Vick was brought in to mentor Geno and to step in, in case Geno gets hurt or regresses. That's it. The FO believes in Geno if they didn't they would've had an open competition with Vick, or they would've drafted Bridgewater. Basically it's Geno's job to lose as it should be. He should get another year to prove himself. I want a long term solution at the QB position. Not a 2 year stopgap.
Hard to believe Mike won't be playing this season. I can't see him on the bench in a Garrard role. He's going to play esp when the offense sputters. Rex says no Tebow role. Geno can run the ball but he's no Vick. PS also with new guys like Decker, Amaro etc. as key contributors you would think Mike can learn how to play with them before Geno does.
Not sure to whom your post is directed at, but the question was when was Vick's prime? I think he spent his best playing years in prison. I think as a quarterback, he's better now than he was in Atlanta, when more of a threat as a runner than passer. But could you imagine how good he could have been if he had not lost that time. Also having Andy Reid as a coach, helped him tremendously.
He went 8-8 in his first year. Comparatively speaking, the face of the girl in your avatar fails at least twice as hard as Geno last year.
Don't you think $5M a year is a pretty expensive mentor? I think if the FO really believed in him, they would signed a far cheaper option. Or maybe resigned Sanchez at a cheaper rate. I think they brought Vick to push and mentor Smith. If Smith falters, they have an experienced alternative.
Tom Brady is not the long term solution in NE. Belicheck is being short sighted playing Brady instead of developing his next QB. How is Belicheck going to know what he has unless he plays the next QB up? What about 2015,16,17? Belicheck is a fool.
The Jets, lead by a much improved Geno Smith, finish the regular season 9-7, one game out of the last WC spot. As expected Rex Ryan and the entire coaching staff were released after failing to reach the playoffs for three consecutive years . -or- The Jets, lead by a revitalized Michael Vick, finish the season 11-5 tied with New England for the AFCE.
They believe in him but Vick is there for insurance. If they didn't believe in him they would've done to Geno what Tampa did to Glennon. The Jets believe they are a playoff team but they want a viable option behind Geno for the reasons I already stated.
If Geno looks good and the team wins 9 games Rex will be retained. This team isn't being built to go all in in 2014. Unless I missed it there will be football beyond 2014.

We shall see how much of a competition this REALLY is next week. If the Jets start Vick...then it's a little more open than we thought. A lot of people have made the assumption it's a closed QB competition because Geno has been given 75% of first team reps. In reality, Vick is vet and doesn't need as many first team reps. Vick also already knows Marty's system. Maybe they simply thought to give Geno reps because he needs them more. There's no doubt they want to groom Geno and would rather have him. But perhaps it's more of a competition than we thought. I am with the Geno supporters. I'd rather see Geno start and see how he does...Vick isn't a long term answer. But it would be wrong to snub Vick if he truly performs better in preseason.
I hate the Pats, Brady and that arrogant ahole BB but have to say objectively if the Jets had honored his contract that "fool" would have gotten us a SB ring. Compare him to Herm Edwards, Rex, etc. Why is it Jet fans let hate color reality?????

lol...are you really trying to compare Tom Brady to Vick? Brady has won more Super Bowls than the number of full regular seasons Vick has played in. Even if Vick gets to start the season over Geno, he won't finish the season (especially if the line doesn't play any better). History has shown that. If Vick was such a good QB, then he would have been able to get a better deal than a 1 year contract. The people running the team are doing it right. Start Geno, see if he looks like he could become the QB for the franchise. If not, then you can start to look for another QB. Vick is just a one year insurance policy, nothing more. I don't see him taking any team to the Super Bowl when he can't stay on the field and I think other teams and GMs agree, otherwise, like I stated earlier, he could have landed something better than a one year deal.
