Ftr I edited my post before you posted yours to clarify that MOST of the criticism of Schotty came from Sanchez Fans. Because it did. I did not call you a Sanchez Fan for the record, so just stop. Pennington's issues were with his injuries, and his one year injury free was more to do with his doctors than his OC. Here we go again indeed. I was not the one who brought Schotty up.
Schottenheimer made Chad try and make throws he could no longer make due to his injury. So, as an OC, it's your duty to adapt to personnel changes and make it work. Down in Miami they didn't make Chad try those 10 yard out-routes because he could no longer make those throws all of the time. They should have fired Schottenheimer, and let Rex Ryan bring Hue Jackson along.
I frankly don't know any of the following. I don't know that Chad and his many fans ever conceded that he could not throw the out pattern, although i would agree with you he could not at some point. But I don't recall him attempting many, either. Hardly any in fact. But again I do not mean to relitigate the Schotty era. I've said enough about that. I'm just happy we have Marty as the OC. I hope he stays for awhile.
We had no run game. Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston were our running backs. Chad had to throw in order for us to win.
We had Thomas Jones in 2007, and Chad still got benched because Chad was playing too safe with the football and didn't want to throw down-field. Even after that injury in the first week.
I didn't agree with the benching of Chad. But it was understandable. We were losing and we needed a spark.

I think it's pretty clear that Geno needs to screw up big time or Vick needs to light it the fuck up in order for Vick to start. Any perceived "slight edge" from the first preseason game is irrelevant IMO.
This offense needs to score points period. If Vicks shows he can put points up and Geno can't he will start. This criteria of he did not turn it over so he was good crap has to stop now. Whoever can get the ball in the endzone plays.
Teams typically like to name their starting QB before the 3rd PS game so he can get 3 quarters of work in with the starting O. (we didn't last year because Geno was hurt for the 2nd game). After two decent but not great showings from the quarterbacks last night, it's hard to see any circumstance in which Vick starts. They both figure to get a half (Geno first, Vick second) and at this point Vick would not only have to be noticeably better than Geno, he has to make him look like a high school QB in comparison. Anything short of a multiple turnover half for Geno and a 150+ yard, multi-TD half for Vick and Geno's got it.
Slight edge in performance on that GAME, not for the position. I read something like Vick led 7 1st downs compared to Geno's 3. I still believe Geno will start, so 'slight edge' means nothing...Vick will need to blow them away in preseason and practice
I think both QB's showed the ability yesterday to move the football and put some points on the board. The Colts had 2 15-yard penalties on the Vick TD drive. I'm not taking anything away from him but if you tack 30 yards on to the Geno drive then that's most likely a TD too. The good thing to me is that the offense although not great looks way ahead of where they were at this time in the pre-season last year. Neither Sanchez or Geno was able to put anything whatsoever up on the board, and just getting a 1st down was an achievement. Yesterday they at least looked like an offense that will be capable of scoring 24 points per game. This offense just cannot have constant 3 and outs over and over though like in years past. Even if we don't score we need the offense to stay on the field for 6 - 8 plays instead of 3 to make sure out defense stays fresh.
I think the only "slight" edge is because Vick led a TD drive whilst Geno didn't. Regardless of the circumstances. _
I don't think Vick performed better they both did okay. Geno looked like an NFL QB. And Vick showed he's still a capable QB. There's really nothing else you can make out of their performances than that.
Not that it matters to the Jets FO decision making process but all you're hearing today on ESPN and the NFL Network is about the Vick run and his leading the Jets to a TD. It's stupid media BS, but all the rest of the nation is hearing about is Vick. That's the "slight" edge folks are talking about. If you watched the game as a Jet fan, Geno actually made a few better plays. _
I thought both did some good things on the field. Geno more-so with his arm, and Vick with his legs. I think Geno to Decker was a big pass play that was nullified by a penalty. Watching Geno to Decker yesterday was a tease.
I know the run and the TD is what they're considering as a slight edge. But those folks are using it more than likely has an agenda. Whether it's the media wanting a QB controversy or fans that favor one QB over the other.
