Before people accuse me of spinning this, here are actual quotes and descriptions from the articles at the time.

Funny how people selectively remember things. Ryan dodges the question each time it came up.

Please show me any quote in context where where Rex said that he put Sanchez in to win that game.

If Rex doesn't put Mark in that game then he doesn't get hurt. By not getting hurt Mark is our starting QB in this year's training camp. On the upside though we would have drafted Clowney.

if he doesn't put him in the game mark is our starter last year, we make the playoffs. the only downside is we would have a little less cap room.

Whatever the reasons, this team was going nowhere with Sanchez under center.

the reasons are we had little talent. when he had talent around him we won and we were more talented last year than 2 years ago, better QB play and we could have won another game or 2 and Mark at his worst in 2012 was better than geno 2013.

    some of Mark's weapons 2011-2012:

LT- out of football the next season
Plax-out of football the next season
Mason- out of football the next season
Cumberland- as a raw, not ready player
    Keller-hurt most of '12
    Holmes- hurt most of '12
    Patrick Turner
    Matthew Mulligan
    Chaz Schilens
    Mardy Golyard
    Clyde Gates
    Konrad Reuland
    rookie Stephen Hill

That's why we were going nowhere. When he had Holmes/Edwards/Cotch/keller, etc... he helped us reach 2 title games.

    it's called reality.

Geno played as well last year as Sanchez would've played. And that's not good enough when comparing a rookie to a 5 year vet.

The last bit of regular season football that Mark Sanchez played for us was some all time bad football.

He didn't deserve a shot to win the QB competition last year. And that's why he's not in one right now.

Great teammate. Seemed like a good person. Horrible QB more times than not.

I thought this was what Rex always said, guess I was wrong.

If having no talent was the reason Sanchez stunk in 2012, well he would have stunk again in 2013 because the talent was still bad.

What a POS Sanchez is, still harboring resentment over Rex destroying the end of his Jet career.

Oh wait, still the classy guy he's always been.

FIRST person to text after Seth Ryan hurt his shoulder.

Sanchez first to text Rex after son's injury

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Soon after the news broke that his son had suffered a broken collarbone on Monday in a practice with the Clemson football team, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan got a text message from one of his former players -- the first text he received after the injury.

It came from Mark Sanchez, who was looking for Seth Ryan's cell number.

SanchezIt was a classy move by Sanchez, who was released by the New York Jets last March after five seasons in New York. Sanchez and Ryan's son became friends a few years back, when Seth played for Summit High School in New Jersey. In fact, Sanchez attended some of his games. Seth became a walk-on wide receiver at Clemson and now is a redshirt freshman.

Rex Ryan was touched by Sanchez's gesture, mentioning it to reporters on Tuesday after his daily news conference at training camp. There has been a lot of speculation about the Ryan-Sanchez relationship, even since Sanchez suffered a season-ending shoulder injury last preseason. Ryan received a lot of criticism for inserting Sanchez in the fourth quarter of the third game, behind a backup offensive line. It proved disastrous, as Sanchez required surgery to repair his labrum. Apparently, the coach and his former quarterback remain on solid ground.

Sanchez was Ryan's first draft pick, back in 2009, and together they reached the AFC championship game in 2009 and 2010. Their relationship made headlines in January 2013 when it was revealed that Ryan has a tattoo on his right arm that includes a likeness of a Sanchez No. 6 jersey.

Yeah a terrible QB doesnt go into the postseason and put up a 94.3 passer rating over a span of 6 games. You can blame Sanchez all you want but if the other 52 guys on the roster had played as well as Sanchez did the Jets would have been in the Super Bowl at least one of those years, if not both.

The reality is Sanchez was being paid too much money for his play in '11 & '12.

Who knows...he's 2nd on the Philly depth chart. If Foles can't play, Sanchez can prove us all wrong.

Sanchez was great against New England..great at the end of the Indy game in 2010. But where else was he good? He was average in Cincy and below average in San Diego.

The Jets D played balls out for the first 10 quarters on the 2009 playoffs. Sanchez did enough to not lose those games. When the D failed in the 2nd half against the Colts the offense wasnt able to pick them up and get us to a Superbowl.

If Sanchez played every game like he played in New England in 2010 he would still be our QB.

He was mediocre vs the Jaguars honestly.

13/23 169 yds 1 TD 1 INT vs a pretty mediocre defense, almost had another pick and he was playing well into the 3rd that game.

Geno had an injury pre Giants game, Mark did not which is why Sanchez cut the margin if at all for their battle.

No. It was the teams fault. I'll give Sanchez credit for the win in New England because he played like an elite QB in that game. But even still the defense was great and Brady couldn't do anything. Just like they were in Cincy, San Diego and Indy in 2010 and half of 2009.

Countless times the Jets D picked him up during his time here. But Sanchez defenders will only talk about the times where the defense failed the team.

See my whole point is, people blame Sanchez for not reaching the Super Bowl, but the fact is, if the team played as well as Sanchez played in the 09 Championship game we would have made the Super Bowl. Did the Defense carry Sanchez to the championship game? Yes, but when he decided to play out of his mind as a rookie QB in a huge spot, the defense, and special teams decided to take the day off. That vaunted defense got ripped to shreds yet the Saints and Ravens defense who were not anywhere as good both pick Peyton off and held him to under 20.....
