Bad enough to miss the playoffs and good enough to get a shitty draft pick...different year same story
I believe its 8-8 the early stretch is brutal but the team will show improvement on the offensive side.
Depends on what year you give him credit for, I guess. I thought he really came on in 2010 when Revis was on and off with the hamstring. In 2012 (ACL), teams were intent on targeting Wilson and the corners behind him, Cro was a champion away from the ball.
I usually a positive person, but in the case of the Jets I'm not seeing this year panning out for a playoff run. We will be close, but fall just short at 8-8. What concerns me is the secondary first and foremost. Last year we go torched on many occasions even by some average teams and it was evident that our secondary needed some help. While I like what Idzik had done with the team, it was puzzling why Chromartie wasn't resigned. He wanted to be here, added depth to a position of need and was a leader in the secondary. Yes, his play suffered because of his injury last season, but maybe a full offseason would have gotten him back into shape. Now that Milliner is going to be out for an extended period and McDougle out for the season our depth has been completely shot. We were relying on a rookie (Pryor), an injury prone CB and questionable coverage CB (Patterson), and a CB who came off a below average year that ended on a high note (Milliner) to improve our secondary. However, this is not a recipe for success especially now that Milliner is injured. These guys are unproven or below average players while Chromartie has shown he can play at a high level and resigning him would have added elements of competition, depth, and leadership at the CB position. Also, AA moving to starting at CB, while it maybe an experiment for the preseason, is still concerning because it shows the lack of talent at the position. Since the secondary is still a big question mark and the Jets are facing some of the top offenses in the NFL, we need to hope that the front seven can apply pressure to the QB and force turnovers (which was the biggest weak point of the defense as a whole last years). Now, the offense is what many of us see improving the most in this off season, but is it enough? Eric Decker was an excellent signing that immediately improved our receiving core but I'm still looking for that #2 guy. Kerley will be in the slot, but who will step up to take that second outside spot? The Oline is another issue. If the Colts game is any indication of how they protect the QB this season then they need to step it up because their pass protection was subpard and it will hinder Geno's development if he's constantly running around in the backfield. It will be pretty fun to watch what schemes MM comes up with to utilize both CJ and Chris Ivory. The tight ends seem to be alright and it will be interesting to see how Amaro plays though I'm not expecting the a whole lot out of him just a solid contribution to the offense. Finally, the QB, the position that will best determine how the Jets season pans out. Can Geno stop turning the ball over to the other team? Can Geno lead the offense to long sustainable drives to keep our defense off the field? His development can make or break this season and it will be closely scrutinized by many of us. I feel Geno has the physical traits to be a successful QB, but it's really about what goes on in the head that really matters. Geno will have to improve his mental game in order to keep us in games and if he plays poorly we have Michael Vick waiting, but honestly if that happens most likely the season will be over and we will be looking for another QB next season (sigh). While I don't think this offense will be worse than last year (I mean how can it?), it still won't be a top 15 offense. I feel we just don't have the talent to produce those kind of results, but still no one really knows. Overall, I think we are going to compete for a playoff spot deep into the season, but just not finish it. I don't see us getting through those five weeks of what some are calling "Murders' Row" unscathed. It will be a real test for a our secondary and our offense to keep up with those teams, but I think we will pull out 2 wins during that time and just fall short during another. I don't think winning the division is out of the question though it's probably a long shot. We will mostly likely split with all the division rivals and be second or third in the division. What I'm looking for next year with the is to be more consistent week to week and that really falls on Rex and the coaching staff getting this team prepared. Rex needs to show that this team can compete with the best of them and able to push deep into the playoffs. Going 8-8 and missing the playoffs might cost him his job and honestly that could land us in a position even worse than the beginning of 2013, but who knows. Maybe 8-8 will get us a wild card spot since the AFC is not as strong as the NFC right now. Expect the worse, hope for the best.
The secondary was a detriment last season primarily because Cromartie was the 1CB. What we need to hope for is that Rex is true to his word that he will play to the strengths of his personnel. He didn't last season and it cost the Jets a lot in terms of passing defense, relying on a stupid player who couldn't compensate for his lack of turning ability and didn't naturally take to physical play. Signing Cro this year could have been a giant gamble, and I'm still not sure that Cro was in love with the Jets and not just the enormous cap space his agent was sure to tell him about. Rex in years past has been able to scheme defenses to his available talent, he isn't crippled by bad CB play. The Ravens had shit for CB performance that last two years he was in Baltimore and his defense still never dropped below 7th overall. Yeah, he depended on elite players like Reed and Lewis. Now he has near elite talent up front, I think he's up to the challenge. Don't let the retard beat writers for this team try to tell you what to think, and don't think for a minute that those pathetic retards aren't trolling this forum for content. Nobody thought the 2009 Jets had a chance in hell of competing. This team has more talent, more experience in their respective systems and coaches that know their personnel. Yeah, there are teams that have gotten better, it doesn't mean the Jets are jogging in place. This team has a chance.
