This is exactly what I said last season also. Mark Sanchez did NOT do enough to win the job over a rookie that can't play under center.

outside of the pass to Ansah mark looked really good in preseason actually, he clearly won the job IF there was a competition. There wasn't.

had Geno not gotten hurt in Detroit he would have seen more and more snaps.

Even Rex knows he's laying on a layer of bullshit. Too funny folks eating it up.

They were splitting the reps 50/50 before that Lions game. There's nothing that tells me that wouldn't have continued had Geno stayed healthy.

if Geno doesn't get hurt he would have started taking reps away. they had their out w/ the bad TO in the Det game.

I appreciate what Sanchez did. He frustrated me a ton, but he also brought me the best times I've ever seen as a Jet fan. I think I would cheer him if I were at the preseason game. He was put in a terrible situation receiver wise year after year, and he never complained. He would have made a fantastic Jet if he were just a little bit better at football.

I think getting into a giant Sanchez debate is silly, though. He's no longer a Jet and he isnt going to play this year. The argument wont accomplish anything IMO.

Some people dont realize who is running the Jets, its Idzik. You think Rex wants Geno over Vick? heck no. But Idzik is pushing Geno, alas Rex's job is safe no matter what happens this year imo.

I never really saw the big deal with that whole scenario anyway. Sanchez got hurt, but he could've gotten hurt just as easily playing with the 1's. I'm not going to blame Rex Ryan or Idzik or anyone really for something that could happen on any given play in football. I don't think Rex needs to provide clarification...

You don't know that. I can only go by what they were doing up to that point.

How exactly did Rex change his 'story'? This thread title is tabloid enough to qualify as a NYDN article.
Sanchez had not been named a starter. Geno had not been named one either, but it was clear to me which direction they wanted to go in.

There is nothing to learn from last year. Vick will play this preseason, and see time with our second unit.
He is older, injury prone, and already somewhat experienced in the system, so i don't expect a heavy snap count. But he does need preseason work, as all QB's do, and he will play.

Yah, he looked just great running around within field goal range as time expired.

The folks having the discussion. If no one cared, no one would talk about it.

Kind of like the Badminton Forum. Crickets.

Sanchez wasn't "competing" against Smith last year....he was "competing" against his 3rd & 4th year as a Jet.

And it looks like a fresh start in Philly is working out for him so far.

Straight up Sanchez shouldn't have been on the team last year. His time here was done. But because of Tanny's stupidity it put everyone in a horrible position, Sanchez included.

Everyone deserves a little blame. The team for creating a competition when it was about as open as the one between Sanchez and Clemmons in 2009. Rex for thinking Sanchez could show anything in that position to put pressure on Geno. The media for putting Sanchez's resume over his skill set to make people think he shouldn't have been in there. Even Sanchez deserves some blame cause if he had shown something more in previous seasons he wouldn't have been in that position.

People forget Geno won the competition without even throwing a pass. As soon as Sanchez got pick 6'd in the first preseason game in Detroit it was over.

I agree. The stupidity of last off season was that Sanchez was already on the way out. Focus on his injury is beside the point. The Jets should have had a solid vet Qb instead of him. Who that should have been can be debated at length, but the Jets entered last season under very bad circumstances at the Qb position. I think it hurt Smith's development, among other effects.

Blaming Tanny was all well and good, and he deserved the blame. But his contract at that point was a sunk cost. Sanchez's injury saved us all the spectacle of him playing with more than one foot out the door.

Yes yes yes the cap was a situation that affected it. Still the situation made no sense.

Why not bump one of the 600 Sanchez sucks threads instead of starting a new debate about a very old topic.

I don't remember Rex ever saying that the reason we put Sanchez in was to win. I remember him being quote mined like that but he did say that obviously they want to win, but he never said it was the reason for putting Sanchez in. If that happens on any other NFL team nobody is blaming the head coach or going on a crusade to attack him. There was no evidence to suggest Sanchez was going to be the starter. The only preseason game he didn't have countless mistakes in was the Jaguars game and we all know how much of a powerhouse they are lol. I said it right before AND after it happened that he hadn't yet earned the job.
