How big of a game does Stephen Hill need this thursday to keep his job. According to reports, his job is not secure, but he is not a guaranteed cut either.

Reports have said that his status is up in the air depending on the WR battle this thursday.

So I ask....how much do you think he has to show to stick around.

NOT how much YOU want to see...how much you think the coaches will need to see to keep him.

But please below....also say how much you personally want to see to feel good about keeping him.

The good thing for Hill is that he has Simms throwing for most of the game. I've seen plenty of dungminds state matter of factly that Simms is nothing but a camp body, but the QB coach Lee stated that he's special. He went on about him. He's not a camp body, he's guy that could contend for the positron without team politics.

Hill basically needs to get past second and third tier defenders and he needs to be able to rein in speed passes from Simms. In stride. Out of breaks. Back shoulder. Simms can make every throw on the field.

Hill needs to show that he's able to catch them. And he needs to confidently run some routes.

Dude's on the clock no matter what certain people say.

If preseason and his previous two years here have shown the coaching staff and front office anything it shouldn't matter; his fate should be sealed.

I think he's too dumb to succeed at any position in football. He's evidently as dumb as a stump. Even if he could stay with WRs on routes, he'd be like Wilson and never turn his head around or get his hands in there. If he tried to tackle, he'd bruise his vagina. I think it's time to kick his ass to the curb.

There is one position I think he could probably handle very well...tackling dummy.

I seriously doubt its gonna come down to one preseason game against backups and third stringers,They have already made up there mind about him behind the scenes. My gut feeling is we keep him as WR #6 or 7 if we end up keeping 7.I feel he should be cut and maybe he would if we had more depth

Idzik got lucky that the trade up for Lee didn't work out. Lee has looked very pedestrian so far.

    7 catches, 100+ yards, 1 TD... Only 3 drops.

he needs to look like the best player on the field considering what he will be lining up against. he has used up all his potential,he has 1 last chance to show talent. there is really no room for him at the bottom of the depth chart. he can't be wr4,its wr2 or cut

I try and imagine how an unknown kid from a small school gets drafted. It probably goes like this: Kid creates a buzz withing his own team with his playing ability. One of his position coaches call up a buddy who's on the Saints scout team. Saint's scout says "Thanks...can you send me a bio, some film maybe?" and sure enough, a bio with some film arrives and sits on the pile until said scout looks it over. If impressed, said scout sends the kids name up the food chain (along with a hundred other no-names that have been pointed out to other low level scouts). Someone higher up looks over the bios, likes a few, and sends the scout out to watch the kid in a real game, fill out a sheet, and send it back up the ladder.

In the end, the higher ups probably have 20-30 no-names they've looked at and decide on 3 or 4 of them come draft day. And voila, Marques Colston gets drafted by the Saints in the 7th round.

So in the end, the lower tier guys a team selects are based on their connections throughout the sport. These kids aren't 'found' by a scout, they're names are given up to a scout by their own HC or position coach.

So a lot of who we draft in rounds 4-7 depends on who our connections and friends are in the college ranks. That's how the Giants end up with a Victor Cruze while the Jets never even heard of him.

Btw the NFL all around is horrible at talent evaluation at the moment. Just absolutely horrible. Look at the bust rate of first round picks; it's embarrassing. Franchises are stocked to the bone with decision makers that have zero business sense. This applies to the draft and even to players already on the team. Some teams are worse than others, Jaguars come to my mind as the worst. The league is guided by a media-hyped groupthink. This is why Blaine Gabbert and Blake Bortles become top ten picks and Teddy Bridgewater falls to the second round. This is why Jacquizz Rodgers keeps getting fed carries for no gains all season while Antone Smith takes 3 of his 5 carries for 38 or more yards and isn't given anymore carries all season. This is why guys like Nick Foles need the stars to align for them before their talent is appreciated. For every Nick Foles story there are ten Antone Smiths. I highly disagree with the notion in the previous posts that statistical production is important while measurables are not. They are both important and need to be combined along with actually watching the players technique in order to make a worthy prediction of their NFL prospects. NFL teams more than any other sport would benefit from embracing moneyball-type player evaluation models.

He will be going against Eagles 3rd and 4th team guys. Jerry Rice numbers won't mean anything at this point.

Lets not forget this is the same team to keep Vernon Gholston and Vlad Duccasse one season too long.

Hill isnt going anywhere. Not because he deserves a roster spot , but because he was a high pick and to release him would be to admit failure.

He might not play a down for us this year but he will make the final 53. Probably get released or traded a couple weeks into the season if he continues to blow.
