How could you possible say our secondary was worse last year? Plus we have to face the six best passing QBs in the NFL, they will carve up our secondary and serve them for dinner. The GM and HC are to blame for the sad state of the team. The GM passed an Rogers-Cromartie, Antonio Cromartie, Revis and every other CB available, and Rex has drafted all Defense with the last six 1st round picks. So when our Defense is not even in the top half of the NFL this year, they will be to blame and should be fired. We may have a great DL, but the teams we will face don't run the ball, and as good as the DL may be, they can't get a sack.
Here's the thing. Last year Milliner was rookie toast for most of the season. This year he's going to be sophomore squash. And the safeties are going to be worse because Pryor is just some invention of Jets homers and actually is going to suck. And all of those guys who got some experience last year are going to be worse this year as a result of it. And we had a Pro Bowl CB in Cromartie who isn't here any more and played very well last season. And nobody likes me everybody hates me I'm going to eat some worms. That's the position most of the anti posters are effectively taking. Many of them are just trolls not worth responding to individually and here with an agenda to hate on the Jets.
getting rid of cromartie was addition by subtraction and we added a big time talent in pryor. Milliner was a much better player at the end of least year than the beginning
Milliner was suppose to be a BIG time talent last year and was benched three times. There is no telling how Pryor will be. Cromartie would still be the best CB on this team and was a good leader. Milliner is hurt and will be torched a lot in the first seven weeks when he is facing to WR and great QBs. Your logic is very flawed and if you truly believe what you say there is no point in even reading your posts.
Very few rookie CBs are expecting to be BIG time talents in their first year. If you expected that, then that's your own fault. And if we don't know what Pryor will be, why are we acting like he will be bad? If we don't know what he will be, you don't know what he will be. Your logic is very flawed as well.
as if there's a point in reading your retarded shit? lolz cromartie was a huge problem for us last year partly because rex was way too confident in his obvious decline in play.
Rarely, does any prognosticator get it right when predicting the Jets. Over their history, the Jets have defied dire predictions, while failing to meet unrealistically positive predictions. IIRC, a lot of the Jets' hate that flows so freely from the media today started with Jimmy the Greek's venom after he predicted a Super Bowl for them in '79 or '83, that was (obviously) never realized. (Anybody remember this?) I'll take a 5-11 prediction from SI (given the perfunctory thought presumably put into it) over a more positive prediction any day.
The Jets media problem stems from a single factor. They play in a 2 team territory and they have been the less successful team. The Giants wanted the Jets to move out of town when the NFL-AFL merger occurred and were rebuffed by Werblin and ultimately by the NFL establishment and had to settle for a two team environment. Since then the Giants have been more successful and the Jets have been used as a foil by local media to differentiate and sell. The national media picks up the garbage that the local media spews and runs with it. Over time there has been damage done to the Jets reputation and standing. This all makes the media completely unreadable for all things Jets at this point. There are a few writers who manage to balance coverage well but most of the writers are just doing what will sell and a lot of the time that is to trash the Jets.
Our secondary is gonna cause us to lose some games we should have won there's no doubt,No one expected us to beat the Falcons,Saints,And the Pats (should have been twice) last season so I expect some surprise wins again,I still say 10-6
I agree with all of your points and I think you are correct from the perspective of a general overview. And I think that the early Titan failure was due in no small part to the media's lack of support. But with the advent of Namath, the Jets went toe to toe with the Giants. I think that the Giants' "15 years of lousy football" was fueled by stupid things they did to keep up with the Jets (e.g., trading the top-draft picks to the Vikings for Tarkenton, which built a foundation for the Vikes for the next ten years). The Jets got a lot of mileage out of SBIII. Although they basically sucked between 1970 - 1977, my recollection is that they got more of a pass than the Giants did during that time, based mostly on the residual from the Super Bowl win. Around the time the SBIII wore off (1978) they posted an unexpected 8-8 season, lead by some bright young stars including an heir apparent QB from Alabama ( Todd). The next few years were disappointing, as they did not live up to Super Bowl expectations, and I thought I recalled them incurring the wrath of Jimmy the Greek, ( who may have had a hard-on for them since '68 - remember he's the one who set the 18 point price). I thought his anger was more personal than the simple pro-Giant crap that you accurately point out in your post, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, while I completely agree with your assessment, I don't think that point of view became sickeningly prevalent until the mid-80s. I think the "Giants good - Jets bad" mantra started then (remember the famous Gastineau-Taylor SI cover) and has really never gone away since. Today it has morphed into "Giants classy, purveyors of all things holy - Jets trashy. Oh well.
With a bit of luck, yes. 10-6 is a reasonable projection. I believe that Rex is going to adapt to his personnel and the whole will be greater than the sum of the parts.
If the Secondary holds up and the front 7 can generate pressure without having to blitz all the time then I think the offense is good enough for the Jets to win 10-11 games this year IF the defense is a top 10 defense in terms of points allowed. However, if the secondary is getting eviscerated by the elite passing attacks we face this year on our schedule then 3-13 or 4-12 is possible, but 5-11 is more likely. If the Jets come out of the gate slow and it takes time for the defense to settle in the Jets will be done by week 10. If they come out slow they could easily find themselves 1-6 by the end of week 7.
Rex's teams don't do this. 2009: 4-3 after 7, 2010: 5-2 after 7, 2011: 4-3 after 7, 2012: 3-4 after 7, 2013: 4-3 after 7. He's one of the most consistent coaches in the NFL in terms of keeping things respectable early on.
its so bad because allen, milliner, walls, and esepcially wilson are all terrible football players. our defensive line is elite, but that can only get you so far when the back 7 is so weak. and when you dont have an offense that can keep the defense off the field. those dlineman get tired when they are constantly on the field
Great Post In reviewing many of my own post from 2 or 3 months ago I was entrenched in the Darkside with Geno leading this team. Since then I have seen enough good offense to believe that while not a home run hitter Smith can play smart and win games for us. He will definitely show some improvement and knows what is expected from him. Idzik will pull a rabbit out of his hat to improve the secondary and start by letting the head cases (Patterson) go. Milliner gets better, Walls and Langster get coached up and if not, do not need them to score points. Pointless with a week to go to second guess Idzik even if his draft left a lot to be desired. Go JETS!
I go back in Jets history as long as you do 45 and I thought your summation of things was impressive. On the eve of another season, I will only hope for the best since Idzik has hardly prepared us for the worst lol. The Jet offense has potential so maybe we win some shootouts? Hehe...........
