Tel-Ra did NFL highlights in the 50s and 60s. I get old films from two private citizens but unfortunately can't note them here publically or privately. Furthermore, I don't make copies myself to trade to other people. (Not that you asked, but I am noting that for anyone else reading and wondering.) You can get old stuff at www.raresportsfilms.com. I just looked this morning and they have the 1961 Eagles highlight film. That will have the McDonald game-winner vs Washington. There is also a lot of stuff from the 1950s. Anything that says "Time for Football" is really good based on what I have seen thus far. The 10/29/61 highlight show I have is either titled "Time for Football" or "This Week in Football". I can't quite recall. It has at least 15 plays from every game played that day. Another way to get old films is directly from NFL Films but last time I checked most films cost $50. The reason for this is that, and I heard this directly from an employee, is that someone has to go down to the archives, find the film, copy it to DVD and then mail it. It will be made specifically for you. In other words, the Week 7 1973 Game of the Week film is not sitting on a shelf just waiting for somebody to order it. NFL Films' best era was 1968-84. Any film from that era is bound to be enjoyable.

As long as the technical quality is fine, I would recommend all of those films. Not that I have seen any, but I have seen others of the same era and from the same producers.
Something's wrong here. Is this really at Shea? The angle would make it the rightfield corner of the endzone and the buildings beyond are too tall for anything in junkyard city. Also, the home team would be listed second on the scoreboard. What team is that, anyway? Houston, maybe?
The opponent is the Oilers. #80 is Gary Cutsinger. The Jets won 52-13. The location is Shea Stadium. That is the right field portion of the stadium that we see there. Also, in the AFL all home teams wore colored jerseys.
Thanks. Looked it up - Joe was only 12/31 but had 283 yds and 5 TDs - the good old days. Those buildings behind the parking lot must have been knocked down before I spent so much time there in the seventies. Anybody else remember the home team listed first on the scoreboard anywhere?

The CB in the photo is Bobby Jancik. Don Maynard burned him twice for touchdowns that day. After the game, Jancik had this to say about Namath- "On long bombs he doesn't wind up like most quarterbacks do. His motion is about the same for a 10-yard pass as it is for 60 and it's deceptive as hell."

Amen, the guy was a total winner on and off the field. Smart as a whip and could play action fake like it was nobody's business. When I think of a healthy Pennington QB'ing some of our vintages from other years I can only think ruefully "hmmm, what if?"
Chad's arm wasn't bad pre first shoulder injury. It wasn't Elway but he had a good enough arm. it's a shame he hurt that shoulder over and over again. could have been a great one.
