade at CB or somewhere else
