This is a team coming off a rebuilding year. Rex doesn't have any pressure to make the playoffs this year. He's essentially playing with house money. If we finish 8-8 and Geno looks like an NFL QB, Pryor looks like he is on his way to becoming a good NFL safety, Milliner looks decent, Winters + any of the young oline guys steps up, Davis looks like a beast of a MLB. That would be a positive because at least we have a nice core of young players already in the fold.

2015 is the playoffs or bust year.

2014 could be a playoff year but Rex would get a pass if he misses it this year.

Actually I was just responding to someone who said that even if Vick is better and could get us more wins, we should still start Geno to ensure his development. To me that would be as dumb as sitting Brady so their 'future QB' can develop. You know, since Brady is pushing 40 and won't be around much longer.

Different circumstance. Brady is their established franchise QB so unless his play declines he'll start until he retires and not to mention they are in win now mode.

The Jets are coming off a rebuilding year and are trying to develop young players hence why we have a few unproven young guys in position to start this year (Milliner, Allen, Davis, Winters) no different with Geno. They're trying to see if he can be the long term solution at QB. Hence why he's starting. Vick will play if Geno gets hurt or stinks.

Would any of those in the "Vick as mentor for Smith" camp please explain why there has been no press coverage of all the study time they're putting in together and no videos of Vick leading Smith through the mechanics of being an NFL quarterback?

His job isn't to sit down with smith and teach him. It's to push him. More specifically to push him with good play. And I'm sure Vick's chatted with Geno on the sideline about how to do certain things. Vick's more of a mentor by example in training camp rather than a teach for Geno Smith.
