It's very frustrating to see our franchise look as if they're simply going to allow for this to be O.K. without any repercussions for his actions. If it really was due to disputes over the depth chart he should be cut immediately regardless of our corner problems. That's disgusting for a professional NFL player of 10 years to walk out on the job like that and miss a game preseason or not. It's not like he missed a day of practice. If I'm his teammate I have a hard time accepting him back into that locker room.
DP would have 100% made this team, or whichever team he would have signed with had it not been the Jets. My point is that your argument is completely flawed. Cro has been a better CB in his career, only an idiot would say he hasn't. That is completely irrelevant to last year and this year, because the past is the past.
I don't disagree in principle, but in practice it often depends on how needed you are. If you occupy a unique niche, or have specialized knowledge, some things can be "forgiven". The quotation marks because I'd not forget that you screwed me over by no call & no show, I'd start working toward replacing you.
Beyond type of injury there is an assessment that a player is generally fragile. Patterson is that kind of player. Was anyone really surpised that he did not make it through the pre-season without spending time off the field? I wasn't.
I was not surprised, but it's shit luck that Milliner, McDougle and Allen all are injured as well. You can't really plan for for your 5 top choices for CB are all injured. Patterson is the only one of all those choices who is genuinely considered "injury prone." If we had Cro instead of Patterson there's no guarantee he wouldn't suffer an injury as well, and even if he didn't if he's expected to be as good as last year due to the type of hampering injury he has, he would still be a bottom of the league CB. On top of that, there's still a chance Patterson will play in the regular season.
McDougle had a season ending injury last year, and had his second a few weeks into camp. Whether that makes him "injury prone" is semantics. He was questionable imo as a draft pick. Even Milliner has had injury problems. I would not say the same about Allen. Injuries are part of the game, but it does seem to me like the Jets entered the off season with three Cb's who had injury histories. Patterson apparently has missed 33 games in the last three seasons.
McDougle suffered a freak shoulder injury which is unusual, and not usually something you consider as injury prone which is usually lower body. Milliner has had a couple injuries but no more than an average football player.
“@nyjets: Team has suspended CB Dimitri Patterson for remainder of preseason. Add'l terms of discipline will not be disclosed. Eligible to return 9/1”
Dennis Waszak Jr. @DWAZ73 Patterson can return to the team on Monday. #Jets say additional terms of discipline will not be disclosed. 3m Beat Writer
I hate to bring this up, but Idzik might wanna revisit his personality evaluation paradigm. First Goodson goes on a bender, falls asleep in the passenger seat on a NJ interstate in possession of both Weed and an Illegal gun. Then DP takes a unauthorized holiday because, according to the media, he didn't care for his status on the CB depth chart. Sorry, but St. John the Idzik needs to step up his game when it comes to FA's. I understand he's playing the long game instead of the short game but you have to sign FA guys that actually have the character to not only contribute to the team, but live within the rules of the organization. They need to buy into the system no matter where they land within it. It's not about them, it's about the team and the results. Left to me, Patterson walks the plank. If he has a bad 'tude now, how do you get him to buy into Rex's overall vision of the 2014 secondary? Time for this organization to get on the same page and it starts with Idzik. He's the GM and the buck stops there.
Couldn't agree more. The guy can't be trusted if he bolted like that because of what was reported. And if he is suspended that makes that story more likely true because there doesnt seem to be a legit reason as to why he bounced. I would cut him and make an example of him. All we hear about is how close this team has been.....we don't need another malcontent screwing things up, especially one that has zero history with this team and doesnt even have the play to back it up.....and on top of it can't stay healthy. More good would be done to just cut his ass now.
This guy is one of the highest paid guys on the team this year. This punishment reflects poorly on the front office. I hope they restructured his contract or something as additional punishment. The guy is constantly injured and all we've seen of his abilities is the roasting by Colts receivers. They should trot this guy out there on Thursday in my opinion ( at least to see if he would show up)
wonder what was said between him and idzic. then i would make a rational opinion on what i think should have been done
The funniest thing is that we are all basing our responses on Manish Mehta saying Patterson didn't like the pecking order. No one here or in the public know the real reason as to what happened. I can guarantee you that if he was just upset about the pecking order, he would not be suspended only until Monday. There are more details to this than Manish Mehta's dumbass reporting.
In fairness, if he had a good reason, you can bet your ass his agent would be letting everybody and their mother know in an effort to save face. When Idzik says he's trying to decipher Patterson's commitment to the team, you know it's a big problem.
Yeah but then why suspend the guy for a week? Why allow him back on the field on Monday if his heart isn't in it? Why allow him back if he quit on his team like that? I think there is more to this than what the media is spewing. His agent may not be saying anything because it's private and Dimitri has asked him not to.
