I use the ignore feature, and on the whole it is a good one, primarily because it saves me even the need to peruse a post by people I have previously determined are worthless posters. I don't even have to see that it's them that posted. So that's a clear benefit. But the troll-like are really posting for the approval of other posters, and of course my putting some troll on ignore does not prevent him from following my posts with troll-like personal attacks. Even if they know i don't read their post, I am not the intended audience. How much or little this dynamic can become a problem will depend. So far I have not thought it to be a problem. But I think it could become one. In short the ignore feature is a good one I benefit from using, but it's probably not a totally effective remedy.
I personally think its funny and one of my favorite parts of this board - this board has been great over the years for in your face, ball busting entertainment. I hate message boards with harmony and compromise. But that's just me. I hate the attention whores, the people that brag about putting others on ignore, and the people that can't take a joke/criticism. I think we all need to stop taking ourselves so seriously. Just my take, if you don't like it well FUCK YOU. Just kidding, no more attacks. just put me on ignore then!
Remember that dick sg3/Mitch Dumstein? He infected both this board and JI. Would brag about putting posters on ignore then continue to respond directly to their posts. What a dick. _
It's good to see posters noticing bad trends and self policing. That's what makes a forum truly great and long lived. Kudos folks! Now lets put it to practice...
I have everyone on ignore, since I know more than anyone else & it makes it easier to hear myself reading myself.
See I am a "Lulz farmer", I come to this forum for the laughs and the entertainment. This forum gives me plenty of entertainment, the arrival of Jstokes was a complete blessing, the guy has delivered the lulz, hours and hours of entertaiment all for free. Thanks Jstokes & friends.
I totally disagree. I put people on ignore who have nothing worth saying, and it saves me the trouble of having to first see who it is, and then scroll down to the next post. It adds efficiency. What is wrong with that?
Yea I look at it as a filter. I'm not interested in reading some things that are regularly posted so I filter them out.
Great point. I don't know about the rest of you plebs but I'm too busy making deals to waste any of my precious time scrolling my mouse wheel or reading words. It's just not efficient. Especially since TGG is totally serious business and not something I look at to kill time or avoid doing work.
That is very weak sarcasm. From my point of view, there are regular posters here who quite simply are not worth reading. Why it would bother you that I ignore them says more about you than me.
It doesn't bother me that you ignore them, it bothers me that you couch your real reason for doing so behind some bullshit self aggrandizing justifications.
i may have used the ignore button once or twice in the past 10 plus years......unless someone is viciously bullying, cursing, and attacking something i have posted i try to give the benefit of doubt and let it ride. i am sure others have used the button for me but whatever, its their loss.
