Yup. We're talking about New England here. This isn't the Jacksonville Jaguars or some piece of shit franchise that constantly makes mistakes. New England was not trading this guy unless the backup was capable of starting and playing very well. As much as I wish this was a HUGE mistake, no way do I think it was.

I'm almost certain McCourty comes first, but I don't see why both aren't very doable. The Revis deal will actually save cap space as he's currently going to cost 25m in 2015 cap space.

Not a bad trade at all for New England. In fact I'd argue they win that trade

Depends on how Kline/Devey or Connolly fill in as the replacement, but Mankins' was not going to play for New England next season and we would not receive any compensation, now we've cleared cap space early, can frontload some extensions and still have money left to roll over or for emergency contracts, received a middle round pick, and have a TE who showed potential as a receiver in 2013 with 54 catches and 5 TDs.

Personally I'm calling it a win for NE, but, while everyone was very low on Mankins' performance in recent seasons, he was still a very important player.

I don't think he there best anymore. He gave up 11 sacks last season.

Dude who cares? It's probably better if they extend Revis. Once Brady retires, they're likely going to have to rebuild for the first time in over a decade. What better to have an aging cornerback who eats up a good chunk of their much needed salary cap and holds out every other year?

This is a good trade for both teams. The Pats have pretty good depth on their Oline and they need better depth at TE, and Wright is a solid TE prospect if last season is anything to judge by - and letting Mankins go does free up a goodly amount of cap space. The Bucs need a solid vet on their Oline and Mankins is definitely that, and ASJ is apparently filling their need at TE, so Wright was expendable. The 4th rounder just balances out the values.

In short, I hope that all of Boston is afflicted with an intestinal virus that originates in the Pats' locker room.

Belichick and his Rutgers pipeline continues lol He loves RU players. Wright's actually pretty decent and will be another weapon for Brady.

Continuity in offensive line means everything. This is a huge loss to the Pats. Mankins was an anchor there. This should be interesting season for Pats offense, that has little to no weapons and now questionable protection for a fragile aging close to hall of fame qb.

Better to stay ahead of the trend though. I think BB has pushed all the chips in for his defense to be stout and for Gronk to be Gronk the mighty of old. I think deep down he sees his dynasty is crumbling.

If the Patriots have little to no weapons, what does that mean the Jets have?

We have, maybe, the best backfield in the game.

Why do you guys only respond to the negative posts about your team? You're not going to convince anyone who believes otherwise.

Honestly didn't know anything about Wright until this afternoon. Apparently he was a WR in college. 6'4" 220lbs. Sounds more like a Hernandez type TE who lines up in different spots. Had a pretty nice rookie year.

Guess Mankins wasn't up for contract redo, so he was gone. Bucs really need OL help and he will help them on the field and in the lockerroom.

Gonna miss him, but he really wasn't playing up to his contract cost the last couple of years. He's still a monster in the run game and Lovie is a run first coach.

That was my first thought when they said he was from Rutgers. I just hope his numbers from last year aren't a fluke.

Because the Pats fans and Boston are obsessed with NY and their teams. Did you notice how they come out of the woodwork when you mention them? They've been reading TGG all day. TOM BRADY SUCKS. **Gets ready to duck***
