Supposedly, Dimitri Patterson's $3 million becomes guaranteed if he's on the roster on the first day of the season. What happens if he's suspended, but not cut, does the $3 million become guaranteed? Could if be the suspension is all about making sure his $3M is not guaranteed, so that if they cut him in the future they're not on the hook for his entire salary?
The weirdest shit about all this is that he was a starter as of Friday night and he was just quoted saying that he will be 100% ready by the start of the season. He then goes AWOL because he was unhappy? Bitch you were labeled a starter and were just saying you will be ready for the Raiders. Wtf?
I'd hate to agree with Manish, but maybe he stormed out diva-style after seeing the depth chart or something. This almost explains why he was there as late as the team dinner before leaving.
I agree that overpaying for V Davis or bringing in DRC would not have been smart, but I wanted them to bring back Cro as a stop gap. At the very least the guy wanted to be here and on short term contract would've been livable. But who knows if he's even got anything left in the tank. Just a tough situation in the secondary right now...
I wish ppl would calm down about the CB's. It'll be alright, it's not the most important position. Every team has problems right now. Look at the steelers for example, both their starting rb's might be suspended to start the season.
I'm glad the Jets suspended him. I would rather see Sheldon Richardson try to cover Calvin Johnson then have this loser just not showing up for games.
We could of had Revis for 3M? If Patterson doesn't show up by the end of the week - Idzik should look to potentially cut him
Geno has the "young and stupid" excuse. Plus he has looked great in the preseason. Our secondary, who was among the league worst, has managed to look even worse in the preseason.
What gets me is that we all agreed going into this season that this was a young ascending team...but that it might be a year away from being a legit SB contender. What we've seen talent wise is a team that is pretty well stacked sans the #2 corner position & some unknowns centered around the starting QB. So basically people are overreacting & ready to kill the GM b/c he didn't spend presumably reserved money for impact player retention in the future. Every single team has holes. People are throwing a fit over the #2 corner spot. Not even the #1..the #2. As this team matures into next year..we'll have ample cap space & hopefully a better pool of CB talent to upgrade the position..and then we'll truly be stacked while also having a healthy cap.
But that's not even what we were talking about. He was better than Cro last year is what we were talking about.
Shit happens. What if Milliner blossoms into a top 5-10 CB this season? Considering how he has looked since the last month of last year, and the fact that he was a top 10 pick, it's really not outside of the realm of possibility. I'm certainly not banking on but if he does all of this worry about our secondary is so overblown. I'm as interested as everyone else in what's going to happen but it seems as if there's a reasonable chance Milliner will be ready for week 1, and even if he's not it's not like Matt Schaub is going to be scorching our secondary. Hell we might be starting Walls and Allen outside and it could still end up being the best performance of the season by the secondary. I don't know what Patterson's deal is but even if he doesn't have a legitimate reason to have skipped out I promise that's not what will be the downfall of our season.
I'm the troll not making points? I tried to tell you why your opinion is misinformed and you respond making fun of the city I live in. But yes I'm the troll.
I don't think people were expecting Patterson to be the saviour of our secondary. In fact most people (like myself) who think Idzik didn't do enough at CB didn't like the Patterson signing, at least not on the basis of him being our #2 guy. Sign as many CBs as possible to build depth but if he's your number #2 that's not looking good, especially considering his injury issues. Bottom line is that our pass defence sucked last year and other than Pryor (which is a pick I really liked for the record) we have actually gotten worse in that aspect. That's before you even factor in injuries and now the Patterson situation (who likely wasn't going to play the whole season anyway). Injuries happen and you can't blame a GM for a player getting injured, you can blame him for not building enough depth at a position to the point that it reduces the blow. I'm not sure if Milliner will be ready for week 1 but if not we're going to be playing 3/4/5 stringers up against actual starting NFL players. In any position battle that would be bad but 3/4/5 string CB up against starter NFL WRs? That's a disaster waiting to happen.
