I dont really blame Sanchez for the way the 2nd half played out in Indy in 09. Guys got hurt. Manning got good. The magic just faded.
I never really understood what the big deal was about Sanchez being in w/ the 2's. If it was a true competition..and frankly at that time it really was..shouldn't both QB's spend time w/ the 1st AND 2nd team for equal opportunity as well as evaluation purposes? The injury was unfortunate but what did people want? Keep the 1st OL in the whole game? God forbid Mangold or Brick or one of the other starters goes down facing camp fodders. Same applies w/ people bitching about Vick. What do you want? If he's the back-up QB it's his JOB to play the majority of his snaps w/ the 2nd teamers. Yes he'll get a drive or 2 w/ the first unit but this is a complete non story & nothing to stir up panic about.
The Jets offense scoring 0 points in the 2nd half had nothing to do with the Jets lost that game against IND? It stinks because the Jets defense needed to lean on their offense or special teams and they couldn't come through. That was really the difference. You rarely win a SB by leading the way with the defense, you need timely plays from other players and units. While the defense is an easy target, the Jets offense forgot to show up to the championship games too.
Does anyone get the feeling that no matter how far into the future we go, the name Sanchez will always elicit this kinda of polarization...? Regarding Vick and the 2's.. I doubt if Rex has him on the field more than a few sets and after that, its the Matt Simms show. I'd like to think lessons were learned from last year.
Feely missed a FG, did he not? And not for nothing if Feely makes those 2 FGs the Jets offense puts up nearly as much points as the Saints offense did to win the Super Bowl. We lost that game on defense and special teams, period.
Yeah, if you can't definitely rule on a QB one way or another, it leaves that split. Alex Smith is a good example. Jake Delhomme kind of. Jay Cutler in general. See the thing is the Saints team, including their offense, limited the game. They kept the Colts to 8 possessions total! The Saints scored 24 points on 8 possessions! The Jets scored 17 on 11. If Feely makes both it's 23 on 11. If the Jets matched the Saints efficiency offensively, they would have scored 33 points. Here's the thing, you can't leave out the offense from the blame game when they only score 17 and 0 second half points. You gotta do more. Down 3 with 8 minutes left in 3rd Q, Jets punt. Colts punt. Down 3 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd Q, Jets punt. Colts scored TD. Down 10 with 9 minutes left in the 4th Q, Jets punt. Offense can be and should be blamed along with the defense and special teams. The Jets had a talented team, but they didn't make plays at key times, all 3 units. Happened again the next year too, just didn't get the execution/breaks/luck/whatever you want to call it they needed.
All of Sanchez's trolls and haters always try to downplay his success and up-play his failures. It was his fault when we lost, and was never the reason when we won. Its ok though, one day all of the trolls and haters will be regretting pushing this guy out the door since day one.
And wait a second, this works both ways dude. I dont recall the Saints defense giving up a drive as quickly as the Jets did before the half. And are you going to blame Mark Sanchez for the Jets not being aggressive before halftime (after Peyton shredded the defense)? If Brees had the Jets defense in the Super Bowl, his teams losing. Because the Jets defense didn't get a pick 6, the Jets defense didn't not get shredded. Brees had the luxury of his defense holding him in the game, GETTING a pick 6 and his special teams getting an onside kick, AND the Colts missing a FG.
How does it work both ways? I just blamed the Jets offense, defense, and special teams. You aren't winning many games by giving up 30 points, missing field goals, and scoring 0 points in a half. It all contributed to the Jets losing.
Again, if Feely makes that FG we score in the 2nd half, we take a 7 point lead. Instead Manning has short field and scores a touchdown. Just stop with the nonsense, if you give Sanchez those 2 FGs AND a pick 6, the Jets run away with the game. If you take away 2 of the Saints FG's AND the Porters pick 6, the Saints dont win. THE END. I dont give a shit about stats, I dont give a shit about possessions, etc. Everyone around Brees did everything in their best effort to win the game, from special teams recoving the onside kick/Colts missing a FG, to Tracy Porter getting a pick 6, to the Saints defense holding Peyton to 7 points after they were up 10-0 like 5 minutes into the game.
In a quarterback competition, you want your starting QB to determined because he looked better than the other guy, not because he looked less bad. Mark's first pass of the preseason was picked by a rookie D-lineman. In the 2nd game, he threw an interception in the endzone; then at the end of the half, he scrambled around and let the clock run out instead of throwing the ball away and taking the field goal. Rex wanted somebody to WIN the job, not for somebody to lose and the other to start by default. In about 3 quarters worth of play, he committed 2 bad turnovers and made a horrific mental mistake, and directly took 10 points off of the scoreboard and gave 7 to the other team. That's a 17 point swing from your qb in less than a game. He was still making mistakes that a 5th year guy can't make. He couldn't still be the reason that the Jets lost games, and you can't have your quarterback giving up 17 points, that's ridiculous. Hence, he hadn't won the competition.

Well unfortunately for his haters and trolls, Sanchez represents the most succesful period the Jets have had over the last four decades so until this franchise surpasses what he did, his name will not be going anywhere.
Ive only been a Jet fan since 2004, so for me this whole period has't been that bad. (4 playoff appearances, 5 playoff wins, 2 AFC Championship games over the past 10 years for me).

it's called reality. he was near flawless at Cincy and was outstanding at SD. He didn't have one bad postseason game. he and the O gave the jets D a double digit lead in the 2009 title game, the D blew it. In the 2010 title game after he brought the team back from 24-0 down the D blew it again. regardless of all this I just hope Geno is ready to step up. Mark unfortunately is in the past, time to look forward.
