I saw you guys talking about Oldboy so I checked it out on Netflix. Then I realized I had already seen the 2003 version, and thought this one was weak in comparison.

I was talking about the 2003 Korean version. I wouldn't wish the remake on anyone, and I haven't ever seen it.

That's good to hear. I mean, it wasn't bad, but the fight scenes weren't even close and didn't seem well choreographed at all, especially the last one against the chick. It was like 5 seconds. That was the big detractor for me. The acting was fine, and the girl he hooked up with was really hot, but it just didn't seem the same. I guess it would be good if you haven't seen the Korean one. I had forgotten the name of the Korean one cuz it's been a few years and I watch a lot of movies, so at first I had no idea it was the same film until he got locked in the hotel room, then things began to look familiar.

I think I have developed a subconscious distaste for McConaughey and I'm not sure why. Always liked him as an actor, even if he is mainly one-dimensional. But I tried to watch Mud last week and shut it off within 10 minutes, just tried to watch Dallas Buyers Club a few minutes ago and I just shut it off. Not sure why he repels me like that.

Maybe he roofied me and gave me a Sour Patch Kids rimjob or something. Nothing else explains it.

I just watched I Saw The Devil for the second time. Just a good movie.

Different director than Oldboy (Korean movie) but a better pace, better character development, and the guy that played the main role in Oldboy plays a very major part in this movie. No crazy fight scenes, it's a serial killer movie, but very worth watching.

    Snowpiercer.

Post apocalyptic fare, great cinematography and while the story is sort of a tower conqueror, there's far more going on. Chris Evans, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton and Ed Harris. Really enjoyable movie.

Oh, by the way, anyone that wants to see Scarlett Johansson nude should watch Under The Skin.

Watching this right now. Got the alert that you had posted in this thread and thought I'd come in and recommend this one. Enjoyable enough for me to still be awake watching it.

Just watched Chef, pretty funny if a little thin character development wise. Great supporting cast.

It's a horrible movie; don't believe the hype. I don't know how anyone could read the book, which is amazing, and reduce it to the caricaturization of slavery that the movie did.

I read the book after it won the academy award and before seeing the film, and was excited to see the film. Beyond how poorly and silly the movie presented the story, the most damning element of the movie is that for a film called 12 Years a Slave it had very little context of time. You don't really get a sense of how long he has been in slavery throughout the movie. Has been a year, 5 years? who the hell knows? eventually it just comes to an end and you assume it must have been 12 years.

even the ending, when he is reunited with his family, is so cartoonishly contrived compared to the true story. only Hollywood could make a movie so bad, then have the muscle to sell it to the public that it is a meaningful social and artistic statement.

I've ripped that one to watch on my flight on Thursday. Is it an amount of nudity that I should avoid watching it sitting in an aisle seat?

Yeah, there are 3 or 4 full frontal nudity scenes that are sort of lengthy, pretty much the only parts of her you don't get a prolonged look at would earn it an NC17 rating.

Very bizarre and slow paced movie, but I enjoyed most of it I think.

I saw Boyhood last weeked, what a marvel of a film.

The director filmed it over 12 years with the same actors (Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke, and the kids) Its truly fascinating how the film stays level in visuals and how the story moves along. It feels so real.

Great movie, I recommend you see it.
