New GMs keep the old GM's scouts through their first draft and replace most or all of them in the weeks after the draft. Some GMs replace them in two waves (meaning, fire the rest after your second draft) so that they have some continuity, and sometimes you keep a scout or two who you really like. Bradway is still in the front office and it doesn't look like he'll be fired. Keeping him might have been one of the conditions of taking the GM job.
In terms of letting scouts walk for lateral opportunities, I was talking about your whimsical idea that the Jets should study up on teams that are successful in the draft to revamp their scouting department. Teams rarely steal good scouts from other teams without personal relationships coming into play. Because successful drafting teams keep good scouts. Stealing a good scout from a successful team is a lateral move. When I mention regional scouting, I am talking about looking at the trend of successful draft picks from certain regions and marking the scouts from that region as better than, say, scouts from a region where a team usually has lesser talents or outright busts. You can't just blame one huge bust on a regional scout that reports on that area, but when that guy's region doesn't produce any talent, he probably sucks. As far as the lack of a Super Bowl ring, Ozzie Newsome has probably the most accomplished scouting regime in the past 20 years, and couldn't produce a franchise QB until very recently, and had a span of more than a decade between Super Bowls. Obtaining talent is a big part of the equation, but it's not the most important. There are a shitload of factors involved in NFL success, and on message boards like this they are polarized individually and used to further the opinion of people that either do not understand or just do not care to put the effort into understanding the big picture. As far as your lame jab about having a "real job", I have a "real job" with a Fortune 500 company that takes up a lot of my time, a secondary job that is more of a livelihood that takes up more time, and still I have the understanding to know where to look for the correct information about this team, and I am a great multi-tasker, when things in either of my "jobs" get stagnant. It's less about not having enough time and more about giving enough of a shit to know the details before you spew a stream of diarrhea words onto the screen of every member of this forum.

Having more scouts means more eyeballs on the future players. Maybe if we had more eyeballs in 2011 a player like Richard Sherman (a player that Rex would covet), a player who became a starter from game 1 and has more ints and passes defensed than any other DB in football, wouldn't fall to the fifth round to one pick after the Jets. Who knows if our limited scouting dept knew who this kid from Stanford even was. So there's your DB...round 5 from Stanford.
Bradway must have incriminating photos of Woody Johnson or something, this dude has been here despite losing the job himself and 2 GMs later. That's not to say he's bad at what he does, he's brought talent here, but its not like he's done so well that he's untouchable.
I never said resigning Kerley would eat up most of the cap space we have, my point was that resigning Mo Wilk, resigning Harrison, AND resigning Kerley would eat up most of the cap space we have. Just think about it, Harrison is playing on an undrafted rookie contract. He's not gonna be content with that if he has another big year. He's gonna want to get paid! Now if Kendrick Ellis stays healthy all season and has a big year like some people are predicting based on the way he performed last year when he was in, then we can either look to trade one of the two and resign the other, or look to resign both. Either way, it's going to cost us most of our 20 mil.
This is right. The Jets cap space moving forward is mostly spoken for. They've got 5 guys coming due next year who will all make substantially more than they are making now in Mo Wilk, Snacks, Ellis (either here or somewhere else), Douzable (ditto) and Kerley. They also have pre-2015 contract conundrums involving David Harris, Bilal Powell, Kyle Wilson, Willie Colon, David Nelson, Dawan Landry, Jacoby Ford, Greg Salas, Dimitri Patterson, Jaiquawn Jarrett, Matt Simms, Caleb Schlauderaff, Johnny Patrick, Nick Bellore, etc. Then they have the class of 2012 coming due after 2015 in Quinton Coples, Demario Davis, Stephen Hill, Antonio Allen and Josh Bush. They have high profile vets like Chris Johnson, Michael Vick, Antwan Barnes and Jason Babin all coming due after 2015. The Jets are going to have a lot of choices to make over the next two years and having the cap space to pick and choose wisely seems like the right way to go. Just looking at the lists above it would suck if lack of cap forced the Jets hand in the wrong places.
