It doesn't matter really because if we get down to our 3rd string QB as the starter. Then the Jets season ends right there

I like to see all draft picks play in the preseason. I imagine the Jets like it too. The Jets might not keep Simms or Boyd.

Simms and Boyd are in a more straightforward competition. Simms got the first game, Boyd got the second. Don't know how they'll play it next week. Smith (c'mon we all know the starter is Smith) will get three quarters and never play another down till September.

Game four should be headed by the leader and closed by the losing party, which so far looks like Simms and then Boyd respectively. I don't think Boyd started because rex doesn't like Simms. i think it was just giving him a chance to get reps in a live situation.

Pryor is amazing. And what I've been wanting since '10 when we jettisoned Sherry.

DLine looked kind of overrated, although i wont judge until we get to real games.

Offense beasted on Bengals second team, so cant really judge there either.

Ik Enkempali looks like a keeper -- which is good considering I hate our depth at LB

One thing that Geno's been doing that I really don't like is the little thing where he twists around and tries to stay up/create when there's a defender wrapped around his legs. It's the second straight week he's done it and he's going to hurt himself if he doesn't stop. Sometimes you need to protect yourself and take a sack.

R u refering to when Geno was gonna be taken down for sack and he twisted around and flicked the ball to Bilal Powell who got a couple yards?

That play could have been disastrous, but undeniably it was very creative by Geno. Still, that's something a QB shouldn't do. Just go down for the sack, don't be a hero and get careless.

In reference to the oline comments, Although Breno and Colon really need to get their penalties reduced, I love how colon came over right away and backed up Breno. I think they will develop real nice chemistry together and be a formidable force once they get the penalties cleaned up.

lol. well those 2 are some of the most fiestiest lineman in the league.

Having them side by side is dangerous...there's no-one there to hold them back.

Yup that was the play. And last week against the Colts he had someone around his ankles and he twisted around to try to get it to Bohanon in the flat (might've been a throwaway but it didn't look like it). Nothing good is going to come out of those plays, turnovers, injury, so much more harm than benefit.

A month or so ago, before having seen anything, I said - gun to my head - if I had to choose between Simms and Boyd, then I'd choose Boyd.

I'd like to retract that statement. Boyd looks like he doesn't belong in this league.

Def: Front 7 appeared to take it "easy"in 1st quarter (Copes & Wilks did no stunts/gap rushes-seemingly looking like they were "working" on new pass-rushing techniques rather than utilizing their present skills). Extremely poor safety play combined with idiotic corner coverage (Cal "Richard" Pryor=A+/Kyle Illson=repeat kindergarten/cut)

Off: Geno looked sharp in the pass game & kudos on his ability to use his legs as well as when NOT to throw.
OL provided more than adequate protection during pass plays along with opening nice holes in run game.
Our "ground&pound" backfield is gonna be straight dope! Jury still out on Hill; Salas making a strong case; Kerley is gonna be a huge plus/"secret weapon"; Amaro showed potential; "Baby Gronk" @ TE might emerge as a solid viable alternative to Cumberland.

    Spec Teams- Meh'

Overall opinion: Still pre-season. Not ready to judge either side of the ball.

    We shall see....we SHALL SEE!

    Keep the faith baby!

There were a couple plays from Geno that I absolutely loved and make me really optimistic about his growth:

-2nd drive: He drops back to pass and looks right, it looks like he's about to throw into heavy traffic but he pump fakes. You can tell it wasn't a normal pump fake, he was actually going to throw the ball but he caught himself in time and avoided a mistake. He then sensed a protection breakdown, spun away from a sack and used his legs to pick up 9 yards on first down.

-2nd drive: Chris Johnson motions from the backfield to the left side of the formation out wide. Geno stares Johnson down, you can tell that he was expecting the route to be open (it probably works in practice a lot) and he really wanted to throw there. Instead of forcing it (see: screen to David Nelson vs Pats that was a pick 6 last year) he conceded that his primary/favorite read was covered and moved on, hitting Salas for a 20 yard gain on a slant.

-2nd drive: 3rd and 15 on the edge of field goal range, instead of trying to force a throw downfield and pick up a 1st down, Geno hits Powell on a checkdown and gets the ball into clear field goal range.

-5th drive: 3rd and 5 in the red zone: goes through 3 progressions relatively quickly, then escapes and picks up a first down with his legs, leading to a touchdown. Crucial that he can convert with his legs to keep drives going and get 6 instead of stalling out.

-6th drive: Faced with a 3rd and 16 because of penalties, Geno sits in the pocket (receiving good protection) and drills Stephen Hill with a strong throw. Converting on third and long is always such a momentum builder for drives.

Hopefully he brings his sound new decision making into the regular season. He has all the arm talent he needs, so if he can add football IQ to that then he's got everything to be a solid NFL quarterback. Little things like avoiding stupid throws, converting third downs on the ground and getting/keeping your team in field goal range are all so crucial, and I think he's starting to understand that.

I like everything about Geno's game except his reaction time. That's what he needs to work on at this point. The pick 6 to a covered Nelson last year was the perfect example. Geno looked out to what he expected would be a wide open guy in the flats with the defender in soft coverage and then he threw anyway after a slight hesitation even though Nelson and the CB were literally in contact with each other about 5 yards from the LOS.

