I have no idea who Abner Haynes is but that is an outstanding photo. Sign of the times, look at "DUNCAN 45" in magic marker on the elbow pad. Probably wrote that himself. _
Still one of my most memorable games with my daughter. Can still hear her say "Dad, we'll never forget this game". _
He ran the ball like a wild man that day. I will always remember that game. He was better in the snow!
Abner Haynes was a great all purpose back, 12,000 yds., runner, pass catcher, punt returner, kick returner mostly for the Chiefs and Broncos
"We'll kick to the clock" were the famous words spoken by Haynes during the OT coin toss before the '62 AFL title game.
That was the final game in which the Bills wore the red standing buffalo helmets excluding throwback games.
Makes sense. My first game was the fifth game of '76, Namath off the bench to pull out the win against OJ and the Bills for the first win of the season and the glorious Lou Holtz era. Can barely remember the game much less what the Bills were wearing. I do remember as clear as day, however, Namath hobbling off the field into the first base dugout at Shea. He looked like someone's grandmother after they'd gotten run over by a fucking train.
