I hate to say it but this whole CB situation has got me bummed out big time. I can understand not getting Revis because he would handcuff us as usual. I even understand not signing DRC because to be honest I think the Giants overpaid him. However, there were other options and Antonio Cromartie was dying to come back to this team and we didn't take him. Maybe the Jets saw something the Cardinals didn't, but I hated not signing him. The fact that Stephen Hill has not turned into what we expected (or anything remotely close) is killing us too. I can see Decker getting injured at some point in the season, and then we are right back where we were last year. Im usually on the bright side but I'm feeling mighty low right now.

My biggest concerns are Geno, the o-line and the secondary. I think if we can somehow overcome those, or they are not that bad to begin with, 8-8 is realistic. I think 10-6 is the ceiling with 6-10 being worst case scenario.

    Sub-par coverage for multiple years?

He wasn't all that bad last year. Better than Milliner and Wilson for sure. He would have made sense economically but you have to wonder if this is part of the overall "housecleaning" that's been happening since Idzik's arrival. He's putting his stamp on the personnel and in the everyday world, that means anybody associated with the prior regime gets the fisheye. Revis stood no chance of coming back because of all the money drama that happened but Cro could have played Ed Reed's role this year with the young guys. Maybe not when it comes to birth control though... :)

Woody is not your typical NFL Owner. If he was, we wouldn't have seen so many HC hires without priors. Woody loves Rex Ryan period. It's been well documented so we can dispel any talk of Rex getting axed no matter what happens in 2014. Now if Woody was a typical owner, he would have cleaned house when Tannenbaum was bounced but what happened? A presser where Woody did everything except blow Rex onstage. In the end, Rex Ryan is the HC of the NYJ's for 2014 and most likely 2015. Barring a complete meltdown or another franchise embarrassing trip to bizarro land due to Rexy's penchant for the "Outer Limits" of normal behavior.

Besides last year in which he was injured all year, when was he sub-par? He was going to come here on the cheap. Hate all you want, look at where we are now.

FYI, I am a fan of Idzik so far, but not re-signing Cromartie on the cheap bothered me from the start.

You make some decent points, but in all seriousness, how many coaches (and who) would have coached last year's team to 8-8? It's your opinion so there is no wrong answer. Also, Rex's "penchant for the outer limits" is why I love the guy as a person, but I also believed he has proved himself a competent coach as well.

AFC east champs, playoffs, wildcard home game. Pats are not the same team. Brady is one year older, his receivers are Edelman amendola Gronk (if they rebuild him) and who? (none of those guys make it through and entire season)

Stop the run, hit Brady and he will fold. BB's got some Hernandez distractions coming his way too. This is the year. They will fall.

He's gotten better over the years definitely. I'd like to think he won't repeat certain mistakes like say, predicting Super Bowls or putting a valuable asset into a meaningless situation or getting a ill advised tattoo. Fact is, Rex Ryan is bulletproof this season no matter what happens. Realistically, I don't think Woody even believes this team is PO ready. You haven't heard Woody or Idzik state one time its "post season or bust" for Ryan. They already know 2014 isn't the year.

I'm going to change my opinion and use the Dee Milliner philosophy and say we go 16-0.
I'm not going to say another team can beat us!

Not Wilson. Cro was giving up TDs like it was nothing last year. Seemed like every Sunday, there goes Cro again giving up another TD.

Unless big injuries happen, I see us as 8-8 or 9-7 team.

Both 7-9 and 10-6 are unrealistic at this point.

Oh man this is tough. My gut is telling me 6-10 but they could go 10-6 and be in the playoffs as well. Obviously so much depends on Geno but this early slate will be interesting. There are doomsday predictions on this board with the CB situation and the early slate of QB's the Jets are playing however I've seen this team time and time again step it up against elite QB's. They just seem to be on another level on both sides of the ball when they're facing off against the elite QB's in the NFL.

The defense has been getting all the attention lately however this is all going to be about the offense and in particular, the running game. It was a miracle that the Jets went 8-8 with that offense last year. If they're even a fraction more consistent than last year there's some hope.

I see the jets as an 8-8 team with potential to be a lot better if a few key things break their way. the offense needs to find a way to score more points this year.

Wilson had a really bad habit of never turning around when the ball was in the air. As a result, while Cro was giving up the TD's, Wilson was giving up 3rd and longs on a fairly regular basis.

I expect our D-line to make up for our CB issues and make their job easier for them by popping the shit outta all these "Great QB's" we have to face. I like how rex prepares for those kinda games and those QBs (Brady, Brees, Cam, Matt Ryan) never look like themselves against us, its the average/mediocre guys (Fitzpatrick, Tannehill, Dalton, EJ Manuel) that for some reason have a field day on our defense. It's really up to rex to prepare right for all 16 and not just the "Big games". Look for our d-line to cause more issues for offenses this year and as a unit, lead this team to the playoffs.

If we get the Geno from last year then probably 6-10 , 7-9.

    If Geno improves then 10-6.

As crazy as we are about the secondary right now it literally doesnt matter one bit if Geno goes out there and puts points on the board. Rex will make adjustments.

    Somewhere around 9-7 and 7-9.