That's bad reaction time on Geno's part. He looked, saw what he needed to see and then threw it anyway because his mind hadn't quite caught up to the reality of the play.

He showed a lot of promise tonight with those plays, good job for picking them out.

I notice that Geno makes mistakes, but different mistakes than Mark Sanchez made. Mark Sanchez was just really careless in throwing into coverage/screens, took a while to go through progressions, and additionally had short range accuracy issues.

If you saw the Tahj Boyd throw to Chris Pantale,....that was what Mark Sanchez did. Geno doesn't do that. He's faster with his reads and doesn't make mistakes on stupid plays. His mistakes, like the INT when he was trying to target Nelson, are fixable. That was a communication breakdown and either Geno threw it a tad early, or Nelson stopped his route early and wasn't looking. It wasn't like Geno saw heavy traffic and still threw the ball anyways.

We also saw Geno's legs tonight (which looked a little faster). As much as people praise Vick for his running style (which is better than Geno's)...it's not like Geno can't run the ball. Geno matches up really well in upside vs. Vick.

Right, and in this game, he decided not to throw that one screen. He's learning. His reaction time suffered last year, and he threw quick screens and quick slants blindly. I've only seen him throw 2 this offseason. One was in last preseason game and the other was the INT tonight. (Although the INT tonight could have also been Nelson's fault.)

Watched the game online and it took a while...pause, restart, pause....you get the picture...having said all that.....

Get this out of the way...if the Bengals 1st team guys go down they are in a world of hurt because their backups from 2nd string on down really suck. The Jets, for a pleasant change, appear to have decent depth in general.

I really like what I'm seeing from Geno so far. He definitely has grasp of the offense because it is exceptionally clear that the game has slowed down for him. Other than that timing snafu with Nelson he looked VERY sharp. I do agree with the above poster that he needs to be careful...I like that he tries to extend plays and that little shovel to Powell was a nice bit of work. But, he is going to get injured. Overall I like our QB situation so far. Boyd is worse than awful...he is strike 2 on Rex's resume for "his picks." (The Terminator being the other bad one...John Connor) IF we go into the season with 3 QB's I would make sure Simms is number 3. Boyd was a waste of a pick that could have been a lineman...or maybe another CB. ;)

Our running game, as expected, is in mid-season form and I feel we will be top 5...enough said.

I agree, Salas needs to make this team. I like what I see from Hill overall...but damn, he really has to become consistent in catching the ball. One nice grab tonight but I still do not hear any consistency coming out of practice.

Offensive line...overall did a really nice job but they have GOT to get it together mentally! Penalties like that will not cut it and I expect Winters to be doing pushups for the next century...something like 60 yards of penalties to him alone. Colon...get yourself under control brother! Overall not a bad showing by our offense really. Bengals had the number 3 defense last year and I thought we did ok. They weren't stopping our running game either.

Our line looked pedestrian today...not sure if that was planned or an off day....

Our LB corps. looked alright...Pace looked tired. It was that or he decided to take a game off to rest.o_O

Enkampouroufh...however you say it....he makes this squad! I'm just going to call him EMC!

Our secondary....whooooo....Pryor is as advertised and if he doesn't start game 1 I'll be shocked, dismayed and a couple of other words! He is a wrecking ball and everyone he hits gets up dazed and confused.

Other than that.....I'm not sure what we are going to do. Especially with Wilson. That guy's head is fixated in one direction only. Hell, that first TD he gave up...if he turns his head he picks that ball considering where it went by him! Definitely a 1st round pick I wish we had back. He's a great slot corner but the minute you get him on the outside or deep he becomes a huge liability.....

Special teams seems to have gotten the ship righted from last year...EMC had that fantastic block for the safety. Good stuff right there! I would like to see Ford get a few more touches to see if he brings enough to the team to keep him on as a 5 or a 6 WR.

I don't know. Only pre-season game 2...but, as expected, with the loss of Miliner our CB crew looks worse that even I suspected it would...with the pass happy teams we have coming up our offense BETTER be in top form because we are going to need to score points.

That's what I thought too! The Bengals are paper thin on the inside. God forbid their starters get hurt....

They are a facade team that will have a tough time competing late in the season when ALL TEAMS (I repeat ALL TEAMS) experience injuries. That doesn't excuse the Jets starters, but depth is certainly a requirement for playoff caliber teams who make late season runs.

The other CB we drafted, Brandon Dixon had a couple plays in there that flashed a bit of potential. I don't expect any sort of impact this season but he could develop into something.

He broke up a couple passes, better than Kyle Wilson

Will Kyle Wilson still be on the team at the start of the season? I know we're short at CB, but, I don't know what value he provides.

This team is light years from being a real contender. They're not even as good as when Rex first took over in his 1st year and led them to the AFC Championship game.
If they go 10-6 with the schedule they have and make the playoffs, that would be an accomplishment. Regardless, they have way to many holes everywhere to compete
against the better teams. At this point, I am sick of Rex. He is constantly kissing Idzik's ass who is another Tanny. Welcome to another 5 years of mediocrity.
I cannot even root for the way this team is assembled. There's some players on here I absolutely love and others I despise. Regardless, until Johson, Idzik, Rex and Eugene
are gone, I've lost any desire to root for this team.
