I think McDougle's future is inside. While he can probably be serviceable outside, I think he can and will be an excellent nickel CB which bodes well for us when Wilson leaves next offseason. Right the only person on the roster that won't keep me up nights before games is Walls.
geno smith isnt andrew luck and the jets offense isnt quite as ready as the colts the offense looked in sync but i feel like marty didnt really do much with the playcalling to try and put on a show. it looked like he was more concerned with timing routes (which geno actually got down!!) and just getting the guys used to getting hit by a live d. i know chris johnson has had some jitters about getting his first licks and felt like he needed those first few just to get him back into the swing of things. i think that first drop was exactly that, cj was a little anxious to take that pop after the catch and forgot to secure the ball. got hit and after that it was a different cj in my eyes. i think this team is in good shape minus a few spots on d. our lbs got beat bad a few times in coverage but i think thats what the offense is designed for so im not going to freak out about it. patterson needs to be replaced. otherwise, not a bad preseason game by any means and my predictions about the season have not changed minus one thing. i have more confidence that geno can be that starting qb. he looked like a different player out there, like a qb.
Geno looked ok but not comfortable in the pocket. Vick looked ok but not comfortable in the pocket. The pocket didn't look like a comfortable place last night. The Jets are going to have to fix that if we're going to have a shot at the playoffs. It was the first preseason game so things were going to be pretty vanilla. I expect that if the pocket remains an issue the Jets will do a lot of read option to try to keep people from gambling on the edges as much as the Colts were last night.
The one thing I wanted to see from Geno wasn't there. He didn't take a single snap from under center from what I remember. At first I thought maybe it wasn't a part of our offense but... Both Vick and Simms lined up under center. It may seem like a tiddly wink kind of thing to bitch about - but all it says to me is that Geno didn't work on this in the offseason enough. Very disappointing.
You should listen to your username... Just because a certain formation wasn't used in a throwing situation doesn't equal Geno not working on it in the offseason. Come on man...
Maybe you are right. But I find it alarming that he didn't take ANY snaps from under center AT ALL. The other QBs did. To me that is a red flag. I'm not condemning him because of it but improved footwork was on his to do list. Let's see in the next couple of preseason games if dropping back from center shows up.
Instead of bashing the bad... anyone else love the play of IK not to mention McDougle and George looked good ! Oh and for Amaro looking lost in camp he impressed as well ! I'm pumped to see what Calvin can do next week.
IK was good but I don't know about George. He missed like three plays in a row I really hope our secondary can put up a good showing against Andy Dalton. I think we need to put Walls or McDougal across from Millner. If Patterson isn't healthy he shouldn't be out there.
IK and McDougle looked nice albeit against 3rd stringers. Amaro definitely did not look as bad as I thought he would given the reports we've been seeing out of training camp. However I thought Jeremiah George looked pretty awful. Didn't he give up the soul touchdown? It seemed like he was kind of lost out there in general. When we drafted this guy, wasn't there the notion that he was going to be a special-teams guy? Maybe that's all he is, if anything.
I also paid a bit of attention to FB Chad Young, he was laying some wood on blocks, always finished. Had one catch that he bobbled but ended up hauling in, got open a few more times but Simms didn't look in his direction.
As far as George goes, I'm not expecting him to look like an All-Pro in his first game. The CB's remain my concern and I'm still mad at the GM
Not sure why George is being brought up, he didn't look so good. That A.J. Edds kid at LB looked a lot better than him and played great. He was a 4th rounder once upon a time. He could make this team and bounce out a guy like George actually
My impressions, for what it's worth. First of all, beautiful nite for a football game. Perfect weather, clear skies, the moon out, a pretty relaxed crowd. I do love preseason games for exactly those reasons, my only regret is my go-to preseason eatery Jerry's of Rutherford is closed. Offense is going to take some time to gel. Was nice seeing Geno hit Decker a couple of times, his designed run is exactly what he needs to do once a game and his throw away on the blitz was his most important play IMHO. His wild fling to the sidelines could have been a disaster, that's the type of play he needs to learn to just eat the ball. Was looking for a long drive from the first O so that was a bit disheartening. Still, no turnovers and some positive plays. Penalties did not help. Nice throw to Cumby. Nice hand for Vick from the crowd when he came in, drowned out any boos IMHO. He put together a nice drive, his field vision is still amazing as is his escapability and the guy can still flat out run (nice dive at the end, would have preferred he take it out of bounds rather than get the few extra yards in a preseason game). I'm not as concerned as most here about Amaro, soft hands and nice turn up the field on that throw into the flat. Although he might have had a drop later on (or a good pass defense). Vicks best play was the 4th down pass to Bohanon. I'm liking Sudfield but he needs to get back a number in the 80s. Looks like a high schooler in number 44. Simms started off very shaky but then picked it up and looked pretty good. Solid number 3. Looks like my man Boyd's best shot is the PS. Liked Alex Greens burst on that long gainer. Was not impressed with our running game at all. I know, it's the first preseason game. The first team defense did not look stellar quite frankly. Luck basically marched down the field and was hitting seemingly wide open guys. As an aside, why does it seem every other team has WRs running wide open against us and our guys are always making catches while blanketed? Last guy I remember running open and free was Coles. But I digress. Luck looks like the real deal and TY Hilton is a blazer. I think Milliner played well but he HAS to pick that ball off. He had 2 hands on it. The bad snap to Luck prevented a likely TD which would have changed our whole perception of the game. Bad penalties too, how many neutral zone infractions? Second/third team defenses was meh. Best player was Edds, seemed to be all over the place. Nice seeing McDooDoo making a play. I can't believe Hasselback is still a backup, he threw up some awful passes-although he threw that perfect bomb when he mishandled the snap. No major injuries was a major plus, seemed like their guys were dropping like flies. I'd give us a B- or C+. Nothing exceptional but nothing horrible either. Have to watch the game on the DVR, but that's what I saw. _
FYI for those who missed it (or had to watch the crappy lo-res stream while on a conference call) the replay is on NFL Network today at 1pm.
You should've said - - for those who could use an afternoon nap, the boring preseason game is being replayed at 1pm lol
Ikemefuna Enemkpali's got some beast in him. He caught my attention last week up in Cortland. (from the "Official Training Camp" thread): One thing I was looking forward to was to see if the OL was going to get the push they displayed against the Colts in 2012. Last night was dissapointing in that regard as was the lack of blitz recognition and pickups.
