Figured we could use a thread to post all of today's cuts in. So far, according to Seth Walder of NYDN, Daryl Richardson will be cut. Not a fan of this.
One is coming off knee surgery and has a buttload of miles on his tires and one can't stay healthy for 16 game ever. I understand he was the 4th best back on the roster but insurance would have been nice.
It makes sense to carry three. RBs are a dime a dozen on the FA market. If guys go down, finding a replacement will be easy.
Like I've said, running backs are devalued in this league. They probably need to hold extra spot for a CB, LB or WR. We can always pick one up later
I mean I'm fine with keeping three. I understand it. Insurance would just be smart given the health issues our top two backs have. Now if we keep Green as the insurance while cutting Richardson... that's another story. That guy sucks out loud.
@BrianCoz: LB A.J. Edds has been released by the Jets, according to a source. #nyj Damn... guy had a really strong summer.
If this is true it's an interesting decision by the Jets. CJ and Powell are both durable and the Jets will essentially be saying that they don't see a situation in which Richardson will play much this year. That's understandable, although if CJ goes down they will wish they had kept the other back who can catch a pass out of the backfield and take it to the house.
My guess is if our top backs get hurt, Richardson, Andre Brown, mikes leshore or someone else can be picked up and plugged in with Bilal. CJ is quite durable though so I'm not concerned. The issue is if our backs stay healthy, Richardson is closed to useless
I know everyone wanted to keep richardson but they weren't going to keep 4 rb's. Its either 6 dl so they can hold onto barnes or 7 wr because they want to stretch out the hill experiment
Plenty of RBs on the market, they could be looking at making an upgrade that can contribute on special teams. RG3's back-mate from college, Lache Seastrunk was cut today as well. He has potential and he's worth stashing.
Yeah, there's a real argument for holding onto Barnes who will likely not clear waivers if he's released. I can see the argument for keeping just 3 backs, I just think given the Jets woes on offense it might be short-sighted. Richardson is a fairly talented RB with speed. It's not like anybody the Jets have on hand is a guarantee to be productive into 2015. Powell winds up going FA with the Jets looking for a chip in the comp pick game, Ivory is always fragile and CJ is 30 next year. Not sure I'd let Richardson go *if* the Jets think he might make a meaningful contribution down the road. If the Jets think they have a DL who needs a little seasoning and will be a big factor a year or two down the road it is a no-brainer though. DL >>> RB in the NFL.
Richardson cut is interesting as most wanted to keep him, me too, but really with CJ2K, Ivory and Powell, he would never be used ever. Heck, Powell will probably never get used. Good problem to have, but I would have liked Richardson as injury depth.
I think you have to hold onto Barnes. There's no way that guy clears waivers. He reminds me a little bit of Douzable and Snacks in the sense that he's not ready for the rotation yet, but he's worth holding onto because you can just see it in him that he will be something maybe a year or two down the line. Back to Richardson for one second, if they keep Stephen Hill and cut Darryl Richardson then this whole "competition" mantra has been complete bullshit. Hill has been outplayed by the competition while Richardson rose above it. I understand it's a numbers game but come on...
