EJ Manuel has just been brutal this preseason and there's a lot of talent around him. He didn't impress me much last year (I know he lit up the Jets the second game but so did Fitzpatrick/Locker/Dalton and a lot of others). Has anyone else seen this guy try to complete the forward pass? Only completions are checkdowns. If Geno turns out to be the real deal that makes it look much worse. Anyone else see this guy play?
Was never a huge fan of EJ Manuel going back to college. He plays far too conservative, and he's very not an accurate QB.
This was the EJ Manuel I saw at Florida St and the reason why I could not believe why some people would take this guy over Geno Smith. So what if he "leads"? Some players lead by example, not everyone has to be a RAH RAH type of guy. Just makes me hate Nolan Nawrocki so much about his Anti Geno Smith garbage leading up to last year's draft. He spoke up a storm about EJ Manuel but Geno Smith? "Lazy, can't lead, pouts all the time on the sidelines, can't read opposing defenses".
You seem to be right. He has a pick (should've had at least one more), a fumble, and has overthrown/thrown multiple passes in this game vs TB so far. The crowd has been booing him too so it's not like I'm looking at this with my green shades on.
What hurt EJ is he missed games and thus missed valuable and important game experience that you can't teach on the sidelines. Geno took his bumps and bruises but he learned on the run the hardest way possible. I like that. But it also gave EJ Manuel the out by the critics that Geno never got leading up to this season as far as which 2nd year signal caller will have the better future.
Going back I didn't want any of the QBs from that draft - but since we ended up doing so, I am glad it was Geno. Wasn't a huge fan of him coming out of college but he's shown the ability to bounce back and improve along the way.
Its not the end of the world for Manuel, I think in a better offensive system besides what Hackett is doing, he can be useful. The problem is they did not pimp out Thad Lewis enough to make him push Manuel for the starting gig when Thad Lewis may very well be the better player right now for the system.
During that college season, I was always a huge fan of Geno, but never cared much for Manuel until the draft process got around. Then I would have been ok with drafting him actually, but Geno is always who I wanted, and I'm glad we have him.
Fitzpatrick did well against the Jets only once in his entire career, for the record. Manuel has never looked good in his NFL career so far. Nothing to show he even has promise at this point.
1. We just had new turf put on the field and the players are still getting used to it. That alone was responsible for the lone interception (nice pass, Chandler just fell down) and multiple incompletions. 2. Ej has shown he is capable of doing what he needs to do. His accuracy is there with players he if more familiar with (Woods, Goodwin) He did go 10 for 10 in the second half on 2 possesions against a mixture of Tampa's starters/2nd string. 3. He is still adjusting (just like any QB with new WR'S) and getting chemistry with Mike Williams and Watkins. It takes a while to get used to each players speed and timing on routes. 4. Glenn has not been in the lineup, we have been shuffling offensive lineman. Hard to make quick reads with immediate pressure along with the vanilla playcalling. 5. Our defense is awesome.
First bolded statement - Ill give him some leeway there just not a whole lot. Blaming poor decision making on new turf is like blaming the refs for missing a call, shit happens Second - Good valid point but qb's have to deal with pressure in this league, deal with so so o-lines. All the good ones do it, they make their o-line work. 3rd - The same d that let tampa put up 24 points before halftime yesterday???
He sucks. They just haven't found out yet. He looks like he did at Florida St. so underwealming. At least if Geno Smith sucks we can and will pull him for Vick. They'll be calling for Jeff Tuel (hahaha) in Buffalo Mid-October when they get so tired of his check downs and accuracy (or lack thereof) and the realization that they went all in on a QB that is terrible and won't have a top 10 draft pick to say for it.
Someone better let the Bucs know that they shouldn't have completed 78% of their passes since there is new turf put in and they will need to get used to it. I guess comments such as yours are to be expected, Love Canal must still be causing birth defects up there.
I dont think he's gonna last. I was looking forward to him vs geno twice a year along with watkins vs milliner, but honestly i dont see buffalo sticking with EJ, their back ups are better
The Dline is excellent but let's not pretend that they're not gonna miss Kiko and Byrd. I recall Bills fans making excuses for Geno shredding their defense in the first game because Byrd wasn't there. What's it gonna look like for the 16 games? Replacing Pettine with Schwartz is a massive downgrade. While I hate Pettine and think he's a rat faced bitch he turned around that defense. Schwartz will be switching to a 4-3 despite the success the Bills had in the 3-4 and he never put together even a competent defense for the Lions.