I never felt the 2009 team was that talented, Rex was just able to scheme and get the most out of the defensive players, putting them in good positions to succeed, and offensively Thomas Jones did a solid job all season.
The thing with cromartie wasn't that he was playing with an injury. He was playing through the reoccurrence of a hip injury from 5 years ago.given that fact combined with his age I can't blame the f.o. for wanting to move on.
They do have a chance but the Jets kinda dont have the answer for a 4 Receivers empty backfield spread offense that Peyton , Rivers , Stafford , Rodgers, Jay Cutler , Tom Brady like to do because the ball is out too quick for the pass rush to be effective. Thats what bothers me
Well, let's look at Rex Ryan's coaching history and try to do this logically: 1 loss (at least) to each division opponent 1 loss after the bye week 2 losses to teams that they should easily beat 1 loss due to shitty clock management 1 loss on Monday night after playing Sunday the week before (long week off) 2 losses where Rex Ryan's Vaunted Defense (pat. pend.) gives up the lead late in the 4th quater. Looks like 6 - 10 to me!
The release is quick because those QBs target short yard cross route passes. This is how Jets were beaten in the past when Rives and Cro duo was in full power. This season this is where Pryor will be. IMO this is WHY they got Pryor. Good rush makes pass clock short and if you also have good safety to take away short yard passes -- it doesn't matter who your CBs are. This is how Giants beat Brady, twice.
OK, here is my realistic prediction. If you look at RR's coaching history logically, 1 win (at least) over each division opponent 1 win before the bye week 2 wins over teams that they should have lost to 1 win due to opponent's poor management 1 win on Sunday after playing Monday the week before (short week off) 2 wins where RR's defense keeps the opponent to below 17 pts. Sounds like 10 - 6 to me!
I'm surprised so many ppl still consider the Pats elite. Looking at their offense, to me, seem like they are reaching badly. Sure, Brady is still there and one of the best all time, but he's gotten older (how many years do ppl truly believe he has left?). There back ups at the qb position are unproven and a rookie. Their receivers are all midgets, unproven or rookies and Edleman, Amendola and Gronk have all never made it through an entire season, i don't think ever. Who is their running back? The defense may have improved, but they lost linebackers in the off season too, I think one to buffalo. Last season, there were a considerable amount of games that the Pats pulled out of their ass with a little bit of luck and "help". If Gronk goes down again, this guy seriously needs to consider retirement. If Brady starts taking some clean shots this year, I think he is going to fold; he is no young man anymore. This team, to me, is very beatable. We all know what they will do, try quick patterns over the middle to quell our blitz and try to run the football and run quick offense while guys are substituting. You stop the run, you find away to stop the quick passes and let brady hang back there for that extra second, too long, and put his ass on the ground. Simply put on offense, if it's not there eat it. Our defense can beat their offense, we are younger faster, more intense, harder hitting, war machines. Kill this brittle New England, no depth offense. The league has gotten a lot faster and our defense and even our QB position has followed that trend. The Pats look geriatric, and unexciting.
If you are being logical, check out Rex's record after the bye week. After 5 seasons, his act is pretty predictable, and consistant.
8-8, but the losses won't all be blowouts this time. They'll be in the hunt but not enough talent to make the cut IMO. Really worried about that secondary and one injury on the OL and were fucked.
The more I look at not only the Jets, but the rest of the league, I tend to downgrade my expectations a bit. I'll say 8-8 although leaning towards 7-9. 4 straight years of mediocrity. Ryan should be gone at year's end if they're not in contention for a playoff spot in the last few weeks of the season. I question Idzik's ability to evaluate talent as well. And the Jets scouting dept. is shaky at best.
One thing that is funny and ironic about our fan base.. is that SOJF/darksiders get upset to see the team becoming better. Schedule looks tougher, but this team is leaps and bounds better than last season. It's definitely a 10+ win season. I see us getting ahead early, holding leads and running the clock. Geno and Vick running and killing with PA pass.
I am worried about the schedule. I do believe this team is better than last year, but the schedule worries me. Especially going to NE after Broncos on a super short week. It's almost like NFL did it on purpose.
