But then it just becomes a dual quarterback system which is unheard of. It mirrors somewhat similarly to the Bills in 1999 and 2000 with Doug Flutie and Rob Johnson even though that was moreso due to injuries, although Flutie was replaced by Johnson in the playoffs for the Music City Miracle game. Dual quarterback systems don't even work in college all too well. LSU has tried to do it and it completely throws one quarterback out of rhythm to sit for two drives then come back in. Not that there's an elite quarterback on the roster, but look at all the elite quarterbacks or even the mid-tier quarterbacks and see how they'd feel being replaced for a series or even a couple plays. It ruins timing.
You guys should call the offense lol you know the team better than Marty Barcs, your statement is shit. Brad smith made a career here off the wildcat. He had many big gains from wildcat. In a must win game against the Bengals he crushed solely from wildcat formation.
Brad Smith averaged 11.5 yards per carry in 2009 and 8 per carry in 2010. Im sure not all of those carries were from the WC but anyone who says it wasnt productive back then is just flat out wrong.
i think the w.c. has its time and place in spots with a young qb. its a good way to get the qb over to the sideline for some extra words if drives are sputtering. they key is knowing when to use it. seemed like the 2012 season it was always a momentum killer with tebow coming in after it looked like mark was starting to roll. 2009 it seemed to work well, when they brought in brad to get the down and distance back to manageable. if marty sees the need to utilize it in that kind of role i don't think i would complain too much
There's a reason 31 other teams don't run this package, because its a joke and non effective most of the time.Every now and then you get a decent play out of it but most of the time its a two yard gain
Subtract the few BIG runs that came exclusively because of his talent making a big play and he's averaging 2-3 yards a carry. I hated the way Schotty used him. I'll be happy if we never do it again. In 2010 he had 2 big runs the whole year that inflated his stats big time. Yeah, one was against the Bengals. Practically every other play was a 2 yard gainer.
The Wildcrap was stupid last year. I don't remember it ever being useful or making a huge play. All it does is setup a situation where the running back can direct snap run (with defense loaded box) or end around (with guys waiting to tackle). Occasionally, your RB (who is by no means an expert at throwing) will sometimes try to throw the ball and trick the defense (which also no longer works). From what it sounds like...their version of the "wildcat" will actually be a Duo QB system in reality. Where occasionally Michael Vick comes in to play QB. They wanted to do this with Tebow...but they felt he wasn't the right guy for the job. A Duo QB system has been tried and doesn't work. There is a reason that after almost a century of football, teams have stuck to a traditional QB. Nothing else works. It will either take away from Geno's rhythm (which Vick AND Mornhinweg agree upon) or fail to do much. Vick could also end up with an injury...and then the Jets' QB plan is messed up. If Vick gets injured...then Geno is FORCED to play. Even if he struggles. The only other QBs will be Matt Simms and Tahj Boyd. Both of which are not NFL starters.
Yeah J_Vilma, I remember when LSU did it, not too long ago either. Lou "Joe College" Holtz tried it his one year with the Jets: putting in Todd down in the red zone to take advantage of his mobility and then often trying to run the veer….
