I know Woody Johnson is hurting because MetLife isn't delivering the cash flows he thought he would get from PSL's and pricing, but a playoff-wannabe team shouldn't be $20 MM under the cap, not with the problems we have.

It's sickening to think we had enough $$$ for both Revis and Cro and our secondary would go from major weakness to major strength -- and not hurt us in future years cap-wise, either.

it has nothing to do w/ cashflow, it has to do w/ building a winner longterm and having cap flexibility. Knowing we have key guys coming up for free agency and waiting to use it on them rather than just spend for the sake of spending.

So if that the case why is Rex coaching for his job?

    ... He's not.

Rex's job completely depends on Woody's outlook. Since Woody likes Rex, Rex's job is secure barring a complete collapse of this team (in my opinion).

Ryan Ruocco just mentiond my name on ESPN Radio because I tweeted him about the cap rollover and that the 21 million in space isnt exactly as cut and dry as it looks.

    Kinda feel famous.

and you know this how? didn't we hear his job was on the line last year if he didn't reach the playoffs?

this team has been vastly improved w/o compromising the cap. we have a playoff caliber team.

Big pay days are coming for certain players. It's good to be prepared.

    Can you elaborate ?

I can't recall any Super Bowl contender being this below the cap.

    Honestly, I'm not totally sure.

I just know that the salary cap operates on like a 4 year cycle or something like that. This 21 million will roll over into next year giving the Jets like 40 or 50 million, which is big for re-signing Wilkerson/Harrison/Kerley.

I wish I understood the cap as well as some, but its not like we have 21 million in space, and its just going to go to waste at the end of the year.

Every time the Jets do anything, my reaction is always Mrs. Garrison from South Park yelling, "RETARD ALERT."

Only within the Jets fanbase could future cap management and preservation be so heavily scrutinized. Never change guys, never change.

Mo Wilk is going to eat up a chunk of the cap. $20mm isn't taking into account re-signing people like him.

I also read that you get to rollover something like half of your cap space into the next year so it's actually a pretty viable strategy for a team that's one year away and has big contracts coming up. By waiting until next year to extend Wilkerson we'd get to roll over $10M and make at least one impact signing depending on where it's needed for next year with that rollover.

The rash of early secondary injuries sucks but it can and does happen to any team and isn't foreseeable during FA. The team should be a playoff contender with an outside shot of getting hot late if Geno turns out to be a franchise QB, and that's good enough with a 2nd year 2nd round QB. Better to stock up resources for when it really matters 1-3 years from now.

I would think every team would love to have this kinda money/talent on their roster.. is this a bad thing? sounds like a bright future to me!
