What does building longterm have to do with signing a corner in free agency?I'm tired of hearing this bs.You act like we would have signed a corner who was on his deathbed at age 86 or something

Like.....besides Wilk who deserves a big pay day on this team. Sheldon is a long way off from that,Kerleys not getting a pay day,Mangold n Dbrick arent getting anymore huge contracts,Coples doesn't deserve it yet,Geno and other rookies have to play out there rookie contracts.I ask again who besides Wilk right now

Not to mention those "12" draft picks we had that everyone kept talking about. That didn't help anything because so far Pryor and Amaro are the only 2 who look good.

It's extremely important to have the necessary cap-room available to sign your own, not other team's, high-priced FA's. The fact that Idzy seems to be planning for that situation in the near future is very smart. I would much rather be in this situation than getting out-bid for the services of Mo, Sheldon, etc down the road.

Not a hindsight thing at all, I genuinely wished we resigned Cro. Stop gap for sure, but I think putting all of the team's eggs in the Milliner, Dmitri, K-Dub basket was risky as hell. I know projecting injuries is impossible, but a guy like Dmitri already had red flags in the durability dept and I have concerns about Dee missing games going forward...

There must have been some off the field problem with Cro, there was no real advantage to not re-signing him next to signing Patterson. The cost was relative, the injury risk and chance of quality play was too, the biggest advantage with having Cro was that he has already been with the jets in the first place.

the only explanation I have is that Cro must've been something Idzik didn't want around… for some reason.

There will be players in next year's FA class. Rolling over the cap adds to the Jets flexibility in the case that they're enamored with someone. They can also use that to front load contracts for Ferguson and Mangold. The Jets didn't go heavy in FA this year because the FA class blew. Vontae Davis at $10M+? No thank you. DRC, a cornerback who doesn't tackle (see last week against the Giants) and who's openly questioned whether he wants to play football anymore? There's no chance Revis will ever wear Jet green after he held the franchise hostage year after year and proved that he won't honor a contract. People need to get over this offseason.

I don't know the cap front and back, but how would a 1 year deal for Revis this season hurt our cap next year? He would be off the books by February.

Most teams have a good cb and a few other average guys.. shit some even below average... were no different than anyone else at this point. Were just spoiled from our Revis and Cro days.. things will be fine... stop the panic attacks please people. We may not be the best but we have enough depth to go out there and make things happen, esp with our front treating o-lines like the giants o-line last week. Besides,.. what has having elite corners ever gotten us before? Look at san fran...their DBs suck ass and their defense still top 5. Look how we played vs NO last year...we intimidated them by beasting the trenches. We shall see much more of this year.

Kerley could get paid if its a reasonable price. Also depends on the progress of a guy like Saunders as well.

Great point, and when Baltimore won, they had multiple corners on IR that year.

Every time you post, I see your avatar of Joffrey and I see him writing and saying your posts. Your avatar is perfect for you, because if the immature, impulsive, rather stupid Joffrey were a Jets fan, he would say the things you say. How can you possibly not understand the relationship between building for the long term and signing a big contract for a free agent CB this offseason???? Unlike the Tannenbaum years, the Jets are not going to overpay for free agents and be saddled with horrible contracts going forward. Take a look at how Seattle built their team. Who did they pay big bucks to in the offseasons leading to last year's title?. As much as I hate the Pats, take a look at how they handled contracts and free agency in the early 2000's. They did not sign any big name free agents and cut many veterans when they wanted too much money (Lawyer Milloy, for example). Instead, they build a perennial winner by signing mid level free agents who out performed their contracts and kept their own young players at a reasonable price. And they also had a young QB who was not eating up cap space. So, Joffrey, try figuring it out. If you pay Davis $10 million a year, or Revis $12-14 million a year, or DMC $7 million a year, that means the yearly salary is paid beyond just 2014. Get it? Or do you want cut off Idzik's head in an impulsive spoiled fit of anger?

I understand building for longterm but that doesn't justify not signing a corner in free agency,so your saying that our CB situation is ok ?because we saved money?Signing one corner wouldn't have changed the future. This team is hurting right now in the secondary because Idzik thought he was the smartest guy in the room

So when we are 1-6 after our brutal schedule of some of the best QBs in the league then what?Cutler,Stafford,Peyton,Brady,Rodgers,Rivers. You think Walls,Wilson, and Lankster and a always hurt Millner are gonna be able to contain the weapons those guys have?Megatron?Ebron?Marshall and Jeffreys? The Broncos high powered offense,These guys are gonna pick this secondary apart

I forgot. Next year is the last chance the Jets will have to win a SuperBowl. Thanks for clearing that up. Better savor this season.

No one said Super Bowl contender first of all, and second of all you don't win Super Bowls by spending big on FA's. The ONLY time you throw lots of money at the FA pool is when you have a a guy like Peyton Manning in his last couple years, because Manning can work with anybody and be successful.

We have 5 young first round picks starting in our defense, and a smattering of weapons for a developing young QB. Our offensive line is a nice combination of proven vets and younger guys competing for one spot. We are a team that could very legitimately make it to the playoffs this year. When you have such a young team it is unrealistic to expect them to do major damage in the playoffs. This year we will probably get in, and our young core players will feel what the playoffs are like for the first time. Next year, they'll be hungry to get back and ready to make a push for the Super Bowl.
