Decker's catch was late, causing him to come to a stop and even though he was less than ten yards away, the pass was high and slightly behind. If Decker was hit on the move it would have been a great gain. Once when under a little presser Smith threw the ball low not even giving the receiver who was only five yards away any chance. Smith looks just like he did last year. Vick who I don't like is the better of the two, but he won't last the season if given the starting job. Yes, Sims played against scrubs, but he also had to play and lead scrubs. For the amount of talent he was given to work with, he looked good and completed 72% of his passes. Just imagine what he could do in this offense with the first team and the lion's share of reps. You can say if he was any good the coaches would give him a chance, but I feel Rex is clueless and with any luck will be an ex-coach this time next year if not sooner. Rex inherited a solid team and with another coaches selections took us to two championship games. But after years of his own selections we are much worse off and are fighting each year to go 8-8. Rex is a shell of his former self and lost both his bark and his bite. Is Simms the next Russell? No, but with the right coach (MM), right system (this one) and a true competition, he could definitely beat out the two scrubs ahead of him. Our GM who preached competition is showing anything but, and when Rex goes out the door he should be going with him. So, let me start the Simms fan club and may he find his way to being the starter, sooner rather than later.

On the first pass, did Decker who was WIDE open have to stop and wait on a pass that was high (yes he jumped for it) and behind him? YES. In the shot even you can clearly see he is stopped, and in the air catchingthe ball. Falco21, your love for Geno is making you blind with passion. You mentioned "getting nailed by a pass rusher", but you will see he was barely touched and that was way after the pass had been thrown away, plus he was turning his back to the defender and receiver when the defender was still a full step away. The ball was OUT of his hand when the defender was still two steps away from him. Watch the tape. In the screenshot below the ball in just leaving his hand and the defenser is two steps, yes you can count his feet hit the ground. By time the defender takes one step the ball in five yards down field and Smith has turned. The defender barely touches him with his finger tips. If this is gettinfg nailed, Smith should put on a pink dress, because this man's sport is too rough from him. Nailed in sports in just like life, it means on your back with your legs spread, you might want to try it. There is a great book called, "Take Your Eye Off the Ball", give it a try.
You can ask for Simms all you want..... But in the Real world, Simms is fighting for a spot on the team, let alone being the starting QB.
Everyone is drinking the coolaid again. Watch the tapes and don't let you passion cloud your judgement. I am a football fan and study football, you call yourselves Jet fans because you blindly believe everything they tell you. Last year on draft day I stated Glennon would do way better than Smith, and Glennon was the 21st rated QB last year when Smith was the 40th rated starter last year which is a true feat since there are only 32 teams. Three rookie QBs out performed Smith last year, but you don't want to hear or believe it. You can't handle the truth!
